I wouldn't call it free. Path of Exile's stash tabs are effectively the box price and they can easily exceed the cost of a game like Last Epoch, Grim Dawn with all the expansions or even Diablo 4. Aside from paid stash tabs you're still left with $42 armor sets and paid consumable skin transfers (transmog).PoE is free and has shit tons of content. I thought the selling point of Last Epoch was something in the line of 'arpg made by the players, for the players'. Having microtransactions blurs the line between the competition, and competition is pretty strong right now (namely Diablo 4 and the looming PoE 2).They're competing directly with Path of Exile.
This armor set for example is $42, it's one of the cheaper ones.
Darkwood cloak back attachment: $17.50
Darkwood Raise Spectre skill skin: $11.50
Darkwood footprint effect: $7.50
Darkwood portal: $15
Darkwood Weapon skin: $13
Darkwood Weapon effect: $12.50
Another $61 in Darkwood skill effect skins if you want them
Total: $180; sale might bring it down $20-$30 but that's still $150 for one complete set.
If Last Epoch can sustainably finance its leagues while undercutting GGG's god awful MTX pricing, it'll be pretty competitive after a couple good leagues. Path of Exile 2 would have to slow the hell down at endgame and lower their pricing by 60-70% across the board for me to even consider playing it.
