Have any of the builds of Duke Nukem Forever ever leaked?

demo soon

The Duke's model looking fine. But judging solely by gameplay, this is the kind of game i wouldn't give a shit that it's been cancelled. A game where you shoot a bunch of animals with entire Duke arsenal like retarded redneck from South Park doesn't look like something i would wanna play.

Yes, there's already Redneck Deer Huntin' for that:

Maybe Duke didn't want to fall back behind his Build Engine cousins.

A review of the release that's supposed to come later today. The public build is going to have more bug fixes and additions.

Gore looks great and gameplay looks already 100 times more fun than DNF 2011. And that's just my impressions after watching the video above.

I really hope this shit gets finished and as the guy in the video mentioned Randy and Gaybox need to stay the fuck away and let it happen.

I played it for an hour. It's pretty cool other than some pacing issues and an overall lack of polish, but I heard they still plan to go back and improve these early levels even as they work on the rest of the game. The Duke voice actor does an excellent impression of Jon St. John, I'd probably only be able to tell the difference if I listened to them side by side.

The game forces mouse acceleration and automatically enables Windows' enhanced pointer precision setting (like a lot of old games do). You can fix both of those issues with the MarkC mouse acceleration fix. If you're on Windows 11 just use the Windows 10 settings: http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.com/2010/03/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix.html

I don't know the background but one of the developers said the team had some creative differences. Doesn't seem like a big deal though. I've been following their restoration twitch streams and they seem like a normal bunch, no SJW agenda.

Finished playing the first slice.

I think when it is all done and finished, people will finally realize that DNF 2011 wasn't so bad. Everything in there so far is far worse than the final game.

The problem with DNF as I see it is that there has never been a clear idea of the story they wanted to tell. We have already fought Dr Proton, fought the Aliens on their world and at home so what original story should be pursued in the fourth and greatest game?

The only new idea in DNF is of Duke as a famous casino owner in Vegas and an end battle at the Hoover Dam. In the 2001 build the idea seems to be that the Aliens use infiltration to get at Duke since the fullscale invasion failed in 3d. However in the 2011 build they went with fullscale invasion anyway and then Dr Proton returned in the DLC. The infiltration scheme seem like a more interesting idea to me. However I would have preferred an entirely new enemy since the Aliens got their assess handed to them in 3d.

You should probably start with an idea of what you want to do before starting development. That's my point.

Wasn't there some leaked design document from ages ago? IIRC it contained stuff that was cut from the 2011 release and was supposed to be what the full game was about.

It changed multiple times during development, but the 2011 version was 3D Realms' latest iteration of the story other than some stuff that Gearbox cut out. Before that it was going to be about Dr. Proton, the antagonist of Duke Nukem 1, returning to get revenge, and a recurring boss would be a clone he created called Negaduke. Some of those plot elements were used for the Dr. Who Cloned Me DLC.

Better than 2011 easily, but still inferior to Unreal or Half-Life.

I am legitimate "curious" about what you feel is "better" in that build.

The gunplay is atrocious.
Enemy placement is absolutely random and overkill in some places.
The level design, while being more open ended in some cases, involves a lot of unnecessary backtracking and lack of instructions can make it confusing to navigate.

The issue of DNF 2011 was that it was mediocre and that it never did better than what the competition did, but it was, once patched, competently made. This is not the case in the "first slice" that is released. It will take a lot more than debugging the scripts to turn even that first slice into a good game. It needs to be reworked thoroughly.

I like gunplay, guns feel powerful and chunky. DNF 2011's guns looked and felt like plastic toys, tbh whole game looked like a plastic toy.

The level design is somewhat confusing because the game is unfinished. Various navigational cues (like signs, specific light sources leading player to an open door, etc) are usually being placed during and after a few bouts of playtesting.

My point is that it has all been crap. The greatest shooter of all time, DNF, should have a great story as well as great gameplay of course. Fighting off yet another alien invasion from the same species or fighting Dr Proton again is boring.

I don't know man, Legend of Zelda or Super Mario uses same enemies / similiar events in their franchises but they are still fun. I don't give a damn about story. I can enjoy ten sequels about aliens abducting hot babes so you have to kick ass; as long as they have good level design, enemy variation and satisfying weapons.

Just imagine if crowd funding existed when 3drealms was making this game. Haha.

It would be pocket change. They still had tens of millions of dollars from Duke3D sales, in addition to millions in funding from Take-Two. At one point 3D Realms claimed they'd self funded the game for something like $20 million.
