Meanwhile, gay pride projects and RPS controversies aside, just as Maia did in its last two days, Sui Generis is making a substantial push and it looks like it could actually make it.

Yeah, they need just another 15k, which, given what they got during the last two days, it's doable. In the mean time, Forbes' Erik Kain from does an interview on Sui Generis: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/11/28/an-interview-with-sui-generis-developer-madoc-evans/

Another JRPG that looks quite interesting:

A 2D Action-RPG inspired by the SNES era and world culture!

  • A unique real-time combat system that focuses on positioning, chaining abilities, and for the pros, micromanaging secondary character
  • Field map abilities that can be used to help traverse areas
  • Skill System with progression, all characters have unique skills!
  • Interactive environments, lots of places to go and explore
  • Unique puzzles and brainteasers that fit naturally in the game world.
  • A compelling story that will have you controlling different characters throughout the game and witnessing intriguing cut-scenes
  • A plethora of items that can be used to improve battle prowess, general customization, or just sold for cash!
  • A unique party system that allows NPCs to join your party!
  • 6 PLAYABLE cast members (only 2 can be used in battle at one time)

Most expensive tech-demo on Kickstarter yet has been funded. Go figure.

[Cough...cough...ekhem...] At least they have an interesting tech demo, unlike all those beggars with nothing to show...

It is not like I disaprove W2, P:E or other big guns. Hell, I backed them. They are well renowned developers, I liked most of their games and I have a good faith they will succeed. Despite showing nothing but butterflies and flowers.

But to bash new indie devs that the ONLY thing they are showing is quite impressive tech-demo and physics engine is just unfair. Even if they are a bit butthurt.

Meh, I dunno. I don't have anything about Sui Generis or the people who back it, I'm just explaining why I don't. I don't see a game in there, and games are what I want and am interested in.

I got your point. And I agree with it to some extent. Afterall, we want games that we want to play as they used to be.

Maybe it's just me, but I always saw the Kickstarter as a platform for the new indies to step up and show what they have. While kickstarter's been developing I noticed it can serve also for well-known devs to create what they truelly want instead of smithing another boredom. That said, I am still more likely to give the money to the newcommers, even if half of the projects I am interested in will be a mess. In any case I have no time to play all the games I am interested in. It is more like investing in the game industry to search for other models and diversify so it becomes an entity where people can find what they like. Even if it is a niche, we should have a healthy number of devs covering them. Sort of like in the movie market - you have mindless blockbusters, more serious blockbusters, but also intellectual independent movies that are great and unique.

not enough faith in butthurt british developers
fixed that for ya ;)

but seriously, call me a newfag, but I actually like some of the writing I saw there. I read all the updates like an hour ago, because I was considering cancellling my pledge since the guy's such a douche, but I was genuinely excited.

Ask not what your favorite genre can do for you etc. etc.

You have nobler goals than I, mikaelis, I must admit. I just want to play some good fucking games, and KS seems to be able to provide me a chance to. I honestly don't think I would care much if Bethesda, endorsed by Activision and EA in unholy unison, asked for one billion dollars for the most epic turn and stat-based RPG since the dawn of time. I'd donate to that motherfucker and hype the shit out of it.

My visions for the future come second to my desire to play good games. I know, I know, why we can't have nice things and all that.

Haha, it is not my noble goal. If we live in perfect world, my personal goal would be to have enough money to eat oily marinated skinless herrings from potatoland (all those ones in herbs, sundried-tomatoes, pepper, fried-onion, etc.), while drinking red wine from my own grape plantation settled somehere in the godforsaken hills between Saale and Dnieper :).

Plus, playing games from around the world as they come, instead of waiting 1+ year for anything worth noticing.
