Well on the positive side of things; it's isometric, it doesn't look like Queen's Wish, the living craft looks respectable and the Shaper looks like a Shaper. Wonder if he'll kickstarter this one with vague promises of "improvements."

Looking forward to hearing the classic sound effects from past games and deathly silence instead of music making a comeback too.

There wasn't much to the character creation tbh. You mostly beefed up whatever your char was good at, as well as necessary stuff like lockpicking.

That said, I imagine he could easily just make it simpler and have one shaper stat instead of multiple.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex USB, 2014 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Geneforge is one of the best rpg series ever, if not the outright best. Geneforge 1 also makes for a good stand-alone, self-contained game, so even better. I hope this goes well. I will no doubt purchase it.

It's not like it can turn out as bad as Queen's Wish, right? Right??

Geneforge doesn't need to be remade.

You must be colorblind.

Modern Vogel is a colossal greedy dumbfuck. Geneforge series are his magnum opus, they are legitimately good and the only thing they're lacking in terms of a mass appeal (and, thus, good sales) are the graphics. So, obviously, he goes as greedy as usual and doesn't bother to invest. Just make visuals on par with your average indie and you're running a goldmine here. But no, Vogel gonna Vogel.

New geneforge could use the Avernum remake graphics with better UI. Seriously Vogel should hire an UI specialist, or whatever. It's a nightmare to navigate those menus, and I always have to resort to autohotkey to rebind keys.

I'm spoiled from playing Amplitude games. "Right-click to close menu" should become an industry standard.

For one thing, creature customization is probably out. The future's not looking good for the mines either.

But why. Do you have sauce?

This *is* Vogel we are talking about.

Yes. But let's, for once, pick the most positive spin we can get. Mechanically, particularly compared to later entries, GF 1 is rather simple. Fewer creations, classes are direct as they go. SURE, if he gets insane and does a shit job like the Queen's Wish abortion of a system he can fuck up, but he has merely to redo exactly what he did, smooth some angles, and it's good.

GF1's strength was, after all, reactivity and multi-factional choice. Also all the small little (and big) things you could do with Leadership and Mechanics (I still think GF1 wins a prize or something for the crazy number of ways you can deal with the "final boss", if he's even a final boss in your run).

In before Vogel puts out a deranged post "YOU KNOW GUYS I WAS REWRITING THIS AND SERIOUSLY THIS IS 2020 WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT FACTIONS WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT WRITING ALTERNATE WAYS TO SOLVE ENCOUNTERS YOU KNOW IT'S 2020 IT'S TIME TO STREAMLINE AND IMPROVE SO YOU I AM GOING TO IMPROVE THE SET-UP BY GIVING YOU AN OPTIMIZED LINEAR EXPERIENCE. I AM A 75+++ YEARS OLD INDUSTRY VETERAN AFTER ALL."

I think there's more at stake than just that. For example I'm afraid that Vogel is going to ditch the awesome and atmospheric 2d art of the original.

Vogel just doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on what made him great. Or an even worse case is that he does understand what made his previous works great, but he hates it and keeps trying to redefine himself, and utterly failing at it each and every time.
