They are both really really shit. G3 is the best by far, but still really really shit. I love their worlds, I love in G2 you have a few better than average quests, better than usual RPG characters. Gothic 3's world is really big and I like that you pick sides between humans or orcs depending on who you prefer, and then you eradicate entire villages of the one you turned against. But the gameplay is really really shit. Having a decent story / characters / environment etc, is all worth nothing when the gameplay is so terrible. Don't play either game unless you think the combat in Witcher 3 is the best thing ever. If you think Witcher 3 had teh orsumest combats evar and Dark Souls is teh bestest rpg of all times, then yeah you might like Gothic as well. But you would probably also enjoy any game ever made.
Otherwise get Two Worlds instead and anyone who disagrees with any of this is braindead.
This guy explains it pretty well
Nothing original? He made a complete video series, starting with praise for Gothic 1 & 2, just to encapsulate how much of a disaster Gothic 3 was in comparison.Nothing original here, just shitting on something to grab attention...

It actually isn't bad, it just shows what piranha was going for. Gothic 3 is far more open in its questline and world than both Gothic 1 & 2. You can easily skip everything and immediately go to the specific characters needed for the major quest, they'll even react to your actions if you've done shit in the world beforehand. It's a good set up for an open world game because it has mystery and it encourages exploration. This doesn't sound good at all. How generic and banal must your quest line be to make this possible?

Fallout New Vegas. Please show me better post G3 open world rpg.
How could you even like Gothic 2? It is a terrible game... It is neither an action game or an RPG. Worst combat ever. Worst character building ever. Ever try playing as a mage in that game? You have 1 spell for the entire game and then get 10 new spells in the last half hour. I guess when you have zero standards and like everything, you just can't see this stuff?newfag here is shitting on Gothic 2? You should be banned already.
Fallout New Vegas.
I have played a mage in the game. it's nothing like you mentioned. How could you even like Gothic 2? It is a terrible game... It is neither an action game or an RPG. Worst combat ever. Everything. G3 has the worst combat in any game ever, and all you do is travel the world fighting stuff. I don't get why people defend shit like that. Maybe it is less bad as a melee but as a mage it is the worst piece of shit I ever played. Please show me better post G3 open world rpg.

You asked for a better post G3 open world RPG and i gave you one. By laughing, are you insinuating that Gothic 3 is a better game than New Vegas?Fallout New Vegas.
I thought so.

Not technically on RPG but with good RPG elements: The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. You asked for a better post G3 open world RPG and i gave you one. By laughing, are you insinuating that Gothic 3 is a better game than New Vegas?
I beg your pardon. Just forgot to add "New Vegas" in my post and had feeling that somebody will mention it.
Any other better post Gothic 3 (3d, fantasy, action, open world) rpg's ?
Says the G2 fan. Tell me why you like it, or at least claim to like it.anvi farming hard for a dumbfuck and possibly retarded tag.
Video pretty much sums up more or less why i liked it. I'll be honest with you, first time i played Gothic 2 was more than a decade ago around the time it came out, and i had the same opinion as you, i thought it was one of the worst games i ever played, no mouse support, clunky controls, clunky combat etc. But then i came back to it again 3-4 years ago after seeing it on the top of the list of the Codex top 70 and decided to give it another go. It took some time to adjust to the jarring controls but once i did i found the combat in the game to be immensely satisfying: brutal, quick and very unforgiving. The feeling of level progression is unmatched, you start as a weak pos that can't kill anything to gradually becoming one of the best warriors in the land. Even when you do get to the endgame, combat is still pretty tough and you have to pay attention and not make mistakes. Hand placed loot gives a nice feeling of exploration, discovery and reward. Good itemization. I agree also that magic is crap in both G1 & G2, it's more or less glorified archery. As far as world design and story i'l let the video explain the rest. Overall, Gothic 2 is a very satisfying RPG experience, though it can be very frustrating until you get used to the controls and get gud at combat. I consider it to be a hard core cRPG due to it's combat difficulty especially if you play with the expansion NotR (Night of the Raven), so, if you see yourself as a hardcore cRPG player than it is a must play. If you still find it too difficult than play without NotR. Anyways, to end this already long ass wall of text, my point is, it went from being what i thought was one of the worst games i ever played to pretty much my favourite all time RPG, you just have to push yourself through the rough beginning and get used to those controls. And if you still don't like it than there is nothing else i can say that will convince you otherwise.Says the G2 fan. Tell me why you like it, or at least claim to like it.
It's one of the greatest open world rpgs of all time. It aged well and you're a shitposter that is possibly retarded.Says the G2 fan. Tell me why you like it, or at least claim to like it.anvi farming hard for a dumbfuck and possibly retarded tag.
I liked the premise of G1 more than G2 but as a game I enjoyed G2 way more thanks to all the little improvements they made like backstepping counting as a block, way more content, and harder difficulty. This thread is missing the most important point: the best Gothic is clearly Gothic 1.
