So I tried playing Hero's Chronicles the other day - but apparently my new monitor breaks all HoMM games - I get ddraw errors. Looked online - and the only solution for non-base game seems to be to try to use wrappers like dgVoodoo. But... while it doesn't freeze immediately with that tool - it still does so within a few minutes. So I'm not sure if I'm configuring the settings within dgVoodoo incorrectly or what's up.

Anyone dealt with this before?

Not with Chronicles but with Heroes II, and both for that and the resolution issues of III/Chronicles these HoMM specific wrappers worked nicely so hopefully they'll fix your problem as well.

With the HD Mod you can run the Heroes Chronicles as Custom Campaigns, as detailed here.
That should fix the problems and also run much smoother than if using dgVoodoo.
