Try going someplace else if the first village is boring.
Frag grenade has a low requirement yet very high damage + knockdown disruption.
The biggest issue is cost.

Also, there are multiple factions out there in the wild.
You can easily bait some mutants/ animals/hostile humans to each other and they'll fight to the death.
You won't get any EXP but the area clear can be helpful. And you can loot the corpses afterwards.

So if the mission tells you to kill someone and he's too tough, consider luring those nasty animals or mutants to their spot.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Everything else I like - made it to first village, got turned away at the pit, etc. Then went to two more quest combat areas and was killed immediately. I may have to give this a pass as I am not a Dark Souls type of gamer.

Update on game so far:
Went looking for 5 murder suspects, as it seemed more of a social quest.

Ran into bug, flew away. Hit by blue wave and died as I flew.
Ran into bug, flew away. Hit by red wave with dot and died.
Ran into two guys by bridge. Flew away. One hit me with a hand-grenade for instant kill.
Ran into bear like creature. Hit once for half-health and knocked down. Killed before I got up.
Ran into guy by pump who is part of a quest. Fight and instantly killed. Reload and attack him from distance and he pulls out rifle and kills me in 3 shots.
Fight two rats. Locked onto one while the other constantly bites me. Manage to kill them for 10 exps total.
Went to get parts, ran into cutscene with two guys in armor pretty much making it impossible to sneak or get past them.

Honestly, I'm at a loss to defend a game that pretty much purposely wastes the players time. I mean it. You solve quests not by using skills (as you can't buy any skills until at least 3 or more levels) but by reloading and figuring out when to run. I don't care for travelling across the map to find out it was a waste of time because I'm too low for the quest. This is a new low for PB.

Stop running into things and play the game correctly. You're supposed to avoid combat. Combat doesn't even give proper XP at low level, you have to do quests and avoid killing anything - you have been drained of all ELEX and are a worthless scrub of a fighter. XP from enemies starts making sense around the time you can actually and are supposed to be killing them.

Yeah, but... where does the manual say this? Why does the game give you combat quests immediately that you have no ability to win? I understand what you are saying, but why the hell make me run across the map 30 minutes there and 30 minutes back for a quest I can't possibly finish? "Get 6 machine parts." Go to get machine parts. Can't do it because its impossilbe at my level. The only way to complete the quest is through combat, and it's not posslbe at my level. That's wasting my time. Multiply that by the 6 quests I got in the first city.

Why ask the player to save the "clerics" as your first real quest if the devs know it's impossible at your level? You go over there and die. What the hell is the point of that? That's not genius - that's the opposite: not so smart!!!

You get turned away from the pit and you simply accept this?
Despite having a jetpack that enables you to fly over walls?

I think they just expect anyone playing to be familiar with how things work by now.
They shouldn't try to dissuade players by just making things hard, people are just going to try and cheese the fight because in most games challenging = big reward.

A level recommendation or something for those "go here kill X" quest wouldn't hurt though.

Nightmares of one, two, and three skull designated quests will disturb my sleep tonight - not because of their supposed difficulty, but because they exist in RPGs.

Seriously though, that is the degenerate shit that ELEX generally excels at avoiding, and is part of why it's a step back in the right direction. Now if we can get rid of excessive teleporter fast travel and quest markers, we're really going to be back on the right track.

traveling to a quest just to find out you should come back later is purely true incline, nothing could be as great as that is

woops turned out the troll was only level 1 and lore and gameplay don't always sync together in RPGs

There's my issue, why is the questgiver asking some wimp with nothing but an iron pipe to solve such a problem?

fortunately the above statement is not true of ELEX, where everything is tied closely together like in a swiss watch

He doesn't lose anything by asking.

He wastes his time asking the pleb rather than anybody from any of the three major factions composed of capable fighters.
I'm getting this quest because I am the protagonist of the game and I get special treatment, not because I have worked to acquire good gear/weapons and seem like the man for the job.

Yeah, but... where does the manual say this?

Dude, let me tell you how it should be played - you saves. Often.
Then you take quests. Maybe not all quests you can get, I avoided that to not breake the game.
And then you bite that pie from every side by a bit - exp here, exp there, you are like a mouse running from a cat from one hole to another.
I, for example, did quests in Berserker village in a way I passed every skill check there - so I choose such order of completing them, and rised such skills, tha allowed that.
It mostly didn't worth it, eexcept qiest near waterfall, when skill check allow you to get more info.

It doesn't mean however you can play only like that - some crazy adventurers used jetpack all the way through end-game areas immediately form start lol.

Yes but it's like a swiss watch made in Slovakia.

Still solid tho.

Given that all of them made in China - yeah, that's a sign of qiality.

My team has the sexiest and deadliest waifus you can recruit.
I feel like recommended levels for quests could be communicated more naturally if before taking the quest the quest giver would actually react/laugh out loud depending on your equipped gear and level whether you are actually suitable for the job (not like they'll have any qualms about sending your underleveled ass to your death regardless). Doesn't mean quest givers need to be 100% truthful about your chances of success either...
