Well there is a Switch port. Plus you understand your failings which is a good and necessary first step to self improvement. So get any used old potato pc and you'll be able to run 99% of the good games, posting in the relevant threads for technical help. This is a good enough start.

Thanks, didn't even know the Switch port existed either. In the future I'll definitely have to look into getting the Switch, or maybe the Steam Deck? Though like you said any old potato PC will be better/do the job with the classics.

The Steam Deck is good for the opposite thing, playing all the older console games through emulation. For keyboard/kb+m centric games like most of the classics you'd be better served by an old PC, yes.

The shown footage of the remake makes it look even jankier than the original. The combat animations look really stiff and floaty plus there's a weird camera shake with every hit.

I really hope this demo isn't as awful as the first one.

And why are you posting on an internet forum instead of rectifying that mistake?
Because I'm a console pleb and never played games on PC. I don't even own one anymore either. Even if I did I would be too lazy and too much of an noob with computers to probably get something like Gothic running properly sadly. I know it isn't exactly hard to do as you just follow the guides etc. In all I guess I'm sorry for not being some PC gamer who has been on this site for many years.
Do you have a Switch? Gothic 1 and 2 are on there. I bought them on a sale. They're pretty good.

Before publishing a demo you have to send it to dozens of 'gaming journalists' to make sure it's received well?

Okay, fuck this project, and fuck everybody related by work, blood or shilling, it's certainly complete shit.

Thanks,
Sherry

They even copy paste'd the way that he walked in the original. That's bizarre, but also tells me that the criticism of the first demo made some suit scream ''JUST COPY EVERYTHING FROM THE ORIGINAL!''.

Step into the Colony with the Gothic Remake – Nyras Prologue at Steam Next Fest

Barcelona, Spain / Vienna, Austria, February 24th, 2025:
Today, THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive are thrilled to invite players into the brutal world of Gothic 1 Remake with a standalone experience: Nyras Prologue. Launching as part of Steam Next Fest (February 24 – March 3), this special demo is a unique introduction to the unforgiving world of Gothic.

Download the assets: https://thqn.net/g1r-media

A Different Perspective: Play as Nyras
In this self-contained prologue, players won’t step into the shoes of the Nameless Hero just yet. Instead, they will experience the Colony through the eyes of Nyras, a newly convicted prisoner struggling to survive in a ruthless environment where danger lurks around every corner.

What to Expect
Nyras Prologue offers an early glimpse at the world, mechanics, and atmosphere of the full remake, built in Unreal Engine 5. However, it is important to note that this experience does not feature the intended progression, freedom, simulation, and immersion that the full game will provide. Instead, it takes place in a small section of the world with a limited set of mechanics, designed to give players a first impression of the remake’s visuals and combat.

Key Details:
  • The prologue is a standalone experience with approximately one hour of gameplay.
  • Players will not take on the role of the Nameless Hero but instead play as Nyras, a convict trying to survive in the Colony.
  • The prologue features challenging combat and an immersive world, but it is not representative of the full game’s depth and freedom.
  • Built in Unreal Engine 5, it offers a first look at the rebuilt environments and updated visuals of Gothic 1 Remake.
  • The Demo includes a unique achievement that is required for completing all achievements for Gothic 1 Remake on Steam.
  • FAQ for the Nyras Demo
  • Feedback form

I played for roughly 20 minutes now, at 4k resolution - had to change the settings to High to get 70fps. If I put the graphic settings preset at Gothic tier it doesn't go above 33fps. I have a 7800X3D, a 4080 Super, 32GB of RAM and playing it on an SSD, FWIW.

I checked on my old PC and the demo is playable on minimum settings 1280x800 with about 25-30 FPS on
i3-4350
8 GB RAM
GTX 1060 3GB

The only problem is that VRAM is lacking so it looks terrible, but it's still playable.
