Fuck it, keep fucking dead things dead. Isn't it enough to rape game franchises, now we have to rape company names too?

Oh, yeah, the brand new low budget skyrim wannabe from the legendary Black Isle, now with more washed out veterans and newfag SJW narrative designers than ever!

"inXile, you too?" #2 -

New job posting for Lead Software Engineer to be working on "a PC-focused multiplayer", "live service title" with "large shared-world": https://www.inxile-entertainment.com/lead-software-engineer

Lead Software Engineer
Location: Newport Beach, CA
inXile entertainment is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Lead Software Engineer to join the our team on an exciting unannounced project. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in making networked multiplayer games, while providing technical mentorship and guidance for a team of engineers that supports a live service title.

Responsibilities:
  • Guide the development of a PC-focused multiplayer title.
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers.
  • Provide guidance for gameplay mechanics, large shared-world optimizations, and client/server interaction security.
  • Work with production staff and other leads to establish engineering tasks and manage schedule requirements.
  • Review completed engineering tasks in collaboration with the production staff and other leads.
  • Overseeing the ongoing development and maintenance of a live service title
Requirements:
  • Extensive familiarity with Unreal Engine 4.
  • Strong, proven C++ and C# skills.
  • Database utilization experience for user data in MongoDB/SQL/Cosmos.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in programming software.
  • Previous leadership and management experience
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with artists, designers, and other engineers.
  • High comfort level extending and improving an established code base.
Pluses:
  • Previous experience supporting and shipping AAA game titles.
  • Experience supporting a live service.
  • Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related degree.

So much for "more energy to focus on creativity rather than worrying about things like monetisation."

Well yeah, they've been working on Wasteland: Frost Point, a VR battle royal, or open world survival, or whatever that is, for a while. But it's supposed to be released this year, and this one sounds like early in development. Then again, yeah, who knows, maybe they're looking for a person to lead the post-release live team ("extending and improving an established code base" and all that).

Eh, don't tell me this is the "next generation RPG" by Chad Moore and Jason Anderson. (The wording is clearly different with the Lead Designer job posting for their team. 'AAA game for consoles' vs. 'PC-focused multiplayer')

I'm extremely pessimistic about anything inXile. Games are team efforts and inXile have yet to prove themselves capable of delivering a great RPG worthy of names like Torment, Arcanum and the like. Torment had shorts glimpses of greatness under Ziets (in that weird goo-place), and I've heard BT4 had a few qualities mid/late-game too. WL2 was generally crappy and felt like a prototype game. But there's nothing so far that has inspired confidence enough to hype up a rumor like this. They need to ditch Unity too.
There is no need to be great rpg,a decent one will do the job at this point. They do keep on delivering garbage ones,or mediocre at best. Wastetime2 was terrible,Numanuma was chore with all that reading and BT was ok but fucked by shitty release.

I don't see Matt Findley, who apparently is now NO studio chief. Maybe he's the one holding the camera in the NO photo.

Had the same thoughts. I'll give them some sympathy points for that.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Soooo...ummm...where's Wasteland 3? I backed it, and I haven't been paying attention to InXile. At all. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

Lack of pink or blue hair in both studios is even more impressive. Is that trend already dying out?
I dunno, but the women in Obsidian group photos always looked normal to me with a few exceptions. inXile's always been ~95% male.

Fargo did it again: https://armorgamesstudios.com/news/don't-escape-4-days-in-a-wasteland-gets-a-new-title/

Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland Gets a New Title
Learn more about the decision to rename to Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive here.

Today we wanted to share that we are renaming our recently released PC title Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland to a new permanent title, Don’t Escape: 4 Days to Survive. While we are in the process of changing the name, logos, and graphics on various storefronts, we also wanted to give a little insight into why this name-change is occurring. Please note that this change will be rolling out across all platforms and storefronts beginning today and may take some time to be properly reflected

A few days ago we got a message from the folks at inXile, a studio that has worked on several amazing titles (The Bard’s Tale, Wasteland 2) and who is now working on Wasteland 3. Armor Games Studios knows inXile well since our companies are minutes from each other. We have a relationship dating back to the early Flash days. “Wasteland” is a trademark they own and are actively building a game for, which is why they brought up their concern about Don’t Escape: 4 Days in a Wasteland causing brand confusion.

While our games are very different (Don’t Escape is a pixelated, 2D, point-and-click survival game) we completely understood why they brought up their trademark. Here in the US our trademark law requires holders to actively defend their trademarks. Often this defense comes from a lawyer with a sternly written cease-and-desist letter, or worse, through direct litigation without ever picking up the phone. But inXile did the friendly thing by reaching out directly, having a quick chat, and being super-nice about everything. At the end of the day, inXile are game developers, and all the compassion and camaraderie from this community was embedded in how they approached us.

Scriptwelder (the sole developer of the Don’t Escape series) quickly arrived at Don’t Escape: 4 Days to Survive. As the publisher we also felt like it was a natural fit, so we are in the process of changing the name across all the storefronts we sell in.

So go buy our freshly renamed Don’t Escape: 4 Days to Survive on Steam, Kartridge, Humble, and GOG, currently for $14.99. As of this writing, it has 195 positive reviews (99%) on Steam.

The Don’t Escape series is created by Scriptwelder, a solo developer who made the original web game back in June 2013. It found success early on ArmorGames.com, seeing over 1.4m plays and thousands of positive reviews. Following two more web sequels (Don’t Escape 2 and Don’t Escape 3), Scriptwelder pursued a 4+ year development cycle to create Don’t Escape as a brand-new full-fledged PC title, released on March 11, 2019.

May or may not related to this, but inXile filed a new "WASTELAND" trademark in UK: https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00003394647

Owner(s) name
InXile Entertainment, Inc.
251 Little Falls Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808, United States of America

Country of Incorporation
United States of America

Incorporation state
Delaware

Delaware is where Fig is incorporated at, IIRC.
