Best trailer so far

:takemyjewgold:

Surely you're joking... like Morgoth said this is what happens when Konami frames the material instead of Kojima.

Other options that would be realistically (and within the game's rules) achievable, such as going over some rocks near the edge of the island to get to a prison camp area, are simply not enabled. The only ways to get in and out of the camp are two paths conveniently surrounded by unclimbable rocks.

Are you referring to what this player does immediately at the start?

Because he does that. If you aren't, then I'm not positive which rocks you're referring to. Maybe a video to showcase your point? Either way, if you genuinely think that Camp Omega isn't a sprawling open area, then I'm not too sure what to tell you. Btw - go and play Crysis again someday. It's really not as good as you remember.

I can go through the rest of your criticisms if you want, but I have a feeling you'll just disregard everything and respond with emotions.

I play Crysis regularly. It is a fantastic game.

I'm not talking about the climbable ledge right at the start of the level. I know that that one exists. My problem with it is that there aren't many more opportunities like that, despite the island surrounded by rocks. I was complaining that once you get to the prison area where you rescue Chico and call the helicopter, your only two options are two corridors surrounded by unclimbable rocks and maybe fences that conveniently hide the rest of the level.

Turns out the GPU I bought yesterday came with a code for this game, which is something I didn't know when I made the purchase. What a pleasant surprise, I guess I'll be playing it at launch after all.

Is it advicable to have played Ground Zeroes before getting Phantom Pain? It is currently free for me, why I'm asking.

It is not mandatory, but if it is free, than play it. It's just 2 hours, and it is a good build up for the main game. If you don't want to do it, just watch the cinematics on youtube, so you know the story.

You actually will get some bonuses in TPP if you've played GZ. My understanding is optional prisoners you extract will show up in your Mother Base, and it's rumored you can actually return to Camp Omega for a new mission in TPP with all of your new weapons and tools.

Also it's really fun.
One can immediately see that this shitty trailer wasn't directed by Kojima-sensei.
Yeah. It's funny that, for all Kojima's obsession with Western action films and Hollywood, the most Hollywood-esque trailer is the one he wasn't involved in.

To be fair, Kojima seems to be obsessed with the older eras of film, rather than the newshit that trailer resembles.

The only part of the MGS franchise that really engaged me was the part in MGS2 where everything fell apart and you realised the entire thing was a meta-joke. The speech by the Patriot AI was the only part of the entire series which actually stimulated me and make me think.

What exactly is the appeal of MGS at anything other than the gameplay? The story makes absolutely no sense and I find it impossible to suspend my disbelief for it. The dialogue is pretty horrid, and the characters certainly are all ridiculous. I'm looking forward to the Phantom Pain because Kojima and co have clearly sunk a lot of work into making the gameplay fun, but other than that I don't see the merits behind getting hyped for a story which is as sensible and coherent as a five year old's finger painting.

The endgame of MGS3 (post Volgin) was my favorite MGS moment story wise. Gameplay wise: tanker, prison break from Groznigrad. MGS4 really let me down on all fronts.

17:30 minutes for base invasion gameplay. Looks fucking incredible.
That looked really interesting. I liked what I saw of the level design and the gadgets, and the prospect of playing against a human player who will actually search you out really sounded like a breath of fresh air. ...Then it got to the metagame MMO stuff, ugh...

Does anybody know if the game will just allow a couple of players to go start up a game, choose their loadouts, and just god damn play a match in this gamemode? Would the engine be moddable enough to allow that if it hasn't been promised?

That's where I really fell in love with the series.

I have to disagree with the rest of your statement though, since I really enjoyed parts like:

And yeah - the gameplay of these titles is far better than the detractors give them credit for. There's always a huge number of ways to go through every room. People who dislike 2's gameplay should really play it on Hard mode and forego using the tranq gun. All of the games are highly replayable, and if you skip through the codecs/cutscenes, they're just the right length that it feels satisfying to replay, but not a tremendous time investment.

All of this said - perhaps one of the flaws of MGS is that the game really shines when you seek out those greater challenges. Usually by foregoing the tranq gun while playing on certain difficulties. MGSV looks like it'll be the same, where a no-reflex run on the hardest difficulty will be genuinely challenging and stimulating.

Originally Kojima showed off how versatile and powerful the FOX engine was by having designers modify levels in real time. It was heavily implied that players would be able to make their own levels and stuff. Unfortunately, with the whole debacle of Konami throwing a temper tantrum that a AAA game has a AAA budget, I wouldn't be surprised if all that got scrapped.

We'll see if people figure something out though.

Looking at the extra missions in Ground Zeroes, I can sorta see that they might have gone with the make your own missions angle, if they had been given the resources.

But since Konami hates success and good things and wants to focus on Pachinko machines that combine Castlevania and fanservice (the half-naked women kind, kinda strange when you look at the series).

yfw this entire konami thing (in particular the working conditions at the company) was just a ruse to reinforce the 1984 references in TPP that Kojima mentioned in a few interviews (he's claimed the story is "heavily inspired by 1984")

Alternatively, yfw the story is actually a jab at Konami and they were too stupid to realize it.

Yeah I can see the 1984 inspiration in the levitating, telekinetic kid; the fire throwing, levitating demon; the 15,000 explosions; big boss growing a demon horn out of his forehead; the other 15,000 explosions. Really thoughtful stuff.

To be fair, Kojima seems to be obsessed with the older eras of film, rather than the newshit that trailer resembles.

This industry needs more proud Kojimas and fewer retarded SJW-academics.

Snake's deep and multilayered character compellingly contextualises the Metal Gear experience, making it truly memorable.
