That's pretty ambiguous. Legend of Legaia has a turn-based system but in which characters don't have fixed positions in battle. Instead they move around, need to move closer to an enemy to attack it in melee, there's even some vertical space integration. Therefore AoE attacks can miss depending on your position relative to the party member it was centered upon.

They could very well be referring to something like that.

That sounds like the turn-based version of FF XIII's combat. I think it's possible they might go for something like that.

It could still crash like a beautiful silvery zeppelin, depending on how they try to "enhance" the game other than graphics. We'll see.
Making FF7 worse than it already is would require some serious talent, effort and deliberation. I wouldn't worry.

Who left this edge on the floor of this thread? That's absolutely irresponsible, I almoust stepped on it.

The game is full of what actually happened and was presented and what people wanted it to be and demanded it to be enough that the later shit reflected that.

They'll not only screw with Cloud they'll warp Sephiroth in game even more.

IMO, what happened to Sephiroth is worse, since he isn't even Sephiroth, but a piece of Jenova, like the monster in The Thing, you're chasing thinking he's the real deal until you face him and start to think Cloud is just another piece of the beast like "he" is. But no, that's mind-fucky, weird and a neat twist when everyone just wants to see their imagined Cloud fight the Sephiroth they'd like to think is the real deal until the end of time.

And it's not surprise I'm getting a comic book feel from describing FFVII in this way since it's what comic books do - they never leave you wanting more, they stretch things like epic rivalries out until there's nothing powerful left about them.

They could borrow from The Last Remnant's combat.
Oh so someone other than me played the game. :) I liked the system and how grinding was counter-intuitively not efficient at all.

I played it too, and enjoyed it. It's actually fairly famous among SaGa games fans because it is essentially one in all but the name.

The combat is something like large-scale squad-based though, which doesn't really apply to FF7. Unless vonAchdorf only meant stuff like positioning etc.

yes plz

Have they said who's all involved on the staff? I can't imagine this game being any good if Masato Kato and Hironobu Sakaguchi aren't involved in some sort of consulting capacity at least. I don't think it's a coincidence that Square became complete shit once both left.

Nomura said in an interview that they'd be changing the game and plot for a more modern age. Good bye creepy Lovecraftian feel and hello Shounenshit dialed to 11.

The tears of rage from FF7 fans will be most enjoyable.

FFVII generally marks the beginning of the end for me, although I'll concede it was still a good game and still Final Fantasy. FFVIII was the end, FFIX was a vain attempt to bring it back to life, and FFX was just them trotting out a (admittedly decent) JRPG and calling it Final Fantasy, a trend which has stuck with the series ever since.

The best thing I can say in favor of FFVII was that FFVI was basically the perfect swan song to end the classic series. It wasn't going to get any better than that, so they could have just done whatever and it wouldn't have mattered. Final Fantasy as envisioned by the creators ended with the SNES.

I doubt anyone expected a perfect 1:1 version with modern graphics. It's a remake after all, not just HD version of the original game.

FFIX was the last great Final Fantasy for me. Outside of some story annoyances I love the shit out of that game.

For some reason, I can't help but think about the fucked up Final Fantasy VII cult that someone wrote extensive details on, ie people pretending they were FF7 characters and taking it to disturbing levels. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm so glad that I managed to move through this phase of my life. I could have easily been swayed into some sort of bizarre shit like this when I was 12 or 13.
It's incredibly interesting, though. Truly a product of the internet. I've been thinking about it non-stop since I discovered it here.

Also, is it just me, or is this picture of Jen kind of strangely :incline:? She has that 'plain Jane' sexy look.
