i don't like this "arena worlds" structure, i don't like it at all.
but the game is a masterpiece nonetheless.

Exploring a territory does anything other than maybe finding something to use/fight? Is there any benefit for having explored territories?

I'm having lots of trouble winning the first fights. I'm playing on Expert and everything outnumbers me, with better troops. Any tips?

If there are rare resource deposits, you eventually find and conquer them, potentially saving yourself thousands in gold.

Exploring a province to 100% gives +2 income from it.

Also, low explo stifles population growth and therefore your potential income.

Most importantly, you get xp. And loot. And more xp and loot.

I've started playing with the game 2 days ago, and I'm truly impressed. There are so many interesting elements in the game, which you don't see in other games. And it is challenging as hell (at least for me). Not that it is a problem, just the opposite. You have to be careful, think through every step. And the AI is very good for a TB games IMO.

But is it me, or there aren't too many interesting loot in the game? I only find basic weapons, no Sword of Kickass +1 etc. I see that there are armor sets, but when it comes to weapons, I did't find anything unique. Although I'm only in world 2. Will it change later?

I have only been playing single-player, but I've found stuff by invading the dungeons. Sometimes a merchant will come by and you can purchase something expensive from him. Also got some cool gear from burning witches at the stake.

its rpg part :) so do what you want to do.
maybe just kill them all immidiately:mad:
one tip:they have bonuses on their own shards.same as you on your own-some units, some buildings, some gold
so attack if you have no problem on neutral shards

If you follow the campaign storyline one way or another, you'll get to kill a plenty of them on your way. Depending on the path you choose, of course.

Unless you don't care about scripted storylines and are willing to burn the bridges, you might want to abstain from destroying other masters until prompted by the plot. You won't "break" the game (there is always a total conquest, after all), but you might drive one or more subplot into a dead end by premature killing of a master.

(yep, it's an rpg part... if you routinely slaughter all npcs, you won't be particularly surprised there are suddenly no quests left for you to do :) )

Well, you must be about 10% in or so :smug:

Masters are primary plot devices of campaign storylines, if you've met all 16, the end is near.

you for real? That is very bad news, i played this for hours and hours : S.
I see the need to reduce campaign now that is being implemented in new version

I've burned out about 15 shards in, myself. Met like 4 or 5 masters, so I can't vouch for anything.

If I read campdiff.var right, there is a turn limit ranging from 90 moves at novice all the way to 55 at overlord. Which might mean it's unlikely there could be more than 50 shards to conquer, tops.

no big deal for the game like this.campaign is the ony a series of random maps.one man is not enough to manually create and script maps.the game has multiplayer basis itself(fucking google translate) and you know what is the original idea?online astral.

dont waste energy for something stupid like gold reserve.best investment are units, healer and moreover fairy,as the best healer.
i have been using fairy as support for warrior and it is pretty effective : ). Hence why i am low on astral energy.

I see, but there is also some coherence, you get progressively stronger opponents. Mine are on expert atm( i play on competent), so i am guessing by the end they will be overlord masters etc. Which i like as prospect.

Well my curent situation is I'm on shard where everyone is too powerful in ring 2, everyone with exception of orcs, and halflings, hates me. I had 5 rebellions in home province, and I permuted chaos gate in a neighbouring province. And yes that mercenary reduced my income pretty low.

Try negotiating with the outer territories if they are too powerful. Also, take your hero into dungeons and build him up. A strong, well-geared warrior with a bunch of rabble backing him up can take on a lot.

Speaking of which, gentlemen, when you encounter text that is cut or doesn't fit a window, please drop me a note.

OK, will do. AFAIR every single key of truth and the 'got all the keys' ending itself got mangled somewhere (that is: the text is too long and gets cut, some of which can be later read properly in a journal), but that's all I can say without getting all of these again. I'm rerunning the campaign now, but I probably won't be going for the keys this time.

There's always an option of plundering these haters, it helps getting through that pesky no income phase if you don't have any good sites ready and don't want to waste turns on exploration. And since the buggers already hate you, you won't lose much in the process.
Speaking about the second ring critters, more likely than not they're not too powerful (or are they? What exactly are you having problems with? On which difficulty level? What team are you running?). Try a couple of different approaches to each fight, use terrain (and if the setup is hopeless, you may be able to try a different one - the map a battle uses is tied to a hex from which you go to it), micro like crazy, maybe change your unit composition. If all of that fails, you may as well do a kamikaze run, resurrect your hero and finish off weakened guards. Costs you time and money and in most cases is not the optimal thing to do, but it works.

Well they wiped me out on that shard. They had one dark knight and one general. I should break that siege and resupply.

Could someone tell me how many shards are in the campaign in total?

That depends on storyline. Simply expect a lot, and don't smartass in diplomacy as one above posters.

Just wondering was the original game commercial success? What about the English version?
