Appreciate the warm feedback guys. It's a project that we've been advocating for the longest time. Myself and couple of others carried the torch since Sven left, and for various reasons, stars aligned and we were finally able to green-light the project. While it's not a brand new game, we did put in a lot of effort and passion into this project to make DDDA the best it can be while being fiscally sound.
I can't wait to see everyone's response once the game releases next week!
Also, I noticed many people commenting on a potential sequel tied to the success of the PC port based on the recently published PC Gamer article. There's no secret agenda here really. It's just the way _any_ company works today. This is especially true for a publicly traded company that needs to invest significant amount of resources while being able to provide reasonably stable return on investment for stockholders.
So in a nutshell, there's some truth to what Matsukawa said in the interview. If the port sells well, it means fans love it and want more of it (e.g., a sequel). From a production standpoint, her team are a bunch of passionate folks and really love what they do, so naturally they do talk 'what-if's' and share ideas about a potential sequel amongst themselves. They're content creators and think about DD fans and what they want in terms of the future of the franchise.
From a business perspective (that's my area, *ahem*), we review sales results, forecast where we land with the project, and discuss amongst senior management and production heads to determine where to invest next.
From a DD fan perspective, we just hope you simply buy DDDA and really enjoy it for what it is. Don't think "I need to invest in this port for a potential sequel." That's no fun. This is a video game. You're mean to play it and have fun along with the passionate DD community.
All you need to do is make friends, trade pawns, post awesome screenshots, share epic stories from your adventures and really ...just have fun with the game. It'll organically create buzz and strong word of mouth if enough people do just that.
See you all soon on the other side of the Rift.
