I dunno about this. I just dunno.

That's an old video.

derpy amounts of hitpoints (the tank-robot-thingie surviving a plasma autoshot?
There is nothing wrong with that. The problem would be when HP would decrease in linear fashion, thus one pistol can be equally efficient against armor as a heavy weapon.

and derpy small squad.
Yes, this was pointed at half year ago. They continued to have 4-6 men squad as total retards.

The cover markers are just help for retards, kinda like quest compass.
There is nothing wrong with them.

The engine looks decent-ish. Here's to hoping modders will fix it
Modders would screw things up royally. Though we might get some naked models, or aliens into the squad.

Impressions after watching first 10 minutes of the vid: Derpy OTS view when shooting, derpy amounts of hitpoints (the tank-robot-thingie surviving a plasma autoshot? SERIOUSLY?) and derpy small squad. The cover markers are just help for retards, kinda like quest compass. They don't bother me THAT much. The engine looks decent-ish. Here's to hoping modders will fix it M:

The video they've shown of higher difficulty levels make it look like the damage is high enough to kill in 1-2 shots. That video made it look like a slugfest but the impossible videos are full of one hit kills.

Well a critical hit can down a soldier in one hit. Then he need medical attention similar to FFT. (He wont turn into crystal...)

Didn't realize the video was old, was the first gameplay I'd seen. Despite some reservations it was enough to get me to preorder at $38. :bounce:

Looked reasonably Xcom-y enough to interest me. And since the guy who was the lead designer of Civ 5 fell on his sword I'll give Firaxis another chance.

There is some kind of medical attention thing but I think it's only for soldiers that are at exactly 0 hp. Most of the time they die right off.

My interest in this declined by a few notches when they showed the PC requirements listing Vista as the minimum.

I'm seriously hoping it's just an oversight (same shit happened for Mechwarrior Online recently), or that it will work fine on an XP, it's just not officially supported.
I mean, it's Unreal Engine, and it still runs on 32 bits and DX9, no reason not to support XP unless you're doing it out of spite.

If not, shame. Looks like I won't even be demo-pirating it.

Why would you still use a decade old OS?
Well my games require 64 bit system, Linux would do. Actually they are not tested on Windoze, because M$ didn't bother to give me a free copy and voucher ticket for additional HD. So the better question is why would someone use more recent version of Windoze, when old version allows all hacker programs, and allows better compatibility with Arcanum and other games.

The question is, why wouldn't I?
Shockingly, it still does its job as an OS.
I have a fairly new system, able to run most recent stuff on medum detail and above (unless its an unoptimized pos like Metro or an atrocious xbox port... both of which are of no interest to me)
I built it myself then decided to run with my trusty custom XP install after a quick driver compatibility check. Blowing 300$ on win7 just for the sake of blowing money away and because its hip is not the way I roll.
I was worried a bit about the RAM limit, though I've yet to see a piece of software I care about that would require more than 4 for adequate performance. I don't do heavy duty 3d rendering, I don't do hi-res photoshoppery,
I don't keep terabytes of porn lying about on my HD and strangely enough most console ports coming out today have 4 gigs listed as recommended.

For the record, I did use Win7, came with a laptop I own. Wasn't terribly impressed with it.

The point is that map sizes have been nerfed. The upside is that missions last 5 minutes and are full of HOT 1337 ACKSHUN, with aliens somersaulting through the air and sw33t-ass cutscenes showing glistening alien cocks and green pubic hair with immaculate detail. The consumer gets what they want--an immediate injection of instagratificationist bullshit.

I don't see a problem with this, provided the buildings have large internal volumes like they did in X-Com Apocalypse.

Which is something I'm extremely skeptical of. A building the size of the one in that demo would exist among numerous structures in the original's terror missions. All the action I've seen so far seems to take place in a 'box.' Nothing gives me the sense of battling in a town/neighborhood. IDK, maybe that's an effect of the camera being pulled back, compared to the original.

Buildings actually collapsed in that game? I didn't remember that.
It wasn't bad, but the art, man... terrible.

It may have only been the greenhouses that would collapse prior to your men evacuating.

I got a bad surprise, while taking on the Cult of Sirius, when a rocket man blew the structure down. :(

They collapsed uring missions AND during fighting in the city map so you could lose a lot of your fighters (both men and vehicles)... I like Apocalypse. First two are better, but Apocalypse is a good game too IMO. When compared to the crap we get today, it's golden.

Now even Apocalypse is better than "stuff today", eh?
So this is what this world has come to.

I'm not trying to be edgy, or get KKK. I'm too old for that shit. It's just a sad state of affairs that it's come to be so that I have nothing to play except 10 year old (and more) games.

The main (only?) defects of Apocalypse is its real-time/pause system (broke the skill system) and the horribly bright colors it chose for most of its in-game objects. And, alright, some rather plain alien/vehicle models.

*Shrug*
