Is there a limit on how many can be set? One thing that drove my autism wild in the 1st was having to write down all the locked chests/safes and ore-nodes that I couldn't mine yet until my skills were high enough. If I can just plop down map markers to remember where they all are that would be nice.

No limit. At least it doesn't seem like there's one, I already put like 10 down.

So on a scale of Gothic 1 to Risen 3, how bad is it?

more data is necessary to make solid conclusions, after ~5 hours I'd put it on the better side of gothic 3 - i.e. combat is bad but explorashun is fun (i did not manage to stomach gothic 3 for more than 5 hours and i wanna continue ELEX 2)

wait wat
did I miss something in elex about Jax being born as a berserker?

unless I did, that feels like a pretty major retcon innit

nigga that's a part of the main quest lul

feels like the story was written by a designer with a grudge over clerics and berserkers being far more popular than outlaws
clerics get shit on and replaced with inverse-clerics, berserker faction as you see it ingame is led by a guy who acts like a regular outlaw leader with no way to point out how dumb it is(even when caja is with you) and most of the berserkers are former outlaws mostly acting like outlaws
albs are basically retarded and embracing EMOOOOTIONS now while living inside a cardboard box... but they defeated the clerics? somehow they both lost? ...ok.

did they purposely set out to make all the factions suck?

must not have been very important because I don't remember that at all

Your father was the one who betrayed you because he didn't want his adoption of outsiders to be found out. This didn't make much sense to me because it's not like people were born Albs and it's peculiar how apparently no other Alb ever questioned why this guy suddenly had two young boys for kids if adopting and converting outsiders was such a faux pas (and did he even have a wife?).

I'm pretty sure this angle doesn't appear at all in the Germano version lol. IIRC alb dad's betrayal is a plot he sets up with Zardoz to get you on the side of the separatists and start a war against the hybrid and loyalist elexetors.

fuck, do I have to play this in Germano?

EDIT: also, any of you have an opinion on difficulty levels? Does it just turn the enemies into damage sponges, or does it change anything relevant?

In terms of content both the English and German versions are the same, the English translation is just super edgy with a TON of profanity not present in the original German version.

Fwiw on Ultra enemies are MUCH less hp-spongy than in the first game.

I laughed out loud when a guy chased me out of a building in the Berserker camp and yelled "Yeah!...That's what I fucking thought!" as I was running away.

The writing seems pretty bad in the first few hours, but at least it's funny.

I've been watching on Twitch and these conversations are just soooo hilarious! Like '.. To be honest, I don't have a frigging clue...', 'Fuck me son hahahah...' etc etc:bounce:

Localizers changing the story, FFS. :argh:

Yeah, one of the biggest changes actually had to do with Duras.

In the German version, he killed the Paladin dude in cold blood and admitted to using to you to further his ambitions. In the English version, he admits to still using you, but he says it was self defense and the information you get on the Paladin dude seems to back this up

It's an interesting change. I personally have no feelings on whether it's better or worse.

and people told me i was wrong when i said the germano version was the only true ELEX

Anyway, speaking of shitty writung, I am upset about the tardo alignment-specific dialogue options. They are uninteresting, stupidly written and completely without nuance. I mean come on, you always get 3 options and they are always:

1. :despair: can't we all just get along

2. :neveraskedforthis: hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

3. :evilcodex: MAIM! KILL! BURN! MAIM! KILL! BURN!

ELEX 1 handled this infinite times better, even if the total asshole options under #3 can sometimes be funny (like telling Caja you pissed off into the wilderness because you couldn't put up with her whining anymore).

Melee is for tools, join whichever faction gives you a lazor gun.
I'd probably do that in this game as well mainly because the melee combat was completely trash in the first game. Most likely the situation has remained unchanged in the sequel.

Albs are the coolest faction so far, but I like the Morkon robots outside the Grotto.
