Not liking Bethesda isn't anything exclusive to Codex, so me being a newfag doesn't really matter.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
Dark Souls, for example, had never betrayed me like that, and anyway they have constant unintrusive autosave because the whole game is made with iron man in mind.

Are we going to pretend this hasn't been said?

On the internet, writing shit posts.
Still it's mitigated by the ability of the game to just crash to desktop or kill me with a cardboard box because physics. Dark Souls, for example, had never betrayed me like that, and anyway they have constant unintrusive autosave because the whole game is made with iron man in mind.

You don't know what iron man means, do you?
There are no retries in iron man, which is actually counter to the Dark Souls design philosophy of "die and try again until you win."

Unless you stop the game from the task manager and then load the save before that....or copy paste the save from the folder and have a backup.

Unless of course the OP plays Dark Souls by never going to a bonfire ofc, which would probably classify as ironman. Somehow I don't think that's what he means though.

This game is complete fucking shit. WHY do people still want to play this??
It makes the brain feel good as it's a constant flow of dopamine that makes you want to keep playing in a basic shoot > loot > sell > buy > build cycle. The fact that people call it an RPG is frankly insulting because at most it is a open world shooter with some quests if you can call them that. I'm kinda amazed that Bethesda managed to get away with it but they actually got a lot of shit for Fallout 4 and plenty of people realized how shit it actually was and are nostalgic for Fallout: New Vegas now because it was the better game. I think Bethesda will hit new lows with TES 6: Skyrim 2 and go all out with the creation club bullshit. It will probably be the biggest non-RPG Bethesda has ever made and I'll still pirate it because I have with all their games. It's amazing I even managed to complete FO4 but after I did I just quit and uninstalled a week later because I knew there was nothing worth looking for in the world.

Not sure if the dopamine argument works here. I’ve never felt dopamine in any Bethesda game I’ve played.

It sounds like vanilla is the only way to play it. Installing mods implies that you think the game can be salvaged, which is the wrong way to go about it. Ironman doesn’t work either since that requires strategic substance to the game.

Maybe the only way to play a game like this is to pretend you’re an idiot who likes technological progress over artistic or challenging endeavours, that is, who will play VR in Fallout 4 for the sense of wonderment at the expense of intellectual stimulation. A giant tech demo. True role playing: take the role of the idiot who plays Fallout 4!

Iron man means no rewinds, no changing whatever you've done. Dark Souls style of games is an Iron Man where there's no death. However if you lose something or develop your character wrong or do anything at all it is all recorded. That's the point of Iron Man mode - no savescumming, you take responsibility for your action. There's no difference whether the biggest penalty is starting over or losing some resources, it's still completely different experience from the usual save/load idea. There are other games with forced Iron Man that have different approach to it: in Tales of Maj'Eyal you have "lives" you spend and can earn (kinda like in a classic platformer games, only without "continues"), Rogue Legacy allows you to play forever but you become weak if you don't perform well. Still the point is Iron Man punishes you for wrong decisions while in the traditional game you can just reload.

Anyone tried the game out in VR? It came out yesterday. I have never touched FO4 but I am curious to play it in VR as a post-apocalytic survival adventure and ignore its Fallout namesake. But 60 euro is fucking steep.

If you want to try it, pirate it. Bethesda does NOT deserve your money. The VR version is also shit with pretty awful blurriness at even high resolutions, wall clipping and poor performance.

Fenix I fastly went through the changelog and I noticed he added level scaling of enemies. That's kind of shitty ain't it ?

Any good mods on level scalling, damage, character creation, loot and items balancing, meaty and mature quests and atmosphere overhaul?

If you want all of that, it'd be easier to find another game that satisfies those needs and play it instead.

I only started researching the game a bit in the last few days. It was pointed out to me above that it can’t be salvaged as an RPG even with mods, but yes maybe you could check it out as a survival adventure VR game and see if it’s enjoyable in that respect - I know a lot of people do like it (not here of course), but I can’t figure out if those people just have really bad taste or if there’s some redeemable qualities in terms of VR exploration. Problem is people who say it’s great exploring in VR, but then also say it’s great for role playing.:retarded: I don’t know what to believe when they say things like that. Can they be trusted?

So yeah, I’d like to hear a Codexer’s opinion on the VR version, in particular someone who already knows it’s a really bad game but can tell us if there’s any redeemable qualities in terms of VR exploration.

In anticipation of angry replies here, it’s important to note that there are loads of great PC games with survival exploration, so that normally you’d never have to touch FO4 for any reason, but when it comes to VR, FO4 is really the only game of its kind right now.

Also, no telling when a pirated version will come about - they’re really slow with VR releases.

The problem with asking for reviews of Fallout 4 VR is that it's quite literally the only VR game like it right now. Sure the game is shit, but much like sewer water in the desert it looks like heaven when you haven't had a drink in weeks when you port it to a platform that is devoid of any actual meaty games.

I mean, I'll still play it because FO4VR and Skyrim VR are going to be the only major RPGs of any consequence on the Vive for another year or so (Plus Loverslab in VR? :bounce::bounce::bounce:) but I sure as hell ain't gonna pay 60 bucks again for it when I didn't like it the first time.

I am terribly disappointed in you

I get that a lot from my dad...

But anyways, once you get past all the glorified tech demos and blow through the few halfway decent games on the Vive so far, porn quickly becomes one of the few interesting things left to do on it. You can say the same thing about Fallout 4, once the wow factor of the graphics and shiny popaweasel laser muskets wears off Loverslab is one of the few interesting things you can do with it since, you know, it's kind of a shitty game.
