it also seems to have indirectly affected the HDR mole people effect

Sorry if it's a bother, but can I ask what the specific values were? I edited every shadow and shader value that I could find, and tried it ingame too, and that effect is still present. Would love to get rid of it if possible.

Shadow quality and shader level, set both to minimum. I think I also put SSAO down to lowest maybe that has an effect too.

Mind you the mole people effect is still there, but I think it's less prominent. When playing this first I was noticing it all the time as I was panning the camera around, now it doesn't seem to happen all that much at least outdoors, indoors it's still the same.

Oh, thanks a lot! Didn't fiddle with the SSAO until now, and it's a noticeable improvement after turning it down.

looking at this map again
ELEX1-ELEX2-map-comparison.webp
What did they spend all that time on, exactly?
Yeah, I know the areas aren't 1:1 copies from ELEX and are altered, but the basic geometry was already there for half(again, remember, a large chunk of the ELEX 2 map is out-of-bounds area) the available map. World lore and faction backstories already written, etc.,

For reference as to how much is out of bounds, the entirety of east edan area(bottom middle-left) on that map is out of bounds. The furthest you can go is the factory area which has... nothing. I explored the entire thing, not even a single enemy after you start going up. Nothing to loot either. Once you're at the top and try to enter east edan you start taking poison(?) damage or something as a hint to turn back. This has been my experience so far with most of the areas 'near' the edge of the map.

They made the entirety of ELEX from scratch in way less time.

It's like when Darth Roxor made like using the word 'jank' to describe wonky eastern european releases with a lot of weird design and rushed programming was an entirely new word made up just to hate on Elex lol. You can't criticize these games without these people believing you're doing it to spite their cult rather than simply because you don't see why a mediocre, unpolished and deeply flawed open world game is heralded like the second coming

What Darth Roxor actually said back then was that 'jank' was a retarded word that he suddenly saw popping up everywhere and which he hated, but don't let that stop you.

Yeah a word used constantly for years was "suddenly" popping up when it very naturally got used to describe the unpolishedness of a game you liked, and quite suddenly as well, you hated it :M

Just restarted Elex II today, and it was stuttering hard. While it was completely fluid just yesterday. Was starting to get angry.

Turns out I didn't connect the power adaptar of my laptop, so it was running in power saving mode. :lol:

Stupid me.

That is very lazy lol,quite the decline.
Not really. The zones you revisit have changed - Tavar Desert has been taken over and terraformed by the berserkers as one example. Kind of like returning to the prison colony in Gothic 2 and seeing it in ruins and full of dragon hunters.

They've done a good job making it clear that time has passed.

Yeah, it's been great seeing the old locations after some time has passed. For example, I really like the dynamic of the old Outlaw fort being absorbed into the Berserker culture, people included, and how that's reflected in the environment and the new armor style. It makes for a unique take on a familiar faction. Fun to see some of those Outlaws from ELEX 1 willing to accept the Berserker way of life, but still struggle to shed their shit-heel ways.

Eurojank was a neogaf meme. It was used a handful of times on the Codex starting in 2015 but didn't really take off until 2018. Meanwhile the gaf had been using it since 2012 or earlier. https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/eurojank

Back in 2013-2017 I called them eurotrash which isn't ideal since that's a term that was coined to describe a particular kind of European person (but my doing so was intentional because I found it funny). :M

The word janky itself is taken from African-American slang in the 90s that tech people decided would be fun to use to describe poorly coded software https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/janky/

Fast forward 12 years and we'll be upset that Elex 2 has become abandonware because PB's publisher won't pay licensing fees for Idol's song like Alpha Protocol and Autograph.
I'm optimistic enough to believe that the reason they went with a deep cut from an album he released in 2014 is because that was inexpensive enough for a lifetime license. One of his 80s hits would have cost more. :M

btw if you want the geometry popping in crowded areas to stop AND you have excess vram, go to your data/ini/ConfigDefault.xml and find this line:
Code:
<Memory VertexAndIndexBufferCapacity="805306368" />
(805306368 = 768 MiB)
replace it with this:
Code:
<Memory VertexAndIndexBufferCapacity="1073741824" />

It should be enough to stop any popping. If you still see any, up it again.
Presumably it can also be placed in the user config file too.

"i didn't say it was an entirely new word for describing unpolished, barely working eastern european rpgs, i just said i had never noticed it being used to describe unpolished, barely working eastern european rpgs"

I thought this game would be popular on the codex but its the same 5 people talking about it here in this thread.
I think a lot of people are playing elden ring right now, so the only people playing this are people who don't like dork souls.
I gave it a try to give it a fair review from someone who isn't a massive PB fan but I can't even complete the game.
