But please, don't dare tell us to stop. We're going to keep dealing business on Kickstarter; honestly and efficiently, and we could care less what critics think.

Tip of the day: When communicating with potential customers, doing PR etc. , saying stuff like that is what you want to avoid.

Please, feel free to cherry pick "arguments" that don't exist.

Cause I'm gonna go back to rolling out FleetCOMM demos and tools, and will stop wasting time with forum cynics.

Thanks for making me realize that :D

Well that's one more game I'm no longer interested in due to the developers being idiots.

One person's made a constructive criticism of your strategy, prefaced with 'I completely understand where you're coming from', and ending with, 'I think you've got yourselves accidentally into a bit of a mess here'. One other person's criticised your choice of words as being needlessly standoffish towards your audience. If my maths is right, that makes two people.

It seems like a bit of an odd reaction to throw up your hands at this tsunami of senseless cynical internet hatred and claim that you're going to stop wasting time talking with potential backers, but hey.

Platform distributors like Desura/Steam/Appstore have royalty payout models that can take UP TO SIX MONTHS for my crew to see any profit. I can't wait that long if I wanna continue operations on FleetCOMM. Sure, we are set to deliver this game on December, but after that? Waiting up to six months in limbo for a paystub is a no-go, and I can't simply tell my crew to "wait for the funds, then we port".
And you guys just thought of that? As a studio lead there was no plan for this? Your business model is based on getting internet welfare while your due pay doesn't arrive? And then get pissed and go away when we point out flaws on it?

:hmmm:

To be honest, I've given up on "building a fan base" before the game is shipped.
...
I could care less about "building a community"

It's shocking to hear words like these from an indie developer in 2012.

The community is your most precious asset, man.

I would highly suggest these guys start a Kickstarter to hire a PR guy. Then again, with how this guy is damaging their reputation the Kickstarter would likely fail.

Of course it is.

But can we build that kind of "community" if the first few posts about our project include the word "scam" or we're greeted by the first few cynics on the forum spaces?

Community goes both ways dude. If you give some, we can give you more.

You don't know the first thing about good PR or about conducting yourself professionally, do you?

Protip: Community building is just as important before the game releases. If you can't convert the cynics, then sod off. It's called cutting your losses. What you're doing is actively damaging your reputation even further. Now people who weren't even in the original debate (like me) are siding against you simply because of the things you're saying.

Whoa, that's news to me.

And here I am giving "get this game, forever!" editions for FleetCOMM.

I too am confused on why a gamedev would pull that kind of career seppuku.
Considering that they got $151,806 with their second Kickstarter seems that not delivering a game is a very smart move, this is precisely the kind of behavior that I don't want to see encouraged, and I think many others here agree with me.
Probably most of the backers are people who backed the first kickstarter and now see supporting the second round as the best chance of getting anything in return for their original. It's an economic action known as "throwing good money after bad".
The rest of the backers are probably just idiots who failed to understand that they're not actually getting a game for their money.

The sad thing is I've talked to people and explained how unreliable those devs have been but they just shrug and say "the game looks cool I want to play it!".

The game DOES look cool. I DO want to play it. As soon as they actually RELEASE something, I'll even pay them money to play it.

Well, they included the game in the second Kickstarter and got 5x the amount. So I guess it helps, especially if people are willing to donate even after you've shown that your operation is a mess. The game looks interesting, but I don't want to support developers who try scams like this, especially since there are plenty of good indie devs out there that could use the money. People need to think about what kind of gaming environment they want.

As for Fleetcomm...they're asking for 4x the amount for the second Kickstarter while upping the price of their game, and making it seem much more DLC-y?

"I made this engine that is more technologically advanced than any engine available on the market all by myself while working a full time job."

Sounds legit.

Damn. The engine looks great, but the developer is being such an incredible twat. It's not the first time I've seen this, why does it happen? Is it because they feel people are attacking their brainchild, which they invested so much love in, as opposed to uncoditionally adoring it like they themselves do? <british accent>Wankers</british accent>.
