FO3 was a decent "hiking LARP" if nothing else. Making a better story from it is a no brainer. Making a good story is another matter. Still may be a decent game for our bleak times.

The tagline says: "A Safe Bet for RPG Fans"
That's why it's a shitty shooter with VATS and an addon to Failout 3?

* Hardcore mode: Stimpaks take a long time to heal, you need a Doctor's Bag to heal broken limbs, and you suffer from Dehydration so you need to carry water.
Something that was a normal thing in Fallout is now "hardcore".

Dynamite is one of the first weapons you come across
k

Obsidian have focused much more on the story than Bethesda did with Fallout 3
Huh? Bethesda's game was nothing but story, right from the start it was a pretty linear ride to the finish.

VATS now includes a special attack for every weapon
I don't think anything can save a piece of shit that is VATS, apart from cutting it out. Of course cool kids shit on VATS only when it's Bethesda's VATS.

* Weapons can be modded - one of the mods involves reducing the spooling time for miniguns.
About a one thing that is important even if to talk about a shooter that Obsidian got right
* All of your skills can be used to influence dialogue
Even though Beth didn't use all, dialogues were very heavily skill-influenced
It didn't help.

* A "Command/Companion Wheel" gives you control over your followers - the design of this isn't finalized yet
k

* Nightkin are back and can cloak
OMG THEY ARE RAPING MY FA*Developed by Obsidian*
Nightkin back - great!

* The Hoover Dam is intact and produces electricity
Chinese bombed all regions of USA into the stone age but forgot to destroy one of the most important regional objects?

* Electricity seems to be one of the main things in the game
k

* There are 3 factions - the NCR, Caesar's Legion, and (although unconfirmed) the Brotherhood of Steel
Caesar's Legion still sounds lame, considering why it's Caesar's Legion. If BoS will turn out to be knights in shining armour again fighting nightkin I will enjoy watching how fanboi who were shitting on Beth for that will do a 180 flip flop.

* The Helios One solar tower controls an orbital laser platform
Why would a solar tower control an orbital laser platform?

* You can get a portable controller for the laser platform and use it throughout the game
OMG THEY ARE RAPING MY FA*Developed by Obsidian*Fuck yeah this is going to be awesome, I loved fatman!

* Lots of "grey areas" in terms of actions and dialogue - a combined reputation and morality system means everything you do has an effect on something in one way or another.
It's a norm in good writing, nothing special

* New Vegas will have different endings, "instead of the single, potentially anachronistic 'man/woman saves the Wasteland' finale."
k

* The overall theme of the game is about trying to find out who tried to kill you and why.
k

* New weapon - The "All-American" - a rapid fire Sniper Rifle
k

So they just added more retarded stuff to an already retarded game and then decided to cover it up with a bit of sugar (that would've been considered a norm in games of 4 years ago)?

The "hardcore" mode just sounds like an extra level of micromanagement. I don't really see the point.
Water in Fallout 3: give it to homeless people for positive karma or drink it for health
Water in Fallout 3: New Vegas: drink it or die

Seems to me Obsidian's just finding ways to put Bethesda's infamous "LETS PUT ALL THESE USELESS ITEMS IN THE GAME SO PLAYERS CAN DECORATE THEIR HOMES WITH THEM!!" to use.

I agree. I have veiled high hopes for NV. I'm really looking forward to it. There is a lot of good things happening with it, that has me excited.

In what Fallout exactly it was normal that Stimpaks take a long time to heal or lack of water causes dehydration?

Well, he's partly wrong, partly correct.

Stimpacks didn't take time to heal, and I don't think you needed a Doctor's Bag to heal broken limbs, just the Doctor Skill.

As for dehydration, it happened in Fallout 1, but not in Fallout 2 if I'm not mistaken. However, it wasn't anything to give a rat's ass about. It just stopped you when traveling on the map and damaging you... for no damage. Would be nice if they made it more serious.

If it was included as the aforementioned "hardcore" mode (I think just higher difficulty would be enough as calling it hardcore is a bit hardcore), I definitely wouldn't mind. Heck, I wouldn't mind either way, but imagine the masses. LOLWUT DEHDYRATION?

There is nothing special about something that should be a norm.
Special: Distinguished by a unique or unusual quality. (According to wiktionary)

And since good writing is unusual in games it is therefore special.

With such a short amount of time till fall they must be in a hurry, I really loved fallout 3 and expect an even better game from the original creators. I wish they would just be patient and really work on the game. I can be patient too. Even if it doesn't get released for another year or two, as long as they did the best they could and didn't release it too early, I'm happy. I expect alot from this game, a map about the same size, more npc's, better graphics, some travel systems like a hover board, scooter, or even riding on the back of a deathclaw, more interesting scenery vs the only gray scenery of fallout 3, more customization, parts of armor like gloves, boots, chest piece, leggings, belts, capes, and accessories like walky talkys and GPS that you buy and not an actual feature.

Doctor bags give a bonus (either to sucess % or to the actual healing, don't remember), but they weren't needed.

'good' is by definition above the norm. that's why it's 'good' and not 'average', ffs.

To think in relative terms restricted to only the present is a true sign of decline.

Guesstimating an average of the last 20 years in a given media before defining the lines between shit, average and good would be a better way. Really, even the big corps and their Jews, that are ruining gaming, don't define whether the situation of their biz is bad, average or good based only on recent time, but based on the average of the last x years. For example, just because you were on top once, then your life went down with shit covering you up to the neck, but the shit lowered and now covers you only up to the shoulders, it doesn't mean you'd be in a good situation by then.
