Definitely one of my favorite games of the past 5 years. And I was shocked as shit when I first played it and found that I loved it.

I was thinking it was going to be a knockoff Oblivion.

Also anyone know if a sequel if planned/time frame for that?

Love it. This is another game that feeds into my tin foil hattery about game reviewers' agendas. Sorry, the likes of ME2 and FO3 are not better RPGs than this. The notion is laughable. And them nikkaz was giving D2 7s? Choke on my enema.

It's because Divinity II, despite being fun as hell, is also not nearly as polished as other games. When it comes right down to it I think that a lot of gamers will pick flashy graphics, cutscenes and celebrity voice acting over something that's actually enjoyable for non-aesthetic reasons. Let's face it, it's not a very polished game, but it makes up for it in sheer size and quality of gameplay... if Bethesda had made this game and got Liam Neeson to do a character, it would have been scoring 9s and 10s across the board, even if it was half as good.

That said, the Xbox 360 version of Divinity II apparently sucks. I imagine a lot of people just played that for a few minutes, said "bad controls, ugly graphics, no cinematic cutscenes" and called it a day.

Sweet intellectual ascetism bro, I also apply this mentality in my personal life and in how I play the video games

Anyway, even for those that don't bother to look behind the appearance to see how things TRULY ARE, this game looks like a generic Oblivion clone with a dragon gimmick so it's hard to blame people (any people, the bad guys and the good guys... that's right) for not caring about it at first sight. However I would say it's almost on par with Gothic 2, if only it had a better combat system, better difficulty and less ridiculous loot generation

I played it because of this thread, and it's p good, however I wasn't able to complete a quest because of a bug and it pissed me off. Not sure if I'll continue any time soon, but yeah it's a cool game

I was one of those who didn't care about it at first sight, but because it looked too different from Divine Divinity (aka I hate jaggy, asymmetrical armor).

However, I got past appearances, like i do with every game, because content is what counts. I'm a fool for expecting "professionals" to do the same.

Two new games in the same setting:

An iso RPG/HnS continuing the original Divine Divinity games and dragon knight game (Dragon Commander - Larian cannot into naming games, but I don't mind) focusing on dragon aerial combat (trying to make it good this time) and tactics, with TB strategic layer in between battles.

You sure the other one is going to have a topdown cam? That would mean no real successor in the style of div 2.

Hey guys,

I've got a problem and need your help.
I had originally bought (as in payed real money for legitimate copies, so cut the hurr durr pirate shit) Ego Draconis and later Flames of Vengeance. I now wanted to check out the patch that brings the original game+add on up to the level of The Dragon Knight Saga.

Problem is, when it should load the main menu, all I see is a black screen.
After digging around in forums, it seems I found a solution: I'm missing some files (for whatever reason).
So could someone with Dragon Knight saga (or best someone who installed the patch, like me) please (pretty please?) go and have look at your
\"Divinity II folder"\Data\Win32\Packed\ -folder and compare the files in there with this list:

Characters
CharacterTemplates
CompiledAssets
Effects
FlyingFortresses
GUI_Unprocessed
ItemPhysx
Items
KFMs
MainDataPlatform
MainDataStartup
MainDataStreaming
MainDataStub
Patch
Scenery
SceneryPhysx
Soundbanks
Textures
Textures2
Trees

All this files are .dv2. I know that I'm missing at least 2 files (gui.dv2 and gfx.dv2).
Could someone please upload the missing files and provide a link to me?

I tried copying the files from the old Flames of Vengeance install which I had backed up, but that won't work right (menus are wonky).

Would be great!

Ah yes, because in your limited perspective the only explanation is "Herp derp, shitty pirate, hurr durr"

FYI, I have bought both Ego Draconis and Flames of Vengeance, but apparently for some users inexplicably the patching process does not work and they end up with a black screen instead of the main menu.

Well, maybe someone else will help, otherwise I'm going to wait for support from Larian.

The guys at Larian are indeed pretty cool and have a fast support, too.

I had contacted them yesterday late at night and already got an answer.
So in case anyone has similar problems, here's the answer:

There is one file that failed to complete in the patch process:

This is most likely due to using the pre-patched Ego Draconis version from
software pyramide, which was released after the making of the ED+FoV to DKS
patch.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

Kind regards,

Octaaf Fieremans
Larian Studios

They also kindly provided the links to dl the two missing files.

So, in case anyone starts from the same Ego Draconis version (the "Software Pyramide" one), either contact Larian support if you have the black screen bug, or send me a pm.

There are some copies on eBay, but the game package is a regular DVD case, the manual is thin and it comes in 3 cds...just go for the GOG one BRO, it's way cheaper too.

I recently finished DKS and by the end, only momentum was keeping me going. I liked the first quest hub; there was a decent balance there between combat, talking to people about quests and exploring the pretty landscape. Unfortunately the 2nd quest hub was just a huge garbage pile of repetitive combat (Hey, another Flying Fortress full of skeleton archers!) and the third quest hub (the expansion) was half shitty combat and half dull fed-ex quests (Have you seen my lost piece of jewelry?).

The combination of the sheer amount of combat in the game and the fact that almost the enemies behave identically (archer, mage, fighter) makes the game feel like some sort of minimum wage job. The only good thing I'll say for it is that it's a big step up from "Divine Divinity" in terms of the interactivity of the combat, which is why I was able to finish it. But unless you just adore repeating the same attacks on the same monsters for ~80 hours, I can't reccomend it.

I got this during the Steam Autumn sale, played four or five hours, haven't picked it up in well over a month. Gamebryo engine ruins the combat. The questing/storyline is okay but nothing amazing. I just don't see what people raved about.

Where are you after 4-5 hours? Did you leave the first area?

It's a very "better than the sum of its parts" game, it has a bunch of quirks and a sense of humor that turn what would normally be a soulless ARPG in the vein of Kingdoms of Amalur into something better and more fun. With that in mind, enjoying it is contingent on enjoying these quirks, so some people will just find it banalshitboring, and that's fine. Not everyone needs to like everything.

I will say though, that in terms of hope for the developer's future project, it outstrips almost every recent release. I am actually anticipating Larian's next game, while I don't give two shits about what Obsidian, Bioware or Bethesda are making.

Why would anyone say this game is better then say DA2 is beyound me
I played it for like 5 hours, litteraly forcing myself to see something of value here
Game is utter shit, it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sooooooooooo easy, i played on hard, you just go around killing stuff, with no problem what so ever.
What is even rpg in here? You just go around kill stuff, get loot. I would rather play Diablo 2 then this anytime, much better game than this. It is also very imbalanced and shity, with bunch of skills that do nothing.

Sorry it has to be me to say this, my brother, but there is room for only one skyway in this world. And at the moment, the original is of superior quality.
