considering that the basics like the base, an entire early game mission and the overall look all have been shown I don't think the unrevealed sections will somehow magically go in the other direction

in the same way I decided that DA2 would not be worth playing after I saw the first hour gameplay demo, or that JA2: BIA would be horrid after looking at the alpha footage and 3D herpderp face adaptations that somehow look a shitfuck lot worse than hateful 2d graphic technology, all that was a bit hasty you might think but that's how I live bros, on the edge

small interjection: Civ 4: Colonization was actually darn good.
Major objection: No, it fucking wasn't. It was absolute garbage. Civ 4: BTS was great, though.

I agree with most complaints, but you can't criticize alien weapon damage and to-hit chances. It was a demo, probably easy difficulty, maybe even scripted to show off game features.

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. Firaxis is making a new X-Com game, and it seems to be a proper strategy game, TB combat included, unlike the shitty FPS.

Now, if you disregard the fact that Civ V was kinda shitty, this sounds okay so far. Bad news is that it's gonna be on consoles. And it has bald-headed marines in it. :x

I am going to remain 50/50 on this one till I see the result, but yeah, I'm still excited to see something playable, and recent, on console.

Just the fact that they release a TBS game after announcing a shooter has me peeing my pants!

Mebe publishers are getting the hint?

The original antigrav ball wasn't extreme enough, it seems.

As for what you can expect on the battlefield, Solomon told me that the Floater is really, really aggressive and that, as a flying enemy, he can teleport anywhere around the battlefield in search of any soldiers left to find. I also found out that the Floater will operate in packs, tying down you or a squad mate in one area and then teleport behind the lines to sneak up on other unsuspecting members of your team.
Nevermind the looks, it could be interesting and add a bit to the game if it works as advertised.

the thing is i don t want to criticise the game on purpose but the producers give me no choice ,wth is wrong with them ,don t they realise that the guys that will buy this game are the old x-com fans, the new gamers don t give a shit about tbs,i whould really like to be wrong ,but idk i just hate the guns they look like toys for 8 yr old kids and it looks to cartoony ,plus i get the feeling that it s 4 to 6 man squad because the maps will be very small and there won t be so much enemyes on a map ,and the jake producer the hard core fan is getting a bit old ,i m a old x-com fan and i m pissed off ,i don t get how he s such a dyehard and he doesent see anything wrong with changing so many things, and ps the roofs AREN T DESTRUCTIBLE O_o ,NO AMMO ,SOME STUPID COOL DOWN ON ROCKET LAUNCHER WTF WTF WTF

re-imagined Floater

Wow, I thought they might do some kind of biomechanical floating ball with arms and sensor equipment instead of a head, but apparently that isn't modern enough

how the FUCK does that have the personality of the original? It literally looks like they just cut in half a 'serious' generic evil space humanoid trooper.

the behaviour looks good though, the teleporting thing might need some balancing, ideally working only if someone ventures out alone from the main force

It feels like the devs are changing things simply because their egos won't let them simply re implement the stuff that worked fine in the original.

That's happening everywhere in software industry. You do things differently to show that you can think for yourself. It doesn't matter that you have a stupid cap permanently welded to your cranium, it's making "new" things that counts. Countless rewrites, re-inventing the wheel and replacing tried and true stuff with home-grown shit which is supposed to be better but actually sucks.

you know i learned something in this lifetime ,something wich applies everywhere :
"if something is not broke don t try to fix it "
in a way i like that somebody is trying to make up new things for a game that i like so much ,the only problem i have is they are changing some things that are not broken and had a lot of success with ,rather than just keeping the old things that worked and renew the game with new features thus implementing new with old ,just my op.some things they are trying to do are interesting ,but it doesent look like free gameplay decisions the old x-com had ,and ps the old x-coms had generated maps this one has a limited nr ,60 i think it was ,and on the old x-com i used to play in one playtrough more than 60 so replay value =0
it s funny how a game made in the 90 s has more features than on made in 2012 besides the graphics ofcourse ,but still makes you wonder ,did games really evolved....[/quote]

Differently, better, yes. But what we are seeing isn't differently and better, it's more like someone ordered them to do stuff they didn't wanted, or theirs incompetence.

I wonder why they paid for the name.

God, wth is with those close-ups i hope they can be disabled. I still think the new combat can work, while the rest is in the AIR...

There's a lot of talk about how this "is" or "is not" a good x-com game, ruining the franchise and all that jazz. Honestly who gives a fuck? The game looks like shit, x-com title or no, just like that new jagged alliance mess. This could be a brand new franchise and it wouldn't matter one bit, the game still looks like shit.

... but, hey, who knows, it might give me something to torrent for my iPad and completly forget about four hours later. It's all about seeing that silver lining.

looks like it might be a fun beer and pretzels lightweight strategy game in the vein of massive assault as long as you can filter out that it's supposed to be an xcom remake and serious.
