So I guess multiplayer in ER was popular enough to prompt this. I have no feelings on it either way, I'm not even interested in more of regular Elden Ring. Still have zero wish to even play the DLC.

It's going to be interesting to see how their netcode improves. Invasions weren't exactly known for being the most reliable experience.

This has really tarnished my respect for the studio
If you have any respect for FromSoft after Dark Souls 3 (i'm being generous) I have to question your mental health.
If you think that Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Deracine and Elden Ring were bad, I don't think you ever had respect for them in the first place
Sekiro wasn't bad. Dark Souls 2, 3 & Elden Ring absolutely were though.

Already making garbage like this, I can't wait to see what sort of slop From will turn into once they get bought by Sony (indirectly -- I know Sony is aiming for something more than a video game company in buying Kadokawa).

The description of the game reminds me a lot of Prey Mooncrash in certain ways. Are there people looking to replay the same shit over and over with ER mechanics?

Already? It's been a while since From Software kept milking Dark Souls over and over again. This is just the rightful continuation. ER is a barely modified Dark Souls with jumps and an open world. Their only different game is Bloodborne.

I'm not really feeling it.

At first I thought it was going to be a surprise expansion for Elden Ring due to the game's success and lingering mysteries. Then I thought it might even be a sequel or prequel.

I can't see myself playing it.

If that's what they were going for I think they would've had more success with a new 'regular' Souls/ER game with an optional (functional) 100% co-op mode ie. no summoning signs, re-summoning your buddy after bosses, invasions, phantom restrictions and all the other kinds of jank associated with the games' current multiplayer
This just looks like a quick cash grab

Reception to this appears lukewarm at best among the public. Really puzzling project, given that in February Miyazaki stated in an interview that fromsoft wouldn't work on the IP for a while after the release of Shadow of the Erdtree:

Is it correct to understand that the story and world of "ELDEN RING" will end with this DLC? Or do you have any plans to create DLC or sequels in the future?

I think I said the same thing about "DARK SOULS III" in a previous interview, but basically I don't mean to say, "This is completely over." This is because I don't think there is any need to destroy the possibilities and good ideas that may arise in the future right now. However, at this point, there are no plans for additional DLC or "ELDEN RING 2." Even if it's not the complete end to the story, I think this DLC will be a big break.

So it seems it is indeed just a quick cash grab, and they only got the idea for this after SotE.

I don't think Miyazaki or From wanted to work on this, but their overlords at Kadokawa smelled an opportunity for a quick buck after the great success of Elden Ring and just made them do it. And more is to come after Sony steps in. They will push From to continue with profit growth, at the detriment of game quality, until the studio collapses.

Miyazaki was very vocal about letting other team members to work on their games and he really wanted them to succeed, he wanted to grow talents. I suppose their next major game will be a new IP, on which Miyazaki will be working (his name as a director will sell the game), and this game for a new young director is very low budget and is a spinoff on a hugely successful IP (which will sell the game). All signs are pointing to this *NOT* being a live service game, which is good. So it's bad for me as a diehard FromSoftware fan, because I have no interest in this, but it's not the end of the world — they are going to release more smaller scale games, which is a welcoming addition to their catalogue

Multiplayer is the most important part of a Souls game. Playing a Souls game offline is like not playing the game at all.

Eh what? Bloodborne is much more of a Dark Souls copy than Sekiro. Armored Core 6 is also pretty unique. And i dont give a shit give me 10 more games with Elden Ring/Sekiro/Dark Souls quality. I dont need some monster hunter roguelike multiplayer shitfest. I played every single Fromsoft title offline because i dont want to engage with other players when playing a soulslike.

The most enjoyable thing about Demon's and Dark Souls was playing them online. The risk of being invaded, not being able to pause the game, reading other players' messages, etc

Consider this story that influenced Miyazaki to add in online functionality in his games :
"Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that the idea for his rather unique take on co-op came to him while his car was stuck in the snow. In a whole heap of trouble with no idea what to do next, a group of people passing by stopped and helped Miyazaki push his car out of the snow. Once he was able to continue on, those strangers disappeared into the night and the Elden Ring director never saw them again."
The game was always meant to be played solo and only for when the occasion demanded it you would team up with strangers and keeping these occasions so rare is what makes them memorable. For the new game it's anything but that and such an obvious cash grab devoid of any subtilty or soul.
