Graphic whore-ism is not an absolute term but a relative one. It doesn't mean "the latest tech on the market" but "caring about graphics more than a given game or genre needs" - according to person who uses the term.

Having said that i don't think that the non-token graphic in KotC2 is necessary bad. I like some of it. And it certainly can become better with time. Hopefully.

Edit: Removed the part where i was being a dick. But not the dick itself.

Also the tokens gave it a pretty unique look, the new isometric graphics are sweet, don’t get me wrong, but the tokens were definitely interesting.

Don't get me wrong, the token artwork is quite good but I am fairly certain those are simply the public domain tokens available for the D&D SRD. I say this because I've run plenty of Roll20 games and I've seen some of that exact artwork before. Not that it is bad, but I think much of it was already out there in the public space. Plus, the reason Roll20 leans so heavily into tokens is because of limitations, it is browser based so I forgive the flatness for that reason. But in a singleplayer cRPG I can't fathom using them because that limitation is removed, so like many others here I'm quite pleased they went for isometric 'Gold Box' style. The toggle between the two is nice because it keeps everyone happy.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Lord above, I forgot what a struggle the second fight with Pizarra can be (the one just after the staircase near the Crones). Just got killed when the last wave of reinforcements arrived after having mullered everyone else.

Fun fight though. Last time I did it I had a paladin (a certain NPC) who summoned the deity avatar which made the fight a lot easier.

Tokens are disgusting, fucking autists. The isometric art style is also pretty crap, first game art style was way better. But ye whatever, game is solid, although he should fix the initiative heavy leaning mechanics.

p.s. This game is the future!
Yeah, if future modules made by Pierre and modders keep providing content.

Sadly it seems the game is not booming in Steam. Hopefully it will later become a cult classic of some sort.

I knew it wouldn't pick up as soon as I saw that price tag.

Nobody except people like us, who already know exactly what to expect from the game and were hyped beforehand, will buy it. Someone who stumbles upon it during a Steam catalogue deep dive will see the price, look at the screenshots, conclude that there's other similar games at half the price, and snatch up those instead.

I had almost all the enemies nauseated from stinking clouds, and got off two free ones due to high initiative on my wizard (she started first in the round) and a surprise round.

what is the impact on general XP and progression from getting extra companions earlier on? is it generally worth it?
And also, if I bench them, do they stop sucking XP? Thanks

Good God, what is that voice acting? It's not even bad in a good way, like the thing you can point and laugh at... it's just...
Don't @ me for caring about voice acting in an indie game played by 30 people on the planet, it's just so aggravating I had to point it out.

Tokens are weird because they're round for no reason and they only show the head or upper body of the monster. Meanwhile the isometric seems confusing when it comes to positioning and it's firmly in the uncanny valley of trying to look like the late 1990s but failing at it.

Rectangular / square tiles showing the whole monster like in Low Magic Age would have had all the advantages of tokens, while still allowing it to at least look like a video game in the screenshots.

Speaking of Low Magic Age, I think they started off using some kind of community asset pack too and the portraits are still hideous but by focusing their efforts on improving their tiles they eventually got the game to look unobjectionable, like a browser game or something.

That dude at least bought his assets off the guy that did the art for Tales of Maj'Eyal.

Having to reload during a tutorial is a hell of a thing though.

Damn, I feel kinda bad now. All the best to the missus.

I wonder if character model is also after her

Honestly if tokens vs. sprites is a big hang up for you, you’re probably not going to enjoy the game at all.

Also, the tokens are actually very charming and they frame the game in a little bit different way. At least for me, I sometimes get bothered when sprites are not updated with my new armor set or weapon, but I didn’t care at all with the tokens because they were merely placeholders. The focus was entirely on the gameplay, which is quite good, even if it is soul-suckingly difficult.

Tokens are for boomer 60+ year old Wargamers who use to setup Axis & Allies boardgames in the late 70s that took 2 hours just to setup the map. Sprites are for newfags from the 80s and early 90s who grew up on Gold Box Games, either way your old AF, take your pick.
nobody (maybe millennials, but they don't count) considers axis and allies a wargame or played it in the 70's

1981--- close enough. Old as fuck either way. And if it isn't the classic grognard "beer & pretzels" wargame on a board then WTF is it? Say something that doesn't make you seem even more pedantic and m'lady fedora tipping than you already did, I beg of you.
monopoly-- monopoly is the classic grognord "beer and Pretzels" wargame.
