Cyprus is pretty close to Israel. Just saying. :smug:

Yeah, I remember once my credit card company froze my card because of the purchases from GOG. I realized it was because their system didn't like purchase from a Cyprus company.

Also their games are hosted in a Montreal data center. I always get ridiculously fast download speeds from them.

I remember once their site was down, and I realized it was because the Montreal mafia had burned down a small commerce in retaliation of some gang wars. The data center was collateral damage.

I had the same problem. Had to call up my CC company and almost declined the charge because he pronounced it "GOG instead of Gee Oh Gee."

Finally bought FTL, I hope the expansion will come soon.
Vanilla never really convinced me much, but given the good reputation it has here, I thought I might as well check it out finally...

I use paypal for GOG.com since I noticed that my credit card company charged a 3% foreign transaction fee.

I can understand their reticence to Cyprus transactions, since Cyprus is used by a lot of people, especially from Russia, to set up dummy companies for money laundering.

Paypal charges you extra foreign transaction fees too even if not transparently. I have friends I keep trying to explain this to, but they don't want to accept it because the fee is not explicitly mentioned.

The only way not to pay these fees is to get a credit card that is specifically marketed as such. I have a credit card from JP Morgan Chase in Canada (they are behind the credit cards of a few retailers like Sears), which has the unique feature of not incurring the user any extra fees when purchasing in another currency (on top of the minimal one Visa or MasterCard already charges), which means every purchase in foreign currency costs 2.5% less.

According to the GOG.com payment information page:
if you use funds already present on your PayPal account to buy games on GOG.com, you will be able to avoid any such additional costs

I was always charged the listed price with PayPal, and not a cent more.
I should have clarified, I was talking about using my checking account linked to PayPal, not the PayPal credit option.
And I'm not sure if PayPal has a different policy for Canada.

It's flat out untrue, sorry. When Paypal tries to have me pay with my credit union chequing account per opposition to my JP Morgan Chase card, it always costs more. It's the same BS "charging you in your currency for your convenience (while we charge you a markup". I did a few purchases in USD just yesterday and there was a 2,5% markup at least every single time, if not more.

I don't understand why they mention you will "not receive a surcharge if there is money already in your Paypal account", the conversion has to be done wherever is it earlier or not, and Paypal takes a conversion fee whenever that occurs, period.

I suggest anyone making foreign purchases to get a credit card that charges no extra conversion fees for foreign currency purchases. And never, ever let anyone convert the purchase to your currency for you, it is ALWAYS a scam. ALWAYS pay in the original currency.

Pretty sure I own all the ones I would want there, but I'll do a more thorough scan later.

Might get the second and third Simon the Sorcerer games I guess, though I doubt I would ever get around to playing them.

Do play Simon 2, it's pretty awesome. It's like the BG2 to Simon 1's BG1, in more ways than one.

I highly recommend Powerslide from that list. It's one of the best racing games ever released. It had a hardcore following that raced even years after its release.
My fastest laps are still on the web. As you can see, I sucked. :D
I'm going to buy it again. According to the reviews the GOG version works on Windows 7, my original CD doesn't.

I always preferred Simon 1 despite the obnoxious walks into the forest.

I retract my recommendation. GOG "made it work" by disabling the Direct3D Version. So you're stuck with a butt-ugly software renderer or a glide emulator that supports a max resolution of 800x600. That doesn't do this game justice.

The first two Simon the Sorcerer games were great, but I'd stay away from the third one. It was redone in 3D and had outdated blocky graphics even when it was released.

I watched some youtube LP's of Simon 3 and they made me glad I skipped on it, especially due to all the running involved.
