Just ditch JRPG and put more enfasis on oldskool RPGs and voila: You have lists that put Diablo 2 ,Arcanum, BG2 and Bloodlines together( 4 different subgenres)!Kodex Public Opinion share the same traits, putting KoTC and DA:O in the same competition(and KoTC losing )

Mass Effect 2 actually managed to provide a thoroughly engaging RPG experience that ultimately succeeded at not looking like, feeling like, or playing like an RPG, quite the feat (ask any developer!). In fact, its now established presentation of Paragon and Renegade have become the de facto shorthand for discussing character alignment in this generation of gaming.

One could say that Mass Effect 2 is average when considering it solely as an RPG, but then conversely the same is true when looking at it as only a third-person shooter. Considering it for what it is, a story-driven action RPG shooter, it's one of the strongest expressions of an intergenre release in the modern era.

I see what's going on with this list, IGN is going to fill it with Wapanese shit, action games with almost no RPG elements at all, & popamole shooters but then they'll occasionally put on that well known CRPG just to say "hey, we aren't as much of a massive decline as you know". Okay, you aren't automatically knowledgeable just for sticking Ultima VII on there (at #53(!) of all things). Until I see Realms of Arkania, Geneforge, Avernum, Knights of the Chalice, Gothic II, Daggerfall, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Darklands, etc. on there, its complete bullshit.

No stats, no equipment, no C&C. But it has items and alchemy, so this probably makes it a RPG...
