Another triple post. Do you need a guide on how to condense your thoughts into one message? Or how to use the "Edit" button?

You're right. It's annoying. I'll work on myself. I'll be back.

The butthurt of the fans of the original comes from the series being raped over and over, not from peasants being peasants. After all, not everyone can enjoy the classics. :smug:

Yeah, sure. It burns people's blood to see Bethesda's games being praised as the best games ever while their favorites fade into obscurity. Only appearing, from time to time, on one of those "Best RPGs of all time" lists found on the Internet, and even then, topped by the likes of Fallout 3, Skyrim, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger.

Communists are not nationalist. So why only Nazis have been vilified countless times in media but not russian communists? And Sweden is not a communist state.

Is it sill being censored?

I don't believe so. After the mega-success of Skyrim, Bethesda stopped its blacklisting-of-small-sites policy. We're just a drop in the bucket to them now.

I'm sure they cry when they see that they get no love here. To quote a famous American entertainer: "I cried when I saw the critics' reviews of me... I cried all the way to the bank."

In a way it's true. We are a niche, a pretty loudmouth niche at that. And games that we like have the tendency of being low sale.

We are Oscar of niche gamers, for niche gamers. Or Saturn Award Committee. games that we like? have low commercial volume.

Mind you. The problem is that one day pretty soon all the high sale games want to be known as high quality games. They want to get Oscar you know. And all their fanboys is and will get terribly spurned by us for being enjoy such lowbrow entertainment. Away, you provincials! No Oscar for you.

It's fine if you laugh all the way to the bank. Just dont expect to get praised for that~

You should be in position to explain it, seeing as Bethesda's Fallout vastly overshadowed the classics when it came to popularity, critical and commercial success... one could even say that classic Fallout is not criticized as often as Bethesda's Fallout because pretty much no one but the hardcore fanbase cares about classic Fallout anymore...

The delusion some Codexers suffer from is baffling.

And yet, at least story wise, elements of the originals are effectively beloved by the new Fallout fans. You see that with FONV's reception where they talk about how much they love FO3, and yet, when it comes to FONV they pause for a second to emphasize that the FONV story was a step above it. Something about it was downright objectively better and they loved it.

We all here know FONV is a highly cannibalized Van Buren that lacks much stuff and has many added parts right down to the plot itself, and yet what it very clearly conveys in the beginning is a connection to the story of the previous two games and their elements in a way Bethesda seems incapable of even understanding, reducing it to simplistic silliness.

That connection strikes even those derided fans and how many of them want Fallout to be more than what Bethesda delivers even if they won't break and hate them like the Codex. All of this makes me think of a situation like hating a family of asshole, spoiled kids, but once you see how they respond to proper parenting, you realize the problem isn't the kids, it's the parents and the shitty way they're raising them and that the kids could be better if raised better.

The problem with new Fallout fans is that Bethesda only wants to tap them for money and deliver Todd's standard fare, they don't want to give them more that has made FONV a rare thing: it's beloved by both Fallout fan groups for the same damn reasons.

The map design is really weird - as people have said, the wasteland is true open world but feels mostly boring and awkwardly designed. There's cool stuff and bases, dungeons, camps, outposts etc that most players will want to see, but they're just randomly scattered around with no logic or forethought. And, as usual with these games, the stuff that's worth seeing is hidden away amid a mass of stupid boring copy/paste dungeons that waste your time.

The DC area is more linear and forces you into metro tunnels, but the actual above ground sections are some of the best parts of the game, to me anyway. Bethesda had some really good art designers working on Fo3 and walking around the ruins of the strange vaguely Fallout-inspired 1930s - 1950s city they designed can be very Atmospheric™. Plus, sneaking through the ruined buildings is about as much fun as you can have with the stealth skill in any Bethesda game, even if it's still janky as fuck.

I don't get why people keep loving the DC section. I hated it, nothing but mangled ruins that traded the brown everywhere for concrete grey. At least the underground sections had some style and atmosphere to them,, even if flooded with ghouls, which is still better than the super mutants above.

DC was the one area I avoided. It was actually out along the fringes of the map that I felt it was best, out by the satellite towers in the north and down by Dunwich and such.

Many do... but many others claim Fallout 3's "emotional story" was much better and they didn't care about New Vegas' faction conflict.
I have no doubt people love elements of classic Fallout, but even a lot of New Vegas fans would be against returning to the series turn-based isometric roots.

True, Fallout 3 is pretty good. It's different than New Vegas and that's a good thing, both are great. I'll have to replay Fallout 3 with the DLC sometime since I never saw the DLC and missed a large portion of the map because I breezed through the main story.

It's mostly because I really liked the art direction in Fo3. It doesn't feel at all like the same setting as the original Fallout (mainly because they went way too far with the 1930s/1940s/1950s stuff, something I wish they'd toned down further in New Vegas), but it does present a really cool-looking retro-futurism sort of thing, and that's best showcased in the DC areas, so I had a lot of fun just walking around ignoring the game's plot and exploring the destroyed city. There's a few interesting hidden things in the city too, like that street with the guy who's mined an entire alleyway and detonates it if you try and walk through. On top of that you can stumble across some settlements and extensive dungeons, like the science museum where all the ghouls are, and the big hotel full of super mutants that you have to keep crossing over rubble between buildings to scale.

With a mod to remove the shitty green filter, the city has some interesting colour schemes going on in a few parts - faded red Nuka Cola billboards, rusted orange bus stops, bright blue metro signs and so on.

By the way, speaking of the Bethestard butthurt, I forgot about this:

Vault Dweller - Ukrainian who immigrated to Canada. Went from nothing to Vice President of sales and then quit his job to finish Age of Decadence. Ran this place for a while but parted ways for wanting stricter rules. Married with a daughter or daughters, can't remember if it was singular or plural. Infamous for being grumpy and curt, like many Eastern Europeans. Wrote a not-entirely-negative review of Oblivion that got the Codex blacklisted by Bethesda. Also wrote controversial reviews for Fallout 3 and Dragon Age: Origins.

The butthurt on the Bethesda forums was at critical levels at that point. They had "RPGCodex" and derivatives censored by their word-filter. Just imagine what sad sacks of shit they are.

No, but they periodically necro old accounts to post pastas like the op's. We live rent free in Pete's head.

Dude, Broken Steele and the one that takes place in the bayou are better than anything in the main game so you should give it a go. In fact, I recommend finding some good mods that ramp up difficulty and aren't too artificial and play the whole thing again. To make the game less lonely find a good companion mod or martegen's monster mod or that brilliant one from Talkie Toaster that lets you make robots though it lacks all the cool features of the same author's mod for FNV. But replaying heavily modded FO3 with all DLCs about 4 years ago was an enjoyable experience.

I like Beastro's analogy above. We all were very disappointed with FO3 and how Bethesda handled it but some of us just have a more grown up or mentally healthier attitude about it instead of all this ridiculous bitterness & hatred that reminds me of women that just can't let it go, complaining about their worst relationships of their pasts yet continuing to keep up on and studying EVERYTHING about their former partners.

The implication here that people haven't let go already. I know i have. I have let go a long while ago and i don't expect the franchise to ever go back to anything resembling its glory days.

The problem is people like you that come here with trash arguments and then get all defensive when, gasp, people counter argue. Then when people like you can't counter argue, you resort to the same inane nonsense of "you just hate different" or "you can't let go" or "you are always complaining about Bethesda" or any of the other variants. You come off as really childish when you are complaining about complainers. Do i also need to remind you that you come off as an hypocrite when you say people just hate different but then heavily modify the game we are criticizing to suit your needs?

And what is even your goal here? To proclaim you are so much better than everyone else because of your "grown up" attitude? What, do you expect people to just stop criticizing these trash games? Because fuck that. I'm not gonna lower standards and accept garbage like Fallout 3 or any of the other Bethesda Fallouts. And put people on ignore if you are tired of reading people complaining about Fallout 3 or any other Bethesda Fallouts, no one is gonna stop criticizing these games just because you say so, or even just imply for people to do so.

You don't think you are the only person who has ever played Fallout 3, do you?

Nope, but I know when someone is full of shit.

You have to be retarded to think your opinion on Fallout 3 is fact and no one else can think differently. Else how do you explain you are asking me if I'm serious about some (read: many, many people) thinking Fallout 3 had a fantastic, emotional story?

I haven't defended Fallout 3 as a game in this entire thread, not even once. But it's silly how some Codexers think their dislike of the game erases the game's success and reputation from the rest of the general public.

"Wah, I can't take it when other people don't like what I like, why are you guys so negative why can't you just HAVE FUN?? Why are you living in the past??? Why can't you LET GO???"

It's fascinating, isn't it?
