This clearly shows that THQN has a relatively big marketing budget for the game and they really trust PB to deliver a successful sequel.

But on a serious note, this is a bit of a double edged sword. If a publisher spends this much cash he wants control over the project, and executive meddling might make this another Gothic 3.

Gothic 3 is not bad. Is just not as great as Gothic 1. And honestly, I had way more fun on G3 than any post morrowind bugthesda game. I know that I have my bias, for those who like melee, melee combat on G3 is dogshit. That said, I really wish that PB will bring tier based spell and skill progression on Elex 2.

Hopefully THQ Nordic doesn't force Piranha Bytes to drastically dumb down the game. Elex is on a whole level above your Skyrims and Witchers. The difficulty curve at the beginning of the game is so steep that it even triggered Codexers.

There is nothing wrong with a story mode for game "journalists" and casual gamers, but I want same kind of experience that I got in Elex.

Elex's difficulty is not artificial. So it's unfair to compare it to the likes of Sekiro for example. I'd go as far as to write that it's an easy game. All PB games are easy, but difficulty isn't required for a game to be enjoyable.

Doesn't look like it's close to finished... i'm very surprised they're saying its coming out in 2021. From first page:

They said in their last YouTube update that the game is completely playable and headed towards the QA phase.

That doesn't necessarily mean a 2021 release of course, but if it's 2022 it should be pretty early in the year.

Honestly, who cares? Starting off weak and having to claw your way up the food chain is one of the best parts of their games.

I really don't have high expectations for this. Maybe something like this:

1. When the SKYANIDES arrive, Jax tries to fight them. But they win the battle, and Jax is left for dead (again). Kaja nurtures him back to life, but he has grown weak...
2. Frustrated with his failure to unite the factions against the SKYANIDES, Jax goes into exile. When they launch their attack, Jax emerges from exile... but he has grown weak...
3. Retconning the ending of ELEX so that the Ice Palace collapsed on Jax when the Hybrid was defeated. Sestak recovers his body and revives it using BLACK ELEX which saps his strength. /s
   
4. Semi-retcon: Jax still had some kind of "mental power link" to the Hybrid, which weakened him when the Hybrid was defeated.
5. Nightmares & alcohol abuse like in Risen 2.

They mainly talked about meta/organisational stuff. In the end, they answered two community questions:

• Will ELEX2 be larger than ELEX?

The same world size, more focus on content now.

They think they've paced the content well and that your actions will have lots of consequences

• Will ELEX2 have new features compared to ELEX?

Yes. Apparently, there will be some features that never existed before (I guess in PB games?). They didn't mention what these are yet.

They said their marketing campaign is going to be way shorter than the one for ELEX, so we're probably getting new information soon.

This is very inclined. Elex itself is already almost too big. Adding more surface area would make it spread out too thin. Same size area, with some returning (like the penal colony in gothic 2 where only around the old camp and little bit of the valley open, the rest are barred) would be perfect.
