Also Goon just made their base target (400k). It's David Fincher FFS!!... and Paul Giamatti.

Edit: By the way, the project lost funding from established studios because of the use of profanities. A reason for any codexian with some taste for animation to support this puppy ...

My thoughts precisely, not sure why this is getting so much buzz

The developer's an editor/owner of RPS, so they've devoted several articles to what is, from all appearances, generic Unity shovelware.
I noticed the bit about him being a journalist of some sort but since I dont read RPS I thought he was just another basement occupying gentleman with a head full of dreams and a beard full of chip crumbs. Oh well.

God there are so many fucking junk projects trying to get Kickstarted with absurd goals. I mean what the fuck. People are so delusional.

It seems to be mostly Brits trying to pull these scams.
And overweight bald Americans.
They're very much the same breed.

Kerberos Productions of Sword of the Stars have an indiegogo flex funding campaign for The Pit, an action RPG that's a roguelike as well. There's also a playable alpha demo to download to get a feel for how the game will play. I played the demo and it's hard as hell: guns are rare as all hell, monsters keep ganging up on you and then running away, sometimes you'll go down a level only to meet 4 security bots with lasers which proceed to make mincemeat out of you :D Lots of skills in the game and apparently you have to roll on whether you'll go up a few points in a given skill. That's right, you can fail to upgrade skills :D

Two guys sitting on a couch want half a milion. More news at eleven.
I will ignore them for now, the project doesn't seem an outright scam nor is fleshed out enough to deserve attention, they are bound to fail anyhow.

omg wtf Kickstarter lol I make a troll puzzle game rofl give me 20 quid lmfao http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/trollologames/trolloluma?ref=category

now where was that lulz & retardo section
In the brown.
Next-gen fighting game is here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bmstudios/zodiac-wars?ref=category

Apparently, the next generation of games relies heavily on big tit armored angels fighting mesopotamian vase salesmen. Who knew.
Lame animation and they don't even have the concept laid out for all the characters, I will ignore them for now.

Interesting concept, only, he's asking for peanuts and the entire project reeks of well intentioned college student fails to deliver overambitious game, and on top of that, I am not sure of what Fallout he's talking about.:hmmm:

Is it just me or are KS projects getting greedier?

SRR and W2 asked for 15$ and you got a copy of the game.
PE asked for 20$.
Now, both Elite and SC ask for $30.

They will probably be selling them at 60$ or $50 in Steam/GOG... But still, $30 is a steep value for me. $15 or $20 seems a fairer value.

True. Bastards. That's why I won't support them, cause I can't afford it. Although I would very much like to play a grand space sim.

Kickstarter is just pulling the greedy people out of the woodwork. I'm a cynical fuck, but I can't help but feel that even the big name ones (Spaceventure, Hero U, Leisure Suit Larry) are doing it with $$ signs in their eyes first and foremost. It's just sad. But again, maybe I'm just too cynical and bitter.

But yeah, the site is full of absolute diarrhea these days. KS needs to start vetting these things; they clearly just allow anything at all to be posted on the site.

That's obvious, besides, there's nothing wrong being passionate about your work and wanting to make money with it, in some case however seems that many projects wouldn't have come about if wouldn't have been for the whole free money without string attached thing.

Actually it has improved from when I first started browsing it if memory serves me well.

Game like Spaceventure, and Leisure Suit Larry needs allot of art, and voice acting isn't free either. I don't see a money grab in making those games for 500k$.

We are talking about different things. One is the project target goal, the other the amount you need to pledge to get a copy of the game.
I wished they were wiser regarding the game copy price because, for most of the projects, they are basing it on good will alone. If you're setting a price tag at 30$ you're just targeting the die hard fans, where with 15$ or $20 you're able to convince more people.
Also, if you want to get the soundtrack as well, you have to put some extra 10$ to 20$ or so. Which I find fucking indecent since it's already present in the game, as it's just another milking of the cash cow.
So... is there any "reward" for believing in them and supporting them?
Of course all of this is relative to your geographic region and paycheck. $30 is nothing for the typical kwan with never ending paper money, and it's not that I can't afford it or anything. But when you add up all of that together (yes, all the KS already backed at higher tiers)... woah nelly!

As a side note, (most of?) Wadjet Eye Games have full voice acting and they sell for 10$. Interesting post on voiced dialog.

On another subject:
Bare Mettle Entertainment said:
Based on what's being discussed on RPS and the many private messages we've received, it seems that many US backers are not pledging due to the foreign currency and the unfamiliar transaction method for UK Kickstarter projects.

After the mess that was SOTS II I refuse to give those guys any money whatsoever. Especially for a flexible funding campaign. Fuck them and their buggy coding ways.

Seems like the recent influx of various KS game projects has taken its toll.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/879484120/antharion?ref=category might still make it, but...

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1438429768/maia?ref=category also struggling to keep the pace

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1473965863/sui-generis?ref=category those guys are f*ed, but thats another story

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/blackchickenstudios/ars-magica-video-game?ref=category beyond hope

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1991838495/unusual-heroes?ref=category not even close

and the biggest letdown for me personally, http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1878147873/hero-u-rogue-to-redemption?ref=category is looking very bleak too. Merde.

Game-wise, seems like the successful KS campaigns are of two kinds
a)shitty 2000 bucks casual mobile retarded quasi games like http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...eamer-ios-and-android-video-game?ref=category
b)Project Eternity, Star Citizen (still no idea how that got funded) etc. - the big beasts equal in scope to publisher-funded projects.

The category most appealing to me these days - anything between a and b - seems to be struggling. I dont give a shite about fach-idiotic devs with zero people skills, fanboy/modder clowns and all the other twats, but there are good looking projects by good people that just arent getting enough attention/funds. What gives?

Yeah, I kind of got overwhelmed with all of these. I really wanted to support more of them, but there are just too many... I still consider that a good thing and I think that just means that these would be devs can come back with something better, but I wish I had sacks of money to throw at them, but alas.

Yeah that is a good point. There ARE many, when all we were stuck with are shitty AAA action games. Now we have many alternatives but man, if only I was a millionaire. :(

On the other hand: Dead State, Xenonauts, MORE, Banner Saga all got funded.

I think there are two problems with this mid-level.

1) They are charging too much for the game itself. Brian Fargo and Tim Schafer, highly respected developers, gave a copy of their game for $15. Unknown dev with a good idea: you should be charging less than them.\

2) It's a lot harder for a small organization to come up with good rewards for higher tiers. They aren't equipped to ship out 10 thousand T-shirts or what have you, so physical goods are a problem. On the other hand, most digital addons either feel insulting (soundtrack), or manipulative (special feat, starting gold, etc).

The MORE team had an interesting idea by offering a discount on future dlc if you upped your pledge, but DRM is a 4 letter word, so that's troublesome too.

Selling in game naming can work (hello Codex Brothel), but it's pretty limited how many of those slots you can give out.

When some one comes with an all digital way to get people to give $30 without pissing people off, while the base game costs $10, you'll see a lot more of the $50-200k projects succeed I think.

Distance might still make it if that 10K pledge goes through, 117,456/125,000, 3 days to go.

They really fucked up on getting the word out early.
