Bro, don't be a dick. I was asking for a summary for the exact reason being an unwillingness to mine this thread for an answer.

Renegen, thank you for being a bro.

I dunno. Charm + fireball + magic missile + magic blast worked pretty fine. That and lots of running away to replenish my mana.
The base was easy with guerrilla tactics.
Well, I'd say that if you have to use guerilla tactics, it's already hard.

It might be because I tend to JoAT when I play an RPG for the first time so my character tends to be spread a bit thin, but I was generally somersaulting around and spamming ranged attacks to avoid melee instarape. Stuff like exploding arrow or firewall is really helpful in such circumstances.

As for the charm, I was always afraid to put points in it, because it apparently doesn't give you XP for indirect kills.

I'll need to make a ranger specializing in split arrows and WoTR some day, BTW - to either spam whole groups of enemies at range or make shotgun blasts at point blank.

voice acting

(S/P)layer (to goblin without a tongue): I’d ask you if the cat got your tongue, but you might consider that to be somewhat rude.

Narrator: An angry hiss confirms your suspicion. Erlking would indeed consider that to be ‘somewhat rude’.

 :salute:

Also, add dialogue in general:
Bandit: You! Your money or your life!

Slayer: An interesting proposition. One's life may be worth more than money, but what is the value of a life without money? Is a life of poverty a life worth leading, and is therefore putting life before money the better choice?

Bandit: Wuh?

Slayer: It's not a given to judge life higher than wealth, you see: the rich man will die to protect it, the pauper will die to attain it. I am the rich one now, the pauper should I comply to your wish. So you appreciate the conundrum you put before me.

Bandit: Huh...

Slayer: Then again, life is life, and I must balance carefully whether I shall risk the pleasures of this earth for the - in comparison - meagre price of gold. Of course, as is obvious, many of those pleasures do come at the price of the gold in question, which brings us back to our original dilemma.

Bandit: Stop! No more talking! Hurts Hallorn's head!

CONS:
only an action RPG?
Worse - only a H&S.

Still a damn good one, though.

Add the soundtrack to PROS. The sentinel island theme is my favorite piece.

Soundtrack really is pretty decent, but damn, you've just pointed out one of my least favorite tracks from it (along with the dragon form music). Sounds just like generic "epic" shit to me. I much prefer something in the veins of Broken Valley music.

Sentinel island theme is Vangelis knock-off, best track is "Troll village" and "The Dragon Terror Patrol will prevail".:smug:

I dunno. Charm + fireball + magic missile + magic blast worked pretty fine. That and lots of running away to replenish my mana. The base was easy with guerrilla tactics. Charm was the most important spell for me early on in the game. I was level 11 when I first entered Maxos' tower. I had to fight 4 level 14 skeletons in a 4x4 room. At level 11. And repeat that 3 more times. God bless charm.:salute: I was underleveled pretty much for the entire game. Guess I skipped too many sidequests without knowing. I was always 2-4 levels weaker than my enemies.

I'll do warrior run one day. How difficult is playing as a warrior?

Thanks for reminding me of those rooms. And trying to run through Amdusias' room without getting oneshotted by his dragon form. I guess the game expected you to do some sidequests in BV before diving into Maxos' temple.

I had a pendant which gave me +2 to hide in shadows so I just ran across that bridge without getting shot once. The fight with him was quite retarded, though. I used magic blast to keep him occupied for 3-4 seconds which was enough to run away to the door and hide behind a pillar there and kite him like a retard. The alternative was getting my hp down to 2 with his explosive shot and then get killed 0.5 secons later with a normal shot.

The talking magic doors and locks. And the narrator.

And that one locked chest with a female voice who... well, wanted you to put it in.

Amdusias' dragon form wasn't that bad, you just had to dodge all the time (or turn invisible), preferably after using suitable protective potions, explosive arrows were worse but that's where your undead minion came in as meatshield allowing you to reach Amdusias and rape him.

PROS:
story
voice acting
exploration
hidden shit
tons of sidequests
a lot of skills

CONS:
only an action RPG?

It's just better than pretty much every other open world RPG released around the same time. I personally enjoyed that the game didn't feel like it was holding your hand.

add "absolutely terrible combat" to the CONS. which is quite crucial for an A"RPG". a real pity... on one hand we have KoA with a pretty decent base for a combat system but where everything else is ultrauber herpaderp, while on the other there's DKS that does the exact opposite. if only there was a way to "merge" the 2 :(

Reading about this game makes me think that I would enjoy it a great deal. I kind of want to get playing but I'd like to know what version of DKS I should get. Is there a manual that's worth it or is the disk version basicly nothing more than a steam key ? Any drm free version available ?

There is an official no-cd patch that shuts down the DRM, go for disk version.

Official even ? That's nice of them. Disk version it is. Looking forward to the music aswell, I remember the first Divinity game as having intro music so good I would sometimes listen to the whole song before continuing my playthrough.

Brilliant, I will now always envision mr Pokrovsky surrounded by keyboards and stars, a god amongst men, with his trusted familiar at his side. This mental image will greatly enhance my enjoyment of his music throughout the game. I thank you sir.

Booting it up again, going to play as a ranger instead of mage this time. Any tips?

Easiest build in the game. Way Of The Ranger + Splitting Arrow and Explosive Arrow plus whatever else you like.
Splitting Arrows and WoTR should work fabulously well with Hide in Shadows - you WoTR, turn invisible, run up to some faggot and *BAM! ARROW SHOTGUN OF EXCESSIVE RAPE*.

The running up the Tower theme is best for the ambiance you get from the whole scene.

Sure as fuck I won't remember that. Ranger was my first build so that was some time ago. I'm sure that boss lasted longer than 10 seconds. Anyway, what does it matter, at that point you are overpowered with any build. As taken overall, pure warrior is way harder to build from the start.
