Honestly ridiculous given the state of some of these given that especially for 2, there is a fan patch which fixes a majority of issues. At most, there's always the possibility that Konami didn't want anything outside of their team put into their product but it's still really fucking basic on GOG's part to see them fix the modern OS compatibility issues of it but not something like fixing controller trigger inputs. I guess the one silver lining of all of this is that Silent Hill 2-4 might actually hit GOG one of these days now (and by in large minus 4's 15 FPS cutscenes and some of the graphical stuff, those ports generally fare much better than any of these old ones).

Real question is how much effort went into this PC version of MGS1 or is that ancient one where pressing ESC immediately closed the game to desktop.
Didn't buy 1 but given the version of 2 I just tried out has that in it, probably.

For the original Metal Gear they have a patched rom you can play through Open MSX. $5.99 for an old game that users have made available for free? Reminds of Nintendo.

Judging by the shock and awe across the internet, I think people forget those games had PC ports already and this is just a digital release of them. Wonder how many tweaks GOG made on their own, or if the fan patches are still required.

Pretty much every PC game ever made "users have made available for free" bro.

Hopefully they will add from Konami next Silent Hill 2-3-4. I don't think 1st one was on PC.
I remember back in the day playing SH2 and 3 on PC.

I wonder if we'll ever get a port of Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PC, the best of the series. If they include a gameplay tweak to quickly change between camos without having to go through menus, it would heaven... But I doubt it will ever happen.

In my experience GOG usually do bundle deals with publishers and then trickle the games out here and other over a handful of weeks, so I would not be surprised at all if those show up in a couple weeks.

Considering there is a SPACE COMBAT sale ongoing, would someone please recommend me THE best X-Wing game?
I'd prefer to play using KBM if possible... I have a HOTAS but it's such a hassle.
Thanks.
I think TIE Fighter Collector's CD-ROM (not to be confused with Collector's Edition or Collector Series) is generally considered the best. IIRC it does have KBM support but it's not the best way to play the game. I think it's the version that GOG sells.

So are these actually fixed or is it just with the usual fanpatch slapped on?
But you know, if they end up doing MGS 3 on GOG too, which to my knowledge, didn't get released on PC, then there's a chance that the original Silent Hill will get on there too. I know that one isn't as appreciated as the other entries in the series, before it went to shit, but it'd be nice to play it properly on a keyboard.

Why is it over 100 mb? That is strange for an ancient rom from the 80s.

It looks like this is the version that was included in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, with hi-res font and all that.

Since MGS3 was never released on PC, I guess this is the most effort they put among these releases.

Game was ported over to mobile where it got the hi-res font and some updates; similarly that’s where updated portraits for MG2 come from whereas the original MSX2 version had the infamous Sean Connery portrait for Big Boss among the other portraits that are based on real people. Subsistence are just ports of those phone versions with a few more changes. MG1 on GOG looks like it is that mobile version. I’m assuming MG2 got passed on due to its phone version being available only in selective Japanese services that no one outside of Japan would be familiar with.

I never played Machiavelli The Prince, but it's a spiritual successor to Merchant Prince, and that was a fun and well done strategy game.
Machiavelli is basically a full copy of Merchant with graphics redrawn from scratch to use 640x480x256 and bugfixes. I recall Merchant Prince having some crashes here and there. I wouldn't be surprised if they share the codebase. We spent a lot of time playing hotseat multiplayer back in the day.

Anyone else experiencing a server failure right now?
The site is loading fine here and I can download from my library. I can't get my shelves to sort alphabetically (or anything except purchase date) but everything else seems in order. All of that applies to their site however, I don't use Galaxy so I can't test that.

Yea, I see, now the site started working, some 30 minutes ago neither that nor galaxy worked.

GOG Galaxy experimenting with in-app purchases: https://www.pcgamer.com/gog-galaxy-is-letting-testers-buy-epic-exclusives-directly-from-the-app/

GOG Galaxy is letting testers buy Epic exclusives directly from the app
There are some new arrivals in the store.

GOG Galaxy is already an immensely convenient platform, weaving together disparate stores and their libraries into one big game cupboard. You can download and launch your games from GOG Galaxy, and it even tracks your time played and achievements. From today, at least for some testers, it also lets you buy games from other stores.

Until now, the GOG Galaxy store tab has only included GOG's catalogue of games, but testers will now see hand-picked Epic Game Store exclusives as well, including The Outer Worlds, Mortal Shell, Maneater and MechWarrior 5.

Along with the convenience not needing to bounce between stores, buying the game on GOG Galaxy also makes you eligible for GOG's considerably more generous refund policy. On the Epic Games Store, you have 14 days to request a refund, and you're only eligible if you've played less than two hours. On GOG, however, it's a 30-day policy, regardless of how much you've played.

Invites have been sent out, so check your inbox, but more users will be brought in as the test continues. More games and features will be added to the store, too, and presumably GOG wants to do this for all the platforms it supports, though there's no word on when or even if the likes of Steam and Origin will join the party.

Annoying thing I found during my testing with Galaxy 2.0 was that even for DRM free games on Epic like Outer Worlds and Control GOG insisted on launching the Epic client, despite it not being needed.

If you don't mind some work you can directly connect the executables to Galaxy. (I guess GOG technically can make it automated for actual DRM-free games but probably Epic, as a partner, won't like it.)
