I've watched a bunch of different channels over the years (for RPGs specifically) and I can say the only person I enjoyed was Nocturnal Rambler. I saw he had a website where he covered more than just Piranha Bytes and he's definitely by far the best I've encountered. Is there anyone else similar someone can recommend? Written works/websites would be much better than videos I think. I like crpg addict but there's 30+ years of games after what he covers.

After him, it's really just hit or miss. I liked MandaloreGaming's Gothic video but there isn't much else on the channel, and LoreRunner very rarely has a good video. Other than them, everyone else I've watched I just can't stand. Watching Joseph Anderson spend 4 hours on a Witcher video and still get stuff wrong/say stupid shit was jarring, Chris Davis is a retarded faggot, Noah Caldwell doesn't jive with me, etc.

Michael Snow? He has an epic video for Conan Exiles where he muses on Conan as an IP and character and it's great. Also he can be annoying in certain respects, but icycalm's website culture.vg is interesting but he becomes gay and makes you pay for a number of things. Still, there are plenty of free articles that are interesting. His take on multiplayer where he calls out min-maxing retards is great and he has a great article on art games when it was synonymous with garbage. He is one of the few I have seen who truly get philosophical about games in a very deep and interesting way. He references Nietzsche and other philosophers pretty frequently.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I also recommend Michael Snow. Even his LPs are fun since he is usually very enthusiastic about what he plays and sits on tons of knowledge. He seems very down to earth too.

I also like mynameisnotlilly. Great LPs. Especially his Fallout 1 blind one, when he makes the most miserable character ever.

I liked mynameisnotlily's Baldur's Gate's playthroughs. He played bg2 at 640x480.
These are the best kinds of channels. No bullshit, no stupid unfunny cut ins or personality cult..no stream chat. Extra points for playing BG the only right way.
The dude put a lot of his personality in the channel, but he was entertaining enough. I managed to subscribe before he retired -- getting a gf and a better job were mentioned as the reasons why he was going to quit. He must've been in his 30s back then, possibly 40s. I hope he's doing fine.

Gmanlives is back to shilling for big companies I see.
Also, check out the top comment on the video!

I've been watching him for years and he mostly shills for one big company. Bethesda. It's rather easy to see why, there was a point where he "made it", he got invited to some early viewings, drank some beer with Bethesda devs — he freely admitted as much in his videos. Since then the shilling has been shameless, he even defended Fallout 76. Lately in his Quake II Remaster review he described a function called "the compass" — which literally paints a line of glowing arrows on the floor pointing where you have to go next — as one of the coolest additions. No sane person would ever do that. It's like he's reading a press release written by the company itself. He's lapping like a dog at the meager attention the big corpo gives him. Sad really.

i may sound like a bitter old dude but I think its impossible for people to make content I can enjoy anymore. 90% of people want views or money so they're forced to emulate the obnoxious streamers and people who are popular. Really can't blame em I guess but it would be cool if someone made a channel now where they didn't care and played games in the old LP style. Its a good thing mynameisnotlily's retired when he did.

There was one channel I use to watch over a decade ago with some girl playing Heroes of Might and Magic, believe her name was Boardgamergirl. Very small channel but nice vids of games like Xcom and 90s adventure stuff. Sadly I think she went the twitch route.

my short experience with FOnline2 was quite intense in this fictional, ruthless world
then you find comfort in shoveling braming crap
feels like average job in 3rd world country like european Mexico...

The fake reactions drive me up a wall. This especially when it's some zoomer doing a high pitched screeching or that ear-bleeding fake laugh they love doing.

Let's be real though, in High School I watched stuff like Nintendocaprisun and ProtonjonSA. I rewatched some of their old videos a few months ago for old time's sake and found them irritating in their own way.

The only LP channel that aged gracefully from my teens are The Freelance Astronauts, their videos still hold up. Sadly, they retired years ago.

The first channel I remember following, and in fact the first "let's play" channel I watched was deceased crab's.

He plays odd games, to say the least. I think I learned of LaMulana through him.

- DeceasedCrab (First video 16 years ago, still active)
- L0rdVega (First video 16 years ago, last video 10 years ago)
- UltraJman (First video around the same timeframe, went crazy and deleted his channel. Last I checked he streams for grand total of 8 people in Twitch occasionally)
- MikeNnemonic (First video 14 years ago, last real video 11 years ago and some random videos after that)

I don't think I could watch any of their videos now without massive cringe, but sometimes I wonder what are they doing right now and if they are even alive.

The Freelance Astronauts I believe were the second ever LP group behind Slowbeef and Diabetus.

They disbanded, officially, in 2015, though their uploads had come to a halt by 2013 outside of a few special, hours-long streams. They still have minor presence on Social Media though.

Maxwell_Adams I guess is a typical 9-5 office worker.
Ferr went on to do sketch comedy
Pipes I guess is an artist for some company
Evek is a school teacher.

So I guess they're doing alright. I know Slowbeef also got his MBA but have no idea what he does now.

i have a new rule:
any video that has a fucking wojack or chad face or whatever dumbass reddit meme is trending in the thumbnail is a video that i will never watch
actually it's worked out as a nice filter
