This game launched on Steam at a really weird time. Like, wtf? Are they banking on a Japanese audience for this shit? Oh wait, they're from the New Zealand, okay. Still stupid.

Also, much success.

The female protagonist (?) literally has no ass so I'm not surprised the game has no players:

There is a major disconnect between the developers and the playerbase.

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

How is this possible?! It is almost like no one wants to play as a sassy negress... Disney just dumped $180M into a show (The Acolyte) full of them so apparently that ESG money stretches a LONG way because negro female leads are still a thing.

Was still unsure about buying this after the demo but decided to get it anyway and it's a lot of fun so far. It's got a pretty good sense of what it is and what it wants to be; basically a lot of stuff from other games mixed together, none of it done brilliantly but all of it done competently, and it all gels together pretty well. The production values are really cool as well, a bit Greedfall-esque in that it's a AA production with a very polished sheen to it. The art direction is really cool, some strikingly alien stuff. Story is okay, seems mostly to just be an excuse to send you into dangerous areas to get into axe fights with groups of bastards.

The Souls-inspired shit feels unnecessary but it's mercifully kept in the background, it mostly just exists to punish you for death by taking your experience away unless you can recover it before being killed again.

Best thing about this is that it seems to have a sensible sense of scale; other similar open world ARPGs in recent times like Horizon and AssCreed always seem to end up going way too far and making the worldspace too big and too filled with pointless shit, but Flintlock is a lot more focused with smaller maps and a digestible amount of content, rather than just spamming shitty sidequests at you.

This game will only be remembered for reddit bots trying to convince you that a 6/10 game is still really good and worth your time.

They're getting really desperate these days.

They picked a very ugly protagonist and added facial tattoos because they really believe that if you push this type of protagonist, man's taste would change and that people could find cockroaches beautiful if socially engineered to do so. TBH, this protagonist is more disgusting than literal maggots, and no, this is not her race; I wouldn't mind playing Katara from Avatar, for example. She is black, and one arc in the very first season involves an offensive waterbender refusing to teach her due tradition and later realizing that not all traditions should be maintained and that talented woman could have its use, but she is not a Mary Sue; she needs a mentor and scrolls with knowledge to learn what worked and what didn't work. Today, learning from mentors and from what has worked in the past would be considered "fascism.".

Having a protagonist who is a master of magic, melee, and marksmanship for free without any effort is silly. What makes any powerful character interesting is when he or she needs to train, learn, practice, make mistakes, try to correct mistakes, etc.

And the combat seems like shit in every aspect. They included magic, melee, and marksman. All are trash. And lack any variety. She can only use an axe as a melee weapon. Why? And as Mary Sue is great at everything, why even replay the game with a different build? This game calls itself as and RPG but freaking Far Cry 3 has better and more in depth character building.

And using gunpowder to jump? This is pure shit.

6/10 game

That is too generous for Forspoken 2. I would give 2/10. A bit better than Forspoken 1(0/10)

She's being assisted by a minor deity who is powering all her attacks; this is both explained to you in dialogue and is also an actual game mechanic, you have to "mark" enemies by pressing E which causes your deity friend to turn to energy and swarm around the target, rendering them weak to your attacks. After enough blows you get a finishing move which is, again, powered by your deity friend who holds the enemy in place while you deliver the lethal blow. You are not a "master of magic", you have no magic at all, all supernatural abilities are done by the god who is following you around, who is also lending his power to your own physical attacks.

As for the second point, the entire plot is the protagonist trying to correct the mistake of being directly responsible for the invasion of the zombies. It's so unclear what the fuck anyone's talking about at this point.

If this is truth, the game is much less shitty than I expected. I was expecting another Mary Sue with no flaws master at everything saving the world.

Notice how a game like Telltale's Walking Dead season 1 had no problems because the fact the main guy was black was never once politicized or used as a selling point in or out of the game, and he wasn't obnoxious and smugly. He was a likable character, not a message.

Now every time there's media with a black character or woman in it they're shoved in your face at every opportunity, they're aggressively annoying and abrasive and the repeated bullshit selling point is that it's the first game/movie/show/book in history to have a black person/woman in it.

It's almost the opposite plot-wise; the hero is directly responsible for releasing a number of gods and swarms of undead who have destroyed the world, because she was fucking around during a crucial mission. The minor deity has allied to her and offered his power because he has a mutual interest in repelling the invasion and re-sealing the other gods. At the point I'm at, the story has so far consisted of the hero taking on various suicide missions to try and beat back the zombies and reach some of the other gods who've installed themselves as local cult leaders.

I mean, she's skilled in melee combat and shooting, but if your definition of "Mary Sue" is "character who has a useful skillset and can take on enemies and dangerous challenges" then you'll want to complain about Doomguy, Gordon Freeman (a civilian who can out-shoot US marines with any weapon he chooses), JC Denton, and hundreds of others before getting to this game, where you're a frontline soldier who's competent at shooting and can swing a hatchet but will otherwise die in a few hits and are being backed up by a divine entity.

the game peaked at 648 players ...

The game is available on Game Pass, which I assume will attract the majority of players there instead of shilling 40 bucks for an indie game. Based on what I've read, there seem to be some technical issues, but aside from that, it's rated around 6 to 7 out of 10, which is within my expectations.

I'll probably try this game on Game Pass after a few patches have been released.

If you have game pass (or any other subscription service) you're a fag.

Thanks for listening to my PSA.
I would have agreed if physical media were still a thing, but purchasing from digital stores like Steam means you're essentially buying a license, so you don't technically own the games.

As always I remain baffled--not just a black chick, but an ugly black chick. The famous "Ugly on purpose" article referred to this as "Marketing malpractice" and "The desire to put ugly on screen overwhelmed sensible communication and basic demographic targeting."

Female MC can work fine as along as you understand your audience is still men, e.g. Stellar Blade. Meanwhile even woke ass PC Gamer is giving this a snoozer review.

It's already cracked, and I won't get this trash even for that price.
But MjKorz said she has no ass?

NO ASS? WTF! That would be the only thing going for this game would be big juicy jiggly jugs and a huge bouncy bangin' ass shaking and saying "Spank me hard you horny fuck!"

Le sigh....

No buy. Cater to ass smack you feminazi cunts.

This is so funny if you think about this more.

1. You are creating a Souls-like. You want it to sell well.
2. Let's check player survey for a game that sold well - Elden Ring (Elden Ring Player Survey - link).
3. What we have is this:

The surveyees

There were 1509 male and 161 female surveyees, while 24 answered “other”.
4. You do the math: 1509 * 100 / 1509 + 161 + 24 = 89%. 89% of your audience are male. 9.5% are women. 1.5% are trolls.
5. Let's be optimistic and assume that HALF of your women players are black (probably unrealistic, but OK). This brings the percentage of your target audience to 4.75%.
6. Final fact: you're spending 3+ years and salaries of 60 people to appear to the audience that matches less than 1 out of 20 people that will play your game.

Doing all of the above took less than 7min. How can anybody approve this plan and hope for a good outcome? World is a funny place.
