but fuck right off. we're so close now

Is that Christina Hendricks? There's something about her giant boobs that's attractive as hell.

Also, is Elden Ring coming out with multiplayer on, or is From shutting all that down until they resolve the RCE issue?
As far as I am aware they haven't said anything specifically about it, but on the other hand it doesn't seem like type of thing you'd go out of your way to announce as a developer/publisher either. If they fix it in Elden Ring it'll probably just be included in the day 1 patch as a 'improved network stability' footnote in the patch notes or something else that won't draw too much attention.

Sad to say that since this is coming out first, it's getting played through before ELEX II for me. It's a tough decision, but I guess a few weeks of possible patches for ELEX II won't be such a bad thing. Plus I got a solid PB fix off 90 hours of Archolos.

Cannot fucking wait to play this.

It depend on how buggy this or elex is. I remember elex 1 was relatively stable on release and dark souls 3 had some problems, but sekiro released in a pretty well polished state too.

I don't remember Dark Souls 3 having any problems on release... Maybe you're thinking Bloodborne with the atrocious load times and framerate drops?

I wonder how badly that multiplayer exploit will fuck over Elden Ring's launch.
They took down the DS3 servers so they must at least be aware of its existence at this point, so it's possible that they're working on fixing it for the inevitable day 1 patch.
On the other hand there's also a chance that the entire thing is blown out of proportion. It's apparently not a recent discovery at all; the entry at https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2021-34170 is almost 8 months old and in the attached Reddit thread it's stated that the OP has tried to alert FROM about it 'a year or two ago' at the time. If that's the case then the exploit has been known of for a very long time, but only gotten traction in the past week when someone (apparently the same person?) used it on streamers to raise awareness of what one potentially could do with it.

If ER really is as copypasted from DS3 as some people have made it out to be I'd be more concerned about what average Joes and regular script kiddies can do with Cheat Engine on day 1 tbh. Would be unfortunate to have your save ruined on launch because of it.

First run is always a singleplayer/offline run for me anyways so I don't constantly get hit with Large Chest Ahead messages. Hopefully by the time I get around to pvp they'll have fixed the issue.

Playing online when it's new is about the only time you can be reasonably assured of getting even footing PvP where most people are still figuring everything out and aren't griefing or hacking. In this case, the beta and streamers, etc. has messed with that dynamic a bit but it should still mostly be true.

Agree with you there, but that inevitably leads me to building a PvP char and it kind of ruins the exploration and new-ness of the singleplayer experience. For me, RPGs and multiplayer experiences clash because they're wildly different. From games are all about the excitement of discovery, the subtle effects of environmental worldbuilding and slow, cautious combat. Whereas PvP is usually some variation of a cheese strat, backstabs and magic spam.

I get this. It depends on my mood, but generally I appreciate PvP as adding to the unknown, unpredictable elements of the world and adding some excitement. At least it does when they're not cheating/griefing douchebags.

I've never seriously gotten into the PvP aspect of these games. It can be an interesting element when you're going through a difficult area, and then have to deal with some antagonistic spirit in the midst of it. Honestly generally find it annoying, but almost appreciate it for that very reason. Just another layer of hostility the world throws at you.

I can't imagine just waiting around in an area to duel or grief in these games though.

I generally agree with this but I have two great memories from DS2.

The first was getting griefed in the pre-nerf Shrine of Amana where this dickhead kept chain invading and killing me. The thing was that I knew the area down, so on like the 8th time the bastard invaded me I just started running and rolling into all the mobs, the sorceresses with the tracking magic arrows, etc. Once I was sure he was surrounded, I popped a seed of the tree of giants. He died shortly after and mysteriously I stopped being invaded.

The other one was at a point where I just didn't want to deal with it so I went to the middle of a bunch of crates and cast chameleon and waited for the guy to either find me or leave. Eventually he finally had the idea to start rolling through the crates, so once he was committed and going to end his roll right next to me I cast chaos firestorm. You could basically see the expression of terror and "oh nooooo" scream as he couldn't change his trajectory and got one shotted.

I had a good laugh after both of those and had to take a minute before I was able to keep going.

Once the game gets settled, people will have places set up for PvP. It doesn't usually take that long, depending on your soul level and player pop.

Fromsoft games have an interesting multiplayer in it's variety. I've run the gamut of everything from hyper-polite duels, hackers, people running gank squads, OP builds, three-sided free-for-alls, etc.

There's nothing quite as thrilling as winning a 4v1 by using the environment and hostile mobs to your advantage. Especially if you have a spell that turns you into a prop and you slowly stalk them. The most predator-esque experience I've had in a game, outside of the dedicated asymmetric horror genre.

Yeah, now that you mention it, if I was going into a subsequent playthrough with the express intention of fighting other players, I might discover a lot more fun than I had thought possible. I've just never really framed these games that way in my mind. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot someday.
