Finally started my playthrough, is this a decent party comp? Half-Giant(Cloudtop) Fighter, Human(Half-Elf) Mage-Knight, Human(Argossian) Champion, Elf Wizard, Human(Argossian) Druid, Human(Southerner) Bard. Only in Finchbury so far, but have had no problems. Is the lack of a psion gonna hurt me?

I had 2 million gold before I decided what to do with it. Now I'm broke but my team kick ass. My Bard went from missing 99% of attacks, to landing crits for 90.

Anyone know about Queen Sattram?
My first attempt she appeared and killed half my team with a single spell and later she summoned another huge ally. My second attempt I killed the first batch of spiders and she didn't appear. Is that a bug or an alternative solution? You gotta do it fast or something? I tried spawning her again but she always beats me. I was curious what loot she has :D

Pretty sure it's not supposed to work like that, may have been a bug. When you kill the last of the first batch of spiders, she spawns instantly. If you haven't killed the first batch of spiders after a full round or two (not sure of the exact number) then she spawns anyway. So you may want to keep at least one spider alive for a little longer, to get your guys in proper position etc. But either way, she's supposed to spawn. Also, there's a 3rd phase to that fight as well, after you kill her.

What difficulty. Yes, it matters for the answer. If on "Challenging" (normal) then you might be ok. Might being the operative word.
If on "Archmage" (very hard) then very probably not unless you are a genius of d&d tactics, and i don't mean it like one of steam reviewers "i have the manual for 3.5 memorised". You have only 2 pure casters and 3 hybrids. That's very few and too much respectively.
As a minor issue, you have 4 humans out of 6 characters. This isn't good, there are occasions where racial skills play a role, can give additional loot or prevent ambushes. There are at least 3 good races+subraces for each profession to choose from. But this is minor, want humans, play humans.

I am still relatively early in game so take this advice with a grain of salt. I would consider:
Adding a Psionicist - they are great and how they cast "spells" is versatile. They also have have early game more spells points equivalents to spell slots.
If not then a Cleric or another Wizard - of different colour for a change.
Adding a second pure melee. I have a gladiator but people says that Samurais and Death Knights are good too.
Fighter, Samurai, Psionicist, Druid, Wizard, Bard for example.
But as i said, on normal you "might" be ok and my knowledge is limited anyway.

I just plundered the Moon Crypt and up till now the game is exceptional, as expected. Both the battles and the riddles, I trully love them.
What really pisses me off is the fucking crashes.

Is crafting "mandatory" in this game or can I just go by with stuff that I find as I explore?
Playing on normal with gold for level-up off.

Thanks I'll try again, I use death magic which probably killed them too fast. That big spider is a nightmare.

I'm running a Gladiator, Samurai, DK setup right now (other three being Wizard, Cleric, Psion plus this game's Jaheira-Khaleed combo of Druid-Storm Warrior NPCs), and the DK just seems awful, comparatively. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but his life steal is ass, smite is ass, and the only good thing he gets is the aura. But while it's a nice aura, I'm not sure it alone makes up for all the extra feats something like a pure Fighter would get.

Similar case here - I've got DK and rogue. I knew that rogue would be lame and weak but I cannot imagine my fantasy party without rogue/thief. And it sucks indeed. But DK has been a true disappointment, almost as bad as rogue. I am at level 7-8 and used that life steal recently (gave me 6 hp, thx v much pierre) and it was full action. Aura is nice but my gladiator mantis is 3 times better without any aura. I have not noticed any specific interaction for DK yet (multiple for rogue though!). Maybe there's something we're doing wrong?

You can't simply compare a DK with a Gladiator because the presence of a DK, assuming he is well positioned, directly improves every other member of the team.
Additionally you used life steal as a full action? No, that's not how you use it. You need a feat that makes it a free action IIRC and then use it.

I'm not saying that he doesn't suck, maybe he does, but your comparison is, to be very gentle, "flawed" as well.

Nobody's better than a pure fighter at killing things with a sword, that said, either you take other classes because you know what to do with their special skills, you want some diversity or just don't.

DK is one of my favorite class because of the aura of dread, -3 AC - 3 to saving throws is a big deal when it matters the most, aka when fighting powerful foes.
If you specialize your casters to make the most of it, it makes a huge difference.

As for the rest, you need to spend a couple of feats on his special abilities to make the DK worth it and also build him right.
Conviction requires an INT bonus and Smite requires CHA bonus.
Smite is only useful when you need some extra THC or if you use a skewer weapon.

Life steal, I don't use it much, as Serus said, it requires 1 feat at least to make it a free action.

Some DK builds:

Race STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA
Hu. (M) 18 - 8 - 14 - 16 - 8 - 15
Hu. (M. North.) 20 6 14 16 8 13
Centaur (F. Arb.) 18 6 14 14 8 15
Drake and Dwarf males works as well, even Half-Giant.

With 1 Attribute point every 4 levels, you can spend 4 in STR and 1 in CHA.

Of course, you could do something different with a bit more of DEX or CON and remove some CHA points if you don't plan to use feats on smite or remove some INT points.
Or even go with 10 CON and go full CHA or with a lesser DEX penalty.

Augury of Chaos gives you a lot of magic items. Realistically you probably only want to craft a very small handful of superitems, because those things get expensive even on "no gold to level-up"

Crafting definitely isn't necessary and I doubt there is anything you can craft that isn't covered by loot other than really specific weapon types.

Pierre has no specific weapon focus feats, so it isn't like Pathfinder where you need to specialise on one weapon type.

But on the other hand you do not know when and where the game will give you an item you want or need. What you say seems reasonable but on subsequent plays. On the first time, less so.

Don't get me wrong, i'm a hoarder, i buy very little but i'm not sure it is the best method. And honestly i doubt it is one if you want to try ironman or "least reloads possible". The thing is, you need those items "now" as opposed to "then" - a hope of better items - if you'll live.

If you want specific optimized weapons, you have to craft them, it makes all the difference between second class fighters and absolute monsters.
There's even some artifact weapons you can just modify one bit to unleash real power.

And the armors...
There's some good ones but it's million years away from covering all possibilities and builds.

There are a lot of items you get from loot which can be enchanted to make them badass. Even if it already has an enchantment on it you can re-enchant it. The same goes for armor, I bought all my belts and rings and bracers and stuff, but I looted some decent chest items and they can be enchanted to be even better.

For me the hardest part of this game has been knowing which direction to go, which fights to do first. I tried doing some of the toughest fights early in the game and it was just miss miss miss, dead dead dead. I figured out different routes to easier battles, earned a few levels and a lot of gear, and then went back and whooped ass. A lot of time spent on battles that didn't count though because I ended up reloading and going a different route. I think the second time I play this game it will be 100x easier.

It's still V.1.29 on the site. I'm just about to write him to send me a steam key as a bonus for buying the damn game on kickstarter, participating in online discussions, reporting a bug, up voting yt videos and talking to my gf about the game for much longer than she likes.

Just FYI, there is a £7 upcharge for backer changes.

Does it mean I'd have to pay 28£ + 7£ for the steam key?

The regional price on GOG is 36.22$. So fuck no. I think I prefer to write the @ and appeal to his sense of responsibility.

He will also take into account as much as you’ve paid, so if you paid the £20 tier, it would be £28 + £7 = £35 - £20 = £15

Wiz thoughts:
I am getting a lot of success with dismissal spells and death spells. They don't always work but when they do they can one shot huge enemies even bosses. I was pretty disappointed with the Wiz until I found that. He also got Shape-able Prismatic Spray which is a one spell battle changer.

Was there a way to auto-cast long rest buffs like Mage Armor after rest? I seem to recall one but I can't find it anymore.

yes, go to the character sheet, then the Spec tab. all of the Auto Cast options are under there.
