nobody fucking cares how often you save scumm. the feature is for people who like rpgs. deaths with 0 consequences so you can steamroll the game without having to reload and feel guilty about reloading are retarded. as is anyone who argues for instead of against such crap.

The consequence is that you're using up a resource. It should be possible to run out of that resource. :M

although a more subtle approach may be preferable to gimping the character that dies too often. like loosing fate in your team mates and having less and less fellowship until you quit the party. would give some depth to the experience and a reason to recruit npcs later rather than sooner.
as it is the consequence of death doesn't make sense from a roleplaying perspective where some poor shmuck keeps dieing due to party leader's retarded choices and even though he grows ever weaker doesn't get tired or fed up with the party leader.

Cleve says he isn't changing the savegame system, but one gets the feeling he is really tempted...

I knew only a few years after designing the savegame storage that a text format of XML/JSON/INI made so much more sense than a fixed binary but there was always something more important to work on and frankly, since it worked, it seemed like just another unnecessary refactoring to change something that was working well.

Now, I'd like nothing better than every single piece of game data to be in a JSON fragment in a NoSQL dbase like SQLite with JSON extensions. But there are far more important things to work on right now like making sure the game is stable so why introduce a new savegame format that I would have to then support both old binary and new format savegames?

You have the right idea because once it was in that format, writing a repair/upgrade utility is much easier to implement. At present even though I know where the conflict lies, it seems like it would be creating more problems to introduce a new savegame format right now.

I have to make sure the game is 99.9% stable and the scaling fullscreen works on all machines.

1685 owners so far. Taking into account regional pricing and Steam's 30% cut I guess we could say that Cleve has made about $40k of net income so far.

Not bad at all.

Guess there really is a market for shitty Wiz 7 clones. How long till other indie devs hop on the train?

I would be very happy if they all would be as shit as Grimoire.

I heard that IndieGogo backer Steam keys are going out now.

I registered a Steam account a few months ago for the sole purpose of getting my Grimoire keys. It's registered with the same email address that I have with IndieGogo.

Will I be able to get the Steam keys, or is there some magic button that I have to click to link my Steam account to my IndieGogo one?

So I didn't realize that everytime you resurrect a character they losel ike 10 con. So my wolf guy has died 8 times (shows in char screen) and hehas 13 con now.

Most of my guys have low con now, failed run? this is fucked up lol
pointless mechanics like permanently losing con upon resurrect necessitating a load and rendering the resurrect spell useless are cool

This wouldn't affect me at all since I'd always reload after a death (unless we're talking near endgame where it doesn't matter as much), but yeah, this mechanic does the opposite of what you want it to do (discourage reloading after a death).
cleve =/= sawyer

It should be a scroll/NPC-exclusive spell. :M

I'm not advocating for any kind of Sawyerfication/modernization of Grimoire but it seems odd to me that there's a resurrection mechanic that most people who know what it does would never use. I've read that there are two different spells, does the second one not have the penalty like in D&D? In that case, there's no problem.

Who has the lastest version that didn't break save games that could upload? Mine is the from first update Cleve did.

who are these people that play grimoire but never heard of consequences for dieing? and why do you speak for them?
edit: and yeah, that's a real consequence spending some gold to resurrect at a temple. and it makes so much fucking sense for the temple cleric to be able to resurrect your guys but your own cleric not. same goes for whoever wrote the scrolls.
this is really typical for sawyerism to put common sense on second place after balance. it's also the main reason for all moronic design decisions in poe. as a party leader i can't order my party to lay down and rest because balance. i can't carry more than 2 bags of food with fucking 6 people, but i can carry 100 swords, shields, armors... because balance.
are you starting to understand? of course not. if the years spent here taught you nothing yet, what chance do i have?

I watched some gameplay videos, Cleve. Not many frames of animation. Spell animations are underwhelming on DD spells, but maybe that is because player is low level. Worms look like placeholder art. Otherwise, total incline. I can deal with the graphix if the game is this much addictive fun. I think armor slots should light up to show which slot an item is placed in. Cannot tell what the different attacks do - right-click for pop-up help tips would not go amiss. This game needs a manual. Also, spells should last longer - Witcher is a good example of an alchemy system where potions are useful. Most games make potions and buffs useless because you have to cast them every few seconds - it is a poor design decision, where all the devs have jumped on board and played "follow the leader" off a cliff. Potions and buffs should be every bit as effective as your last "sleep" malediction on the enemy. Not of inferior spell-stock. Also, is there any way to tell if there is a debuff on an enemy? I couldn't tell from the gameplay videos, as I watched them on a mobile. Wiz 8 did this by putting icons above enemy heads.

As an aside, does anyone find it mildly unrealistic that a party of eight adventures can barely slaughter bugs, but the second they come across three bandits, all eight adventurers die? Jussayin.

I don't understand why but Drog got a free copy lol, probably so he could make a negative review on steam.
Just for the record, I've already left a positive review. Don't want to shit on one man's labor of love, even if it's Cleve's. That would be too low and utterly unfit for the gentleman that I aspire to be.

You have over 600 games on steam and only two of them you played for longer than 40 hours?

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

So my char has those conditions locked for a while. Even if I sleep, nothing changes, so he is paralyzed forever. Bug or need to use some magic to fix that?

I think these are side effects of disease. I've had this happen to me as well.

This brings some fond memories of W7. My first playthrough ever, when I hadn't had the foggiest what was going on, at one point this little yellow face appeared next to my character's portrait. I had no idea what it is but it progressively changed into nausea, blindness, insanity, petrify and death. I concluded my char was diseased. But in W7 you could buy a Cure Disease scroll (the spell itself was very high-level iirc so you went without it for half the game).
