Where does this Avellone Fetish come from? Only because of PST?
Why is a one hit wonder still refered to as a living god?

One hit in this industry is enough. How many designers even get one ultra revered hit to where their name becomes a household name? Chris doesn't need to do another thing, he's a legendary dev just based off PS:T alone.

It's merited if the hit turns out to be a genre-defining classic.

There are a whole bunch of great novelists who only ever wrote one novel. Arundhati Roy, Emily Brontë, J.D. Salinger... that doesn't in any way lessen their contribution to world literature.
PST was a very great game, but was it really genre-defining?
It just went hardcore in the writingfag corner.
PST isn't well rounded at all just a extreme.
The perfect representation for the whole genre still is Fallout.

Tim Cain has more than one hit. But he is with the evil people now.

It needs to be "genre defining" so Disco can be "evolution of genre defining classic" :D

because he won't actually write/lead a whole game anymore. He has chosen to not make "MCA games" and therefore we don't get the final proof that the man has still got it or hasn't got it.life.
Probably worth remembering that he likely got himself blacklisted from quite a few studios by attacking his (former) boss/coworkers publicly.
Also, despite his constant groveling he still gets shit on regularly by people who find his prior work offensive so he'd likely have to deal with that at some point.

Despite?

Constant groveling -> getting shat upon

Just because somebody made something good in the past doesn't mean that he still can do it.
Also it' s about the combination of people and how they win in arguments about design choices.
Starwars e.g. was saved at the cutting table.
George Lucas can't do anything alone.

He still has massive biceps, though.

Anyway, people are forgetting Kreia, the best thing to have come out of Star Wars.

Kreia being so different than your usual cadre of SW characters is what made her unpopular with some people too.

Until then, he is irrelevant to the world of RPGs. If that's due to health, family, and other such reasons, then I wish him the best and hope he does well in life.

Hell yes. He made Planescape: Torment. He will always be a god to me. As things currently stand, he is a fallen god. That is more cool than any of us poor mortals can ever aspire to.

Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp,
Or what's a heaven for? All is silver-grey,
Placid and perfect with my art: the worse!
I know both what I want and what might gain,
And yet how profitless to know

- Browning, reflecting on Sawyer's failure

KotOR 2, Alpha Protocol, and Dead Money all have great writing and C&C, and he also wrote a bunch of great stuff in games he didn't lead (e.g. Kaelyn in Mask of the Betrayer).

Haven't played Dead Money nor Alpha Protocol. I give you that. Can be good.
But KotoR 2 and NWN 2 are both so dull and boring.
It really just works if you're a writingfag and look over everything that is wrong with them.
