Well either they used supertiling and changed some objects randomly. Or they only defined some objects on the map to be chosen from a list of objects that can fit on the location (both thematically and by size.)

Look at the blue container in the upper part of map in the first image, and when you look at the video look at that house. Considering the whole game isn't out yet, there are not enough statistic data on what exactly they used. An accidental RNG roll might cause maps to look similar even with supertiling, or even more complex type of map generation. (They didn't use more complex type of a map generation algorithm.)

Repeating tiles are the least problem I had with this. What is much more fucking annoying is the horribly FoV and general bad overview. Why they chose an engine for this game that is tailored towards shooter is beyond me, apart from the fact that it's proven to run well on consoles. The Civ 5 engine would have been perfect for that.

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster, yada yada... :salute:

I was really excited about this game, I even had the Special Edition on pre-order. I have to say that while it's cool of 2K to put out a demo before launch, they didn't do themselves any favours with it, as it might end up losing them sales overall (gotta admit they lost my €50). The controls, especially the camera, are just plain bad. Scroll speed is slow even at max speed, camera jumps around hectically, taking control away from the player. Zooming is clunky. No free rotation. No way to remap keys (probably a demo issue). Hotkeys are different per unit (i.e. grenade is 3 on one unit but 4 on another). Have to tab thru soldiers to select a particular one. All in all, fighting with the camera controls took up more energy than fighting the aliens and I dread to say this, but it just feels like a console port. This in spite of them claiming they had a separate team working just on the PC version.

Damn shame overall, it did have a lot of promise, especially since the devs claimed to be fans of the original etc. Oh well, I guess there's always Xenonauts... :P

i know the demo sucks n stuff, but you guys seriously have to try the second mission with plasma or lasers and sectoid commanders as first group.

Can't you see that the man is hurting? He paid for this tripe and can't get a refund!
i could get one, but would have to write a ticket to steam support and come up with a proper reason why the demo has turned me off so much that i don't want the game anymore and then hope they do paypal refunds, but the fact is, i am having fun with rookies against SC's. it has a certain roguelike quality, and if it is fun like that, then mods can indeed fix* it.

* "fix" as in make it fun/more fun, not fix as in make it anywhere near as awesome as original ufo

I'm kinda worried that the optimal strategy is always going to be to "keep your guys in a clump only spaced far apart enough to keep alien AI from turning on grenade mode" and "reveal as little of the map as you can tolerate/is necessary for the objectives each turn" because being on offense completely sucks due to the free move enemies get during your turn. In UFOD/TFTD being on offense is advantageous because of the sighting/sniping/grenade mechanics (plus the fact that enemies just random walk about instead of going anywhere).

Will your guys get the same free move if they are spotted by free-roaming aliens for the first time? Probably not.
Plus, it's still not entirely clear if there will be free-roaming aliens at all before you spot them.

several people mentioned seeing free roamers in live streams and there is a difficulty setting for how likely a civ killed by a chrysalid in the fog of war is to be zombiefied.

FIghting starts at 3 minutes if that link doesn't work, another patrol of floaters. I'm pretty sure they didn't get a free move there, one of them just dashed.
They got a free move, but it looks like they were on the move before.

That doesn't mean shit. I saw them attacking civs, but that was after they got spotted ("activated"). It was a nice move 'though. They didn't charge the player straight away, instead they retreated, zombified some civilians, and charged back in.

Ok then. It's still specicism that the humans don't get a free move.

Can't really tell if it was a dash or not because the dude that had them in LOS got shot, if it wasn't a dash but a free move they could take shots

Either way it's impossible to get the drop on the enemy, cause either they get the drop on you, or they get a free move to get into cover.

The potato vid was retarded, the dude hit like 10 60-70% shots in a row and otherwise would have easily gotten completely wiped. Hardcore save and reload tactics ITV

The demo made me want to replay the original :obviously: What are the mandatory mods for bugfixes and whatnot?
