Yup,that is why you are gonna get the word fortress confused with the word butt by using machine translations for asian languages.

The clusterfuck is further compounded by the fact that nearly each kanji has two pronunciations, the Chinese one and the Japanese one, and the fact that some kanji are used to represent the word they were used for in China, while other ones are used to represent whatever word in Japanese sounded closest to its Chinese pronunciation, regardless of its meaning in Chinese. And these different pronunciations are both used extensively, depending if the kanji is used singularly or is part of a compound word, and there are rules to determine how and when the Chinese or Japanese pronunciation is used.

And on top of that they now have to contend with the problem that new technologies and items get introduced all the time, so they have to either play word-salad with the kanji they already have or invent completely new ones.

So, for example, a relatively modern term like railgun is written thus:

電磁投射砲 (electricity, magnet, throw, shoot, gun)

which is fairly logical, and anyone that knows the meaning of the singular kanji can deduce the meaning of the word proper, while some of the older kanji are complete chaos and you need to know that the combination of those two kanji produce a very specific meaning when put together.

External HDDs and flash drives are your friend. A little discretion with what sets you archive also does wonders. If the GDrive link stays up tomorrow (ie Mods don't nuke it, we all know Google will eventually) would you dudes and dudettes be interested in some Retrogamer PDFs? I can't claim they're WOWW SUPAR EXCLOOSIVE PREEMYUM CONTENTZ or anything, but I thought they were neat.

There is a simple way of keeping a large selection of roms:

Anything below 5th console gen can be downloaded in full romsets considering the sizes are small enough(less then a gb).
The exception are the cd variations of consoles(neo geo,sega,turbografix),those range in the several hundred of gb's.
For 5'th and upper gen you look at recs and download individual files.
Racketboy,/v/ recs,retrosanctuary,mobygames are more then enough of a resource to select top games.

Yeah at this point in my life I have no interest in completion when it comes to emulation. I have my own curated list and it's more than enough for me.
