40 Euro for Pierre's latest experiment is not what I'd call a bargain. I'll wait for a deeeeeep sale in the future. Not to mention more modules. Augury of Chaos is waaay too high level for my tastes.
What a disapointment , we were all waiting for you to publish your home made module, the setting with castrated paladins, done with kotc2 editor.

Well, I think he's right. You can't launch with a price and then immediately lower it without pissing a lot of people off. Even lowering it later tends to rustle people's jimmies for whatever reason.

No, Steam literally doesn't allow you to change your prices too quickly. Price changes can only be performed with a couple of months distance between each other. This is one of many ways the platform attempts to rein in scammers and other unsavory types who abuse the pricing system for various reasons.

If he wants to change the price, he has to wait.

My game is based on a custom-made engine developed over the course of 13 years. I don’t use RPG Maker at all, so I don’t use RPG Maker scripts at all.

Therefore, the accusation of me stealing ‘scripts’ from anyone is preposterous.

As for the sounds in KotC 2, most of them were created by Nino Rajacic for me, and I have the exclusive rights.

A few other sounds that I am using do require an attribution, and I have done the proper attribution in the Credits screen.

As for character graphics, they were created by Pioneer Valley Games (PVG), and I have purchased from PVG the right to use them in my game.

This person here does not hold a copyright to the artwork created by PVG. PVG is the holder of the rights and PVG’s business is to sell PVG artwork for game developers to use.

So, again, the accusation of me ‘stealing’ PVG artwork is preposterous. PVG artwork is made by PVG for use by many game developers through a non-exclusive licence.

True, but you can't just easily rip RPGMaker plugin scripts and use them in your game. I also don't see any reason why you would. If anybody has proof, it should be super easy to tell unless Pierre did obfuscate his code, in which place I doubt it was found in the first place.

Then again, I don't believe Soul of War is made in RPG Maker either. Just looking at the trailer I don't recognize any telltale signs that it is, unless it is very heavily customized.

Pierre is just as likely to raise the price as he releases more content, and I am not sure KOTC1 ever sees very large discounts, but I don't look all that closely since I own it.

The module scene might not be that robust if the player base doesn't increase from an all time high of 41 people online.

The best way to encourage him to make better pricing decisions is to withhold your money so that he feels the need to make a change, unfortunately Codex fan boys have been encouraging his bad pricing decisions.

Shoving 3e based systems into RPGMaker would take a lot of work (not impossible mind), it's very much beyond the abilities of that retarded asset flipper I suspect.

He's stuck with the current price now for several months. Steam does not allow the changing of price so soon after release, for obvious reasons.

You really can't put any fault for Pierre's sales strategy on anyone at the Codex. The guy didn't want to sell KOTC on a storefront for years because they take a cut. He may be a talented encounter designer, but his business acumen is... unique.

Personally as someone who was kind of interested from the perspective of a game with a toolset to make modules with 3E D&D rules, one glance at the UI, especially for dialogues, was enough to make me nope right out of there. This is not a graphics whore thing, as some people in the thread have implied, it's a basic eye for aesthetics thing. If 20 year old games built in the time when N64 3D was the standard have cleaner looking UI, you have really fugged up.

The weirdest thing is that Pierre claims to be an economic consultant and writes many whitepapers about better business. Judging by his own business decisions, he very much seems to be a know nothing know it all in that field.

JF seems to have gotten through to him about the price, the issue is, as I've previously mentioned, he literally can't change the price on steam now for a few months. (Three possibly? I'm not sure what the exact policy is)

I'm not entirely sure if I did, but I think he realized I have a point. I'll write him another email in a month or two with some evidence to back up my claims of lowering the price being a good idea:

- a bunch of screenshots from the Codex thread where people reacted with "what the fuck that price" on release day
- a bunch of screenshots from other sites where people stated the same sentiment
- Steam pages of other games within the subgenre that have similar (or even higher) production values to KotC2 but are priced much cheaper: Age of Fear series, Telepath Tactics Liberated, Dungeon of Naheulbeuk (MUCH bigger production values but still 5€ cheapter than KotC2 lmao)

My suggestion would be a price of 24.99€, which would be comparable to the price of the Age of Fear games.
Since his future business strategy of the game is to supply it with additional adventure modules (three of his own making, and then a bunch of fan-made ones following the revenue share model), a lower cost of entry means a larger potential customer base for the DLC modules.
