I love the pirate music for that area, favourite track in the game.
I know Gothic 3 disappointed a lot
Gunpowder largely predates the time period typically mimicked in medieval RPG settings, there was never anything wrong with it, we just tend to unconsciously (and erroneously) dissociate it with the era. Technological stagnation makes sense when magic is available, at least with the early fantasy settings that everyone has been copying for the past decades, but some works including them are completely justified.

Where does the dislike for gunpowder come from? Because Tolkien didn't have it so it feels non-canon, like you said? Because people associate it with "modern" and therefore detrimental to escapism?
In the German The Dark Eye, gunpowder doesn't really exist and fans are quite adamant about it, which leads to rather unbelievable mechanical devices filling that role.
I like how Gorn, after having spent years in the mining colony (long before the orcish occupation of Myrtana), and without any association with the King's Paladins, instantly leads you to the secret hideout of the resistance.
In my opinion, no community patch can really bring the game back to the heights of G1+2, because the game's fundamental issues went beyond the unfinished state it was released in.I know Gothic 3 disappointed a lot of people from what I've read, but I also saw that for some who tried the game with the community patch first they liked it. I I'm a sucker for well made worlds though so I'm probably gonna love it anyway, and I want to complete the story.
(Forgot to mention that I did play it for a few hours some time ago but everyone knows you can't judge a Gothic game that fast.)

It's still basically a Gothic game, but even with the patch still falls short of the series' heights.
So I just reinstalled Gothic. Only Player Kit, System Kit, and the new render. No texture upgrades.
I have an issue, though. It's VSync. Is it possible to enable it? The tearing is driving me nuts.
And I still can't find some controls I'm comfortable with. I would kill for a mouse to control the camera and left-click as Action button, mostly the former as I feel the camera doesn't help a lot of times.
You can control the camera / turn around with the mouse. Leftklick works as well, kinda. You only have to hold leftklick and you need to press a second key (w) to take an action.
