The downgrade is real but the real problem is the story.

So what's the issue with the story?

I watched Ellajaz playing it and the story is almost non-existent. The dialogues are bad but not in a funny way.

One Steam reviewer puts it better than me:

The story is extremely dull with continued exposition and lampshading that just reek of poor writing experience. The voice acting for the majority of the NPCs is extremely comical, with lousy exaggerations of American accents done by people who clearly aren't that. Harran had a pretty consistent cast of voice actors, if not in quality, in terms of the accents themselves given its middle-east/slavic setting. I don't know if there is an in-universe explanation as to this yet, but regardless, I just find hearing guys who sound like Solid Snake and Pvt. Pyle giving anime dubs extremely off-putting. This compounded with the dreadful dialogue makes the NPCs a headache, and the main villain is a bright example of this. Our introduction is him going into a monologue about his father and a farm as he's about to execute a nameless NPC we knew for 3 minutes. This is meant to be played as a completely serious dramatic moment, funny enough. It doesn't have the charm that the first game did, it's just downright incoherently insufferable at times. The first game's writing was laughably entertaining in its mediocrity, but this just makes you frustratingly bored.

Then again, maybe good writing will be wasted on a zombie dropkicking simulator anyways.

A good story elevates any game.

But I'm a bit of a storyfag, so if the story is dogshit I just can't motivate myself to play through it even if the gameplay is good.
I agree that a good story can elevate a game. However, it is also possible to have a good game without a good story too, provided its systems are well done. Frozen Synapse had a story, but it was so bland I didn't care for it at all. Instead I had a real blast with the game itself.

It is pretty jarring to see so many Americans™ in the heart of Europe.

But the gameplay is a blast. Totally one of those games where you turn off your brain and smack zombies. I spent a good amount of time at night slicing up zombies next to a UV light. Dunno if it counts as an exploit or not, but it was a pretty easy way to rack up combat exp.

Combat effects also look way better than in the first game, and the parkour combat is kind of neat. I also appreciate more human enemies too (even if they're still pretty stupid).

I cut a bandit's head off and his friend said "fuck this" and ran away. Did human enemies flee in the first game?

I think early on there's the guy that is teaching you the ropes and he says something along the lines of he's leaving because the PC is acting weird/foolish then he's just in the next room waiting. The way it is acted, it sounds like the guy is taking off as in leaving the whole place.

Then once in the city there's a woman with a horrendous southern accent.

The PC's voice you might recognize from Wasteland 3, ESO or FFVII remake.

these two companies should merge or one should buy the other, it feels like cdpr hired every good storyfag dev living in poland while techland hired everyone who can code decent gameplay systems. if they combined their efforts a good game might actually come out of it.
They could make a game about a cyberpunk dystopia where megacorporations silence people while a virus is spreading, turning normies into brain eating zombies... hummm ... where did I hear that story before?

Raytracing does provide a darker looking game plus optimized settings if anyone is interested in them.

Otherwise a regular Codex thread with autistic screeching and self-induced amnesia (oh noes, a huge game is ridden with bugs, it's not like that isn't the norm since like forever). Didn't really play anything from Techland (Gunslinger aside), but it seems that despite the expectedly underwhelming story, MCA counseling did rub off at least somewhat (actual branching between and within factions instead of differently colored scenes). The scores are probably deserved when looked objectively, but overcritical when compared to the competition (you can bet your ass on it would have received higher scores if Bethesda or BioWare released them).

Can't wait to play it as soon as the DRM gets hacked. :incline:

My review: The parkour/movement is pretty good, but not as good as the first game. It's still fun to run around jumping through buildings and killing zombies. Everything else is shit. Dialog is shit. Story is shit. Batman-vision is shit. The nighttime arbitrarily forced exploration timer is MEGAGAYshit. Visually it's good enough for me, but the textures and lighting have had an obvious downgrade compared to promo shots and gameplay videos which is likely gonna be a problem for graphics whores and even despite the downgrade it still kind of runs like shit too, which could be related to them adding SUPERMEGAFUCKINGGAYshit DRM 3 days before release.

My final score: 2 out of wait for the scurvy sailors o' mischief and adventure to crack the DRM. Then join the crew, fly the Jolly Roger and realize a few hours into playing it that you aren't having any fun and delete it from your harddrive to make space for more anime.

he doesnt say lowly gpu like 2060. He says low end gpu like a 1060 and mid range one like 2060. A 2060 was also the lowest powered RT capable gpu from nvidia until a week ago when the 3050 launched. So on the ray traced capable spectrum, the 2060 was the slowest of all

Ass Creed : ZOMBIES!

Another post apocalyptic zombie game where you are superhero doing cool shit and slaying some zombies for the lulz. Worthless.

Yeah, but I'm thinking more in the line of AAA productions, and games that are supposed to have a narrative. I do play games with minimal story, mostly arcade stuff. But regardless it's always a bonus if there is something even if it's not really needed like in say Kingdom Rush.

What is up with this? What is the lore explanation behind it? And what happens if you don't make it? Does a timer turn on as soon as it turn dark?

Everyone has corona and if you stay in the dark long you will turn into a zomboid this is why everyone sleeps with uv lamps turned on and zomboids stay in the dark during the day. Yes a timer starts but you have ways of getting additional time there are boosters that will premamently increase your time in the dark all over world so I guess they wanted people to explore more to find them.
