I'm mostly interested in (scouting for) games under development that have gunfight, animations, inventory management already "dialed in" to a good degree, preferably with unity's lightmaps, there are a few, maybe it's a passing interest idk.
Hunt Showdown is your best bet I feel
That's 100% realtime shadows and interior fights I even saw melee and shotguns I'd want large exterior first and foremost so draw distance can shine.

Yup, Hunt is extremely polished in a holistic sense, while Tarkov has some amazing elements yet is completely broken in others. Though it'd be a stretch to really call what Hunt has "inventory management", it's a better experience as a whole than Tarkov's wonderful animations, bizarre AI, excellent ballistics, and entirely borked audio.

Pains me to type that but I've been waiting on the armour hitbox rework since I first played Tarkov and while they finally have some degree of communication with their playerbase, the game is still such a WIP that it's hard to recommend outside niche interests in a way that simply isn't the case with Hunt.

That's 100% realtime shadows and interior fights I even saw melee and shotguns want large exterior first so draw distance can shine.
What are you saying, sorry? Hunt is mostly outdoors, if that's the concern... (you're just more likely to experience conflict in interiors on account of them being choke points and cover rolled in one).

edit
update: I hate this game but i clocked like 40 hours in a week
yeah that sounds about right

The game has a large amount of technical debt they need to clear. They add new things but rarely address existing engine issues in a satisfactory manner.

They do seem to be taking a harder line on cheaters since the big scandal at least, though they should be doing a lot more work here. Also a bit frustrating it took mass outrage to get some movement.

haha they are asking for static shadows, and not just bad fps but current dynamic shadow is used for "hacking" , ridiculous. The "mobile tarkov", "arena breakout" 100% does static, interiors look pretty damned good (sometimes because it's all over the place when they don't have lightmap). Possibly will be a bigger game than Tarkov if crossplatform and will spawn imitations maybe even Fallout like RPG because foundation matches so well.

one such title, one developer. Dynamic shadows :/ . Don't do that but multiple static.

I will say that playing Tarkov on an OLED with correct gamma and brightness settings made the game look ‘ok’ but put me at a comical disadvantage compared to the poopsockers or guys with crappy LCDs.

Has any fps without super invasive anti-cheat? I'm just hoping Arena takes away the competitive minded kiddies that use cheats to uphold their egos. At least the third worlders doing RMT stuff as a job are much less likely to get involved with you in any way.

Recently got dragged back into this game by some friends who are hardcore Tarkov junkies. And it's strikingly how little progress to the core game loop that has been made these last 4-6 years. They have only pushed out weapons and maps.

What irritate me the most is how little getting the first shots off matters in this game. I have a background with other realistic shooters that I like, like Project Reality and the hl2 insurgency mod where getting fire superiority matters a lot because how quickly you can die. But if I do the same in Tarkov all that happens is that I accumulate recoil, while the "pro" player starts zooming in on my head without firing a shoot back standing still, like a CS bot, and one shoots me. I mean they have mechanics for if you get hit in the leg, slows you down, or if you are dehydrated or take a helmet hit affects vision. So I don't understand why taking shoots to your torso, arms or on the actual weapon doesn't throw of your aim or incurs any significant suppression. In a game that strives to be realistic.

While Squad on the other hand are totally reworking their infantry combat model explicitly to remove arcade gameplay and popup shoots. They are adding heavy suppression effects and will model the inside of the scopes so when you bring the carbine up you will se the inside first, this will also happen on turning, before you get a clear center picture. If you shoot in Squad from sprinting the first shoots will go into the ground where the barrel is pointing.

When Squads infantry overhaul is done it will have objectively superior gunplay, leaving only the loot game Tarkos only remaining strength. Then I can finally drop this tetris wannabe piece of shit game once and for all.

It's also important to note that they just do not give a shit. Tarkov's progression being as strongly tied to looting also means that cheaters won't transfer over to Arena. Script kiddies get much more a kick out of killing people who looted something instead of in some arena no stakes bullshit. And while RMTers are indeed much less likely to get involved you with, they still vacuum loot spots way before you arive. They might not mess with you directly, but they're fucking you in other ways.

Don't forget that they also made a bunch of steps back. Audio became atrocious around the time I stopped playing early this year and they haven't fixed it as far as I'm aware.

I loved this game, I started playing this shit religiously back in December 2017, but feature creep, cheating and general tedium introduced by the dumb ass devs ruined the game imo. They also have so much technical debt, that this game is just unfixable. People holding on in hopes that Tarkov becomes a functional game with 1.0 are delusional. The earlier you stop playing, the better.

I think part of the issue is that a big portion of the cheaters seem to like fucking with people for their own twisted enjoyment.

Whilst I don't doubt some of them will fuck around in arena mode, I suspect most of them will still get more enjoyment out of fucking people over in the base game.

That said, BSG improving communication and the speed at which they seemingly ban reported people seems to be helping the perception they are doing more if nothing else.

Yeah, tedium is the worst. Been thinking about going back into the game, but the thought of doing the watch quest once again, or scrounging for nuts and bolts or analgas, or them fucking graphic cards...

Gotta say, I've mostly been sticking around EFT for the gunporn. Once another game, with better engine, better gameplay, better developers, gets there, I'm all on board.
Sadly, shit like ARMA, or the looter-shooter games from Ubi doesn't get it up for me. Neither does Gun Disassembly.

Not just cheaters mind you, the whole extraction mechanic just begs for griefing.
There's the whole "rat" gameplay thing which was a fad started by a yewtuber, but in reality it's something that's always been there.
Funny thing is, the game was supposed to be something of a coop, yet the mechanics never seem to be there to incentivise.

I'm okay with that, uncertainty and shit being at stake makes for the unique charm of the game, but imo folks need to be able to hedge their losses to an extent.
And what does BSG in their infinite wisdom decided, fuck you, you don't even get the shit in your secure container (ok, you technically get them but you won't be able to sell them
on the flea or complete quests with them)... which seems to defeat the whole purpose of having one in the first place.

Yeah, extraction shooters unfortunately seem to attract a poor crowd as a whole.

I don't think it helps that Tarkov seems to have a slightly similar thing to the From/Souls audience where you have people that base their entire identity around being good at/playing Tarkov, as they associate it with being hardcore.

Gun porn is a big part, yeah. No idea, why nobody has jumped on this shit, seeing how huge the Tarkov playerbase is. And I don't mean shit knock offs like Cycle or Marauders, just a fucking Tarkov clone that actually works.

The "problem" might be Tarkov devs don't seem to know what kind of a game they wanted to make. It was (probably still is) kept afloat by streamers who took it into an entirely different direction
(hence the Arena thing), but for me the original premise was to give us this long awaited STALKER sequel, but more grounded this time. The game even started off with a bunch
of survival mechanics that never really went anywhere and only lead to guzzling comical amounts of snickers and kvass by the main char.

That said, the next STALKER probably isn't going to happen, there's some promising-looking stuff like Road to Vostok, but not sure if it's going to appeal to the
current Tarkov crowd, considering the game's identity crisis.

EDIT: Arena has a kill cam! Hopefully that helps with the cheating issue.

Big surprise, Arena is a big pile of shit. No sense of balance, "quick paced action pvp" has the same bad loading times as the base game (picking your loadout AFTER a loading screen and then having to wait again is peak Nikita) and a general lack of basic logic as you would expect from BSG in 2023.

I wish they would make the "spiritual successor of STALKER" game that Tarkov originaly was supposed to be. But I guess that would be teh hard and the sweet MP money keeps on coming anyway.

Not stalker alike games, but finally some more dev studios are throwing into the fray of tarkov like extraction shooters, hopefully with less retarded mechanics. Problem is all these games look like barebone early access, 10+ years in limbo type of games. It's dreadful that people allow this.

The issue with all those Tarkov clones is that they always use a goofy ass setting instead of going for the gun porn/milsim light aesthetic.

I have zero interest in Arena tbh. And from early reviews, balance wise it's a fucking mess. To nobody's surprise.
Still, that's good. At least the COD and streamer crowd will be contained and maybe... just maybe, the dumb fucks at BSG will start to actually develop the game as it was originally advertised.

That said, seems like a new patch has dropped together with a wipe. Let's see how badly they fucked up the reworked armor mechanics.
Just looking at the notes, looks like a metric shitton of pointless micro shuffling armor plates, only to get blasted in under a second by a lucky hit from an expanding bullet.

Still, nice of them to have a level-capped location for timmies. Might want to reconsider jumping in this time round, rather than wait for SP AKI to catch up.
