Also, why the fuck is the game hiking up the required items to get more flask uses?

I found a teleporter in a random corner of the Limgrave that took me to the butt-end of the world map next to some targetable creature the size of a house. Found some more shit with an item I found earlier, so the teleport is not just lol-random, it has a purpose. Then I found an extra golden seed for the flask, and now it tells me that I need MORE to upgrade to another flask use...

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
The game also literally gives you a big glowing arrow towards the next story critical boss fight.

I guess wow has worn his brain smooth.

I had 7 +3 flask charges before I did Margit for the first time. There are golden seeds and sacred tears hidden everywhere.

I love how the game encourages me to take notes.
About the side quests, bosses I still have to fight, about places where to find special crafting materials or the names of characters (to understand the lore/main story). Collecting this information is also some kind of progression, some of it even shared through multiple playthroughs.

Remember back in the days when RPG manuals had empty pages for notes?

Margit is a cheating HP sponge, but that fucking bear clawing tree bark near the East Limgrave map had me genuinely horrified. Fuck.

That shit just has me worried a bit. How spongy are later bosses gonna be?

After I took that teleporter to that far-off edge of the map, I found some pygmies with spears and I needed about 10-12 hits with 20 STR, 20 DEX and a +7 spear to kill one. If weapons don't cap at 10, this might be fine, but otherwise, good grief... And the enemy was just a common mook in that area, I saw half a dozen more scattered about.

Weapons cap at +25. The scope of this game is huge, you really can't analyze it using standard souls metrics.

I found upgrade material that made me wtf.
For upgrading to +18. And that may even not the max upgrade.
So it could be that in some cases bosses aren't too spongy, but you are too low equipped.

I read he skipped all dialog/didn't talked to any NPCs that tell you about the story and what to do next.
I'm in the same boat. I am all over the place within the game, but it does mean I explore all manner of places even when they are well above my level. You can obtain power through hitting your low level ass against a high level area and find goodies.

I have just come back to the main story, I finished Rodhan and I need to find some gemstone to open up forcefield to access a city. Can't find the fucking thing despite emptying the map of places.

They might seem spongy for now, but remember the previous games had level 1 completions due to people finding ways to combine items, weapons and equipment in order to do stupidly high damage to bosses. I have a feeling we will see this here as well but people don't currently know where anything is and how things work. For instance any attack from a boss or enemy that hits low (including spells) can be jumped over and then you can punish the boss, as I learned against Rhodan. This introduces combat that is more dynamic as you can dance around and retaliate against enemies while dodging their attacks.

I can not wait to see videos in 3 to 6 months time when people have a suitable mastery of the game.

I am now learning about powerstancing. I remember this from DS2, but not sure how it works in ER.

If you cleared the area you should have found a map that tells you where to find a glintstone key. It's in the "Info" section of the inventory.

Thanks. I do remember having a bunch of shit in my inventory. I should probably look more closely at those things.

So, does anyone know what these little obelisk pillars are? I see them everywhere - in the world, in boss arenas, in seemingly semi-random locations...

Can't seem to interact with them or activate them yet.

Ok I started playing this today and I'm having my share of fun.
Started collecting some woodsticks like there was no tomorrow, then I stumbled upon a random cave, which made me panic roll all over the place.
Took some footage.

Reddit thinks those pillars denote areas where you can summon spirits to help. I thought about that too, so it's likely.

I'm going to do ALL THE SIDECONTENT and overlevel myself to kingdom come, because fuck me, Margit is harder than most DS bosses already.
I probably should do that. Int builds are pretty starved for levels and I've been one hit too many times to count, even with 22 vigor.

Sorcery seems garbage in this game honestly. Even with the talisman that boosts sorcery damage. It's totally broken when you can kite enemies with your horse though, maybe that's why they nerfed it for this game.

At least the sweet release of killing overhwelming foes is still there - fucker had three types of grabs that are one hit kill on 30 vigor.

BiSuA8P.jpg

With that said.. three grabs? and one that is a teleports-behind-you-nothing-personal-kid level. I despise the open world structure, but they didn't fuck around with the bosses.
The talk about casualisation didn't end up true, I can't imagine a newcomer to From enjoying this.

The difficulty really ramps up in the midgame jesus christ. Some of the later bosses are insane.

The irony is, I did Margit in two attempts and Godrick on my first, but I died a ton of times to the grafted scion style miniboss near the rampart tower grace point and everyone says that the miniboss is super easy.

I guess everyone has slightly different playstyles which make some things harder/easier.

I have a pure dex build, I think my dex was around 37 or 38 but I know I stopped upgrading my vigor around 30 to get more damage from my wet noodle first, it's still so unforgiving I can't imagine what it's like to play a caster, I mean, it seems it has the same stats requirements as Dark Souls 3 for magic to do serious damage, I've seen looted gear require 60 INT, which was also the sweet spot for damage scaling in DS3.

I see magic as something to toy around with in NG+ but starting with it is asking for it.
