Tried out a sniper who gets to shoot anything in a squadmates view, only it didn't say it needs to be 0 cover view, out in the open with nothing around pretty much, making the skill shit 99% of the time.
Sniper still needs a clear shot to the target, squadsight just extends the sniper's "Range". Get a skeleton suit or archangel and put the sniper up somewhere high. Sniper with squadsight is absolutely ridiculous if you use it right.

However, going non healer with support class was pretty nice, specially overwatch sentinel. Too bad people can't hit for shit, even with 100+ in aim (that's good right?), with a 95+% hit change?!
Overwatch/reaction fire takes an additional penalty to hit (Unless it's a sniper with the opportunist perk). With 100+ aim he still should be hitting a hell of a lot though. There's also an ADDITIONAL penalty to reaction fire if the target is dashing, but aliens don't dash much so that's unlikely.

I also like how the game tells you psi is tied to high will, but then picks the one guy with the smallest will for psi powers. WHY NOT JUST SAY THIS SHIT IS COMPLETELY RANDOM HAHA WILL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT?
It's RELATED to will and high will influences your psi rolls, and a high will soldier is more likely to be a psyker than a low will, but it's not impossible for the reverse to happen. But testing your high will soldiers first is more likely to turn up a psyker.

I also can't get more than one guy, and it always seems to be a guy, for psi powers, but I've read of people running around with several. Is this possible? And how exactly are you supposed to heal squads inside a UFO, when it goes into HERE'S A ROOF TO OBSTRUCT YOUR VIEW mode when trying to heal, so you can't target the actual guy you want to heal because you can't zoom in in that mode.
It's possible. Psykers aren't super common but if you keep testing you should get more. And it's not tied only to men.
For healing in a UFO I'd recommend using the hotkeys. Pressing whatever the medkit key is, then targeting (if there are multiple targets in range for it) the person you want, then hit it again.

Anyway, missing sectoid, I never got to research plasma pistol. That's what you need for pew pew right?
Nope, if the pew pew you're talking about is plasma. You just have to research ANY plasma weapon. So researching the light plasma rifle from the outsider or floater will give you access to research full plasma rifles.

I have to agree that the main problem is the overreliance on a RNG with too much range.

One big thing is that increasing the effect of chance while at the same time reducing squad size is dumb. Because that makes the probability distribution way too chaotic. You need larger numbers in order to make the overall probability to have a closer bell-curve around the mean.

RNG's screwing you over it seems. I tested 3 groups of people, 4 came out gifted, one assault guy, one support and two snipers, three females one male, random stuff it seems.
Damn shame you can only have psi lab, duplicates would make the screening process much less arduous.

I had gotten the rocket launcher replacement, blaster something before that but not this time. What's the pre-requisite?
Didn't get it myself, but from what I read you need to recover a battleship for it. I blasted all the stuff out of the sky, and no battleships ever came. From what I read up, you actually have to let one go on purpose.

I fucked up and never captured a sectoid
Had the same thing with sectoids, it seems that they stop appearing after a few months. Got my first pistol from the captured sectoid commander at the base.
I actually had one last group of sectoids in a ufo recovery mission with an ethereal on board (not the observer craft, but the one that came afterwards), so it is actually possible to get them for interrogation in the late game (not that you need the beam weapons ticket at this point).

Speaking of questions, I have a few of my own.
Do you get anything useful out of the captured drones for research (with the foundry upgrade that allows to do so)?
How about cyberdisk and sectopod cannons, do you ever get to capture them, or do they always blow up?

Yeah I got plasma, but I never got plasma PISTOLS this time. You need a sectoid captured right? Which is somewhat unlikely maybe at the temple invasion stage.

Huh, maybe. I figured you'd get access to plasma pistols tech after researching a plasma weapon, but maybe not. And it's unlikely but still possible for you to find sectoids. Fingers crossed!

I can confirm this. You need an actual plasma pistol to research it and manufacture. Researching all the other stuff doesn't give you anything (although pistols are not required for, say, plasma beam).

So this is a wait and buy in a steam firesale then?

I invested in Xenonauts KS, and have all the UFO series + Extraterrestrials, and quite frankly their dumbing down of time units is pretty fucking ghey to me, regardless of their idiot babblings -> i.e. must dumb down for console kiddiez to make lotza moniez... kinda like crapthesda sold out entirely and went entire action-adventure for skyrim, and still had the ballz to attempt to present it as an RPG of some sort... That said the story is a bit better than Oblivious, but still... it's no RPG and it's no "classic"... just a money machine, or IOW a crank that prints money for them ATM... (kind of like the local large city's water department... (all the water revenue goes into their "general" fund... v. a dep't of water fund...))

I think battleships are supposed to be like the secret boss of the game where you get the sword of beating the hardest dungeon that would have been nice to have before you beat the hardest dungeon. Especially for the craft cannon you get from it... what else are you gonna shoot down with that?

Chrysalids get a really nice boost from impossible on terror missions - the key problem with them on classic is that a prepared squad has plenty of firepower to gun them down as they come in one squad at a time, which gives you time to set up reaction fire, which cuts down the next one, etc. But on impossible every civilian they kill turns into a chrysalid, each chrysalid is a couple of HP tougher, and there are about 100% more total chrysalids on the map to start with than classic. So you can very easily get swamped when you can't get the off turns to overwatch and/or reload.

[EDIT]
Strike that... intkeys looks shady...
[/EDIT]
They're shady in that they're selling foreign (Probably Russian) gray market keys. They're not shady in that I know multiple bros who've ordered from them without issue and and Valve 99.99% won't crack down on you for it.

So is it like that they bought the keys in countries that Steam stuff are cheap, and sell them to other regions that Steam stuff are expensive? You know, $49 is around 15% cheaper than €49...and as someone who lives in Europe I definitely prefer the former price.

Yup. If you buy from places like that you have to keep your eyes peeled to see if it's region free (Should activate and everything fine on Steam), region locked (Requires Russian VPN to activate the key, then should work fine), or region locked where you have to VPN to activate it AND trickery to launch the game. I generally just go for region free keys which that Xcom supposedly is.

But yeah, apparently Xcom is $20 in Russia from Steam itself. No idea what retail is but eh.

Is it possible that the aliens are able to get more hits than misses because their weapons are better?

Also, has anyone mentioned the VO in the first assault about aliens having better things to do than play computer games?

I just bought it.

Found a retailer that had it at 39€ regular price with an additional 20% discount (Müller to be precise, for other german codexers).
Figured it would be worth 32 €. Will see if I'm going to regret or not.

So I was watching some videos of this and thought the music was kinda familiar. And then I realized.
New Jeremy Soule in the making, he's just overflowing with originality.

Carry on.

Yeah, I noticed the cheaping out on VA too. It's like... didn't like fifty people work on this for four years? AAA psychobudget right? I don't actually care that the VA is bad or the animations look awful, but why isn't this some Unity game that costs 25 bucks, doesn't have cutscenes, and lets me know a team of like eight dudes get to eat instead of making profit for shareholders of a public corporation?
