The best games are a love or hate relationship, so that is good.

Now after uninstalling and installing again, I have the 1.2.0.5 version. And now I have ZERO encounters and ZERO fruit in the bushes :hmmm:

First time I've ever seen this reported. You sure you didn't set ENCOUNTERS to Never?

Nope.

Someone who had that said exiting the game and restarting it cleared this up. But looks like Cleve really broke something with encounters earlier, needs to use the test branch to release patches to a limited audience first imo.

I still had apples in the bushes, but I seem to be missing the SET encounters rather than random. None of the weed attacks in the various corners of the briar patch were there in my new start game. And with encounters set to Rare, I didn't hit a single random encounter until reaching the stairs to second level of Shrine. That was literally my first combat of the whole game.

It's fine if randos are reduced, we can control that with the frequency setting. But all the set encounters missing is very troubling.

Looks like this "No encounters" or "no set encounters" issue is being reported by many people on the Steam bug threads. Seems like it effects only NEW SAVES, so if you booted up an old save after reinstalling you could play like normal since apparently the encounters are baked into the save game. Although I can't confirm this myself since I'm at work.

The game is still not auto-updating on my end.

Never knew a dev could update the depots without them being automatically pushed to end users. Hidden feature or Cleve being really bad with modern tech?

Until he protects the character library, this is probably a good thing. It's not preserved like saves when you uninstall so you have e to back it up yourself before updating.

Okay, I caught up but still confused - what version should I have? Currently the .exe says 1.2.0.1

Maybe the issue isn't Windows- maybe it's 32 bit vs. 64 bit? Since Windows 7 has both a 32 bit version (x86) and a 64 bit version, and these errors sound like bit errors.

Those that are getting bugs, are you running on a 32 bit OS or 64 bit OS?

Maybe we should do this as a poll

UPDATE: Poll is up

1.2.0.5

Then I guess I've got a problem. Steam isn't auto-updating.

You'll have to uninstall/reinstall manually. Auto-update hasn't worked since launch. If you have a character library go ahead and back it up (the file is: RPG100.LIB). Save games should be unharmed but you may want to back those up too just in case.

I was motivated enough to give the superdemo a spin and yep I'm still unable to navigate grid-based blobbers without getting disoriented and needing to pop open the map with every movement (which is annoying since the button's all the way up on the top). :negative: Guess I'll have to stick with admiring Grimoire from afar.

If there does in fact wind up being a turn based blobber resurgence similar to the isometric one, I suspect people will point to Bard's Tale as the game that is responsible regardless of how it turns out.

Blobbers never totally cycled out of the market. They moved overseas, like the Wizardry series in Japan - and to handhelds. The Etrian Odyssey series is a great example. Though now the dungeon crawler has become tainted with the Japanese aesthetic. I am not particular to anime and weeaboo cutesy art - except in a few rare exceptions.
