I managed to kill the big monster in the mine solo using spear and bleed skill. That was pretty fun and combat is way better than i expected
Congrats! What was the monster, was it that cave troll? At what level?
Btw, I do agree that the spear's second, charged attack is enjoyable tactics. For a "slow weapon" it's actually surprisingly fast and easy to pull off after a bit of a training.

How much dialogue does it have? Do you have to go through long dialogues or is it more to the point?

Finished the game. Pretty good. 44 hours total for a 100% completionist playthrough (I don't think there was a single enemy NPC left on the map by the time the game ended). Combat was alright (nothing too difficult, but then again, neither was Gothic), writing was fine, story rather boring (can't say I felt invested into any of it, or that I particularly cared about either faction nor any of the characters), but above all, I enjoyed the exploration, and the progression of the character (you really felt each stat increase and gear upgrade, as is right in a Gothic game). Game economy was a mixed bag – on one hand, everything was outrageously expensive so gold inflation wasn't really an issue, on the other, I found there was almost never anything worth buying.

Was disappointed that the changes between chapters were mostly just perfunctory. Almost no added mobs save for quest-related ones (in fact, the only non-quest added were ALWAYS placed on the roads, and always consisted of one or two enemies). Similarly, effects of player's actions (save for the main quest) were also rather minimal. Overall, I spent the first 35 hours in the first chapter, lawnmoving the map, and the remaining 9 just speeding through the main quest and the handful of side-quests thrown there, as the map was essentially completely empty by then.

Overall, it was a fine game and provided that Gothic fix that so few games do, but didn't really manage to innovate on the concept. :4/5:

Sounds exactly like a description of Gothic 1.

I started playing, stole some weapon from a bandit camp, and of course I cannot put it in my hands because my level (of some skill) is too low.

That's not my favorite Gothic part.

Game is just protecting you from hurting yourself. For example if someone gave you nunchaks right now to attack someone, you would hurt yourself more than whoever you wanted to hurt

Should I save animal trophies for some specialized trader, or can I sell them anywhere for the same amount?
Weapons, armor, trinkets, etc. too?

You can't kill any non-hostile enemies (i.e. sellers), the combat is shit (I really don't get what you see in this arcade turd, Gothic combat was 1000x better), dialog choices are completely fake modern Bioware style and dialogs themselves are rather boring...

I'm not saying it's a terrible game, but I don't get the hype on 'dex. It has decent enough exploration and skill system is based on Gothic... that's it?

I suck at the combat in this game but I knew that was going to be the case going in. I think I've played about 2 hours or so and I am enjoying it.

"Arcade" is a compliment in comparison to Gothic, which has really godawful combat. I say this as someone who has around 1,400 hours in Gothic and its sequel if we add up all the total conversion mods I've played.

Yea this is definitely a step down compared to gothic. Too many unkillable enemies and the like.

Ex: wanted to go back into the pit after joining Nematon but the guard stops you in dialogue. You can take out your weapon and start swinging but they aren't even an entity in the world.

Still pretty good though, in such a slow year it's up there for one of the better games.

You have really fucked up if you haven't done Missing by now. Anyway, you get into that temple by going around the back of the building west-northwest of where you're standing in these shots.

I enjoyed Gothic (including combat), but how was Gothic's combat "1000x better" by comparison?
Maybe not 1000x better, but a lot better for sure.

Drova has too much running around (for both the player and enemies), and has HP bloat where you need to hit enemy dozens of times (but otherwise it's not a diffucult encounter, just time wasting).

I agree with BosanskiSeljak , it's far from Gothic's greatness, it's inferior to Risen even, but it does has that Risen atmosphere and is overall a decent game. At least so far, I only played it for a few hours.

That's not entirely true. If it takes you dozens of swings to take out an enemy, it means you may not have sufficient stats or gear. Much like in Gothic you can kill an orc even at a very low level if you engage in a 20 minute fight where you dodge all his moves. If you come by later you can kill him in two hits, and that's the case in Drova too. At the end of the game, I think the toughest enemies I could meet could only last about 10 swings, and anything below them died if I so much as looked at it.

I thought myself that I should do the same. w00h0, just killed a Cave Troll on 6th level using the same technique. At the seventh attempt. Phew, what a tense fight. A fun one too!
