Holy shit, Konami is the first cyberpunk megacorporation of the 21th century.
I went through the Cyberpunk 2020 book, and the descriptions of the companies makes them seem BETTER in comparison.

Though it would all depend on if Konami employs corporate wetwork teams.

Yeah it's a good job we have far more progressive labour practices here in the west and don't treat workers just as poorly if not much worse, phew!

Konamis acting like a bunch of cunts but how divorced from the real world are you when a punch card, fixed lunch breaks and manual labour triggers the fuck out of you? It's just like my dystopian SciFi comics maaaaan, better use my Iphone 6 assembled by an illiterate 10 year old Vietnamese with rickets on 0.0002c per hour to condemn this for Kojima san!
Fuck outta here

Kojima is a faggot hack ripoff artist ala Tarantino.

Also like Tarantino I can't help but enjoy his shitty works.

One thing that always strikes me though, is that why does Big Boss always aims down the site with his patched eye? He can't see anything with that duhh. Noone ever told the animators to put the guns on the other side when aiming?

Big boss is mostly aiming from the shoulder or center of his chest. Being right handed he can most likely approximate his aim with the barrel as well as using reflex memory. Its awkward but usable.

Donna Burke accidentally uploaded a bunch of songs she wasn't supposed to onto youtube. They've been taken down since then.

Notable inclusions: another version of Theme of Love, Quiet's Theme sung by Stefanie, and a new version of SNAKE EATERRRRRRRR sung by Donna.

5 minute ladder climb confirmed.

Huh, MGS V must have had a REALLY big budget, then.

As mentioned a few times in earlier pages, MGSV was reported to be "over 80 million dollars" spent on it as of March. That includes Ground Zeros dev btw. So, for the sake of argument, let's pretend that the budget ends up being 100 million. The game is going to probably sell ~6 million copies judging by the series history (probably more considering this title is going to have extremely approachable controls and strong online features)

Going by the old estimate of $25 profit per copy earned by publishers per disc of a game, TPP will almost certainly clear 150 million dollars of profit. Ground Zeroes sold 788k on consoles alone as of a year ago; presuming they got $15 per copy of profit from that, there's another 12 million earned, and that's not mentioning sales from steam or money earned from licensing it to sony and microsoft for their PS+ and Games With Gold programs.

These numbers are also extremely lowballed because it's not including the fact that publishers earn a much higher percentage from digital copies, nor does it include the collector's editions which have been sold out everywhere. Plus TPP will have micro transactions for the MGO component, and skins/costumes/whatever for single player.

tl;dr - the game is going to make bank unless some kind of disaster strikes. Konami is just buttmad that Kojima made them wait a year so it'd be as good as possible; they think he doesn't care about the profitability because he's on a fixed salary. Meanwhile they see shitty mobile games that cost 1 million to develop turn over much higher profit margins and go apeshit.

But the game will not be sold at $60 forever.

Sure, but the lion's share of reported sales of video games are typically made at full price (there are obviously exceptions out there). Additionally, digital copies will earn Konami roughly $40 per sale, and more will be earned from the collector's editions that are already sold out. That's also not taking into account that the game has DLC and microtransactions that will bring in even more revenue.

No matter how you try to slice this, the game is going to make a lot of money, much more than the budget; unless a major disaster occurs.

In the 3DS version of Snake Eater, the 3D in first-person stops working after you get your eye shot out, which is insanely cool.

"the game is going to make a lot of money"

Yes, but

"much more than the budget"

I'm not sure about this. Does the $80 millions budget includes marketing?

Good question, you'd have to ask Konami. On the other hand, it's really worth mentioning that 80 mil isn't some kind of staggering budget for a AAA game. GTA V was 137 mil without marketing, 268 with. Max Payne 3 was 105 mil. Modern Warfare 2 blew 200 million on marketing alone. Tomb Raider reboot was 100 mil. The fucking Deadpool game had a total budget of 100 mil.

Hell, MGS4 was 70 mil to make, was certainly profitable, and that was a PS3 Exclusive. I would be flabbergasted if TPP doesn't outstrip MGS4's sales by a wide margin since it's on 5 platforms (and has a much broader appeal than 4). On that note, fucking shenmu from 15 years ago had a total budget of 70 million.

Honestly, past patterns holding, it's pretty clear that MGSV, between GZ and TPP is going to be extremely profitable. Konami is buttblasted that they didn't make an extra 30 million or whatever from Kojima shipping the game out early; despite the fact that they're too stupid to realize that if that extra year nets TPP another 10 points on metacritic that's more than worth the money.

Meanwhile:

Between that thing and the Castlevania pachinko machine it's visible for even the blind that Konami's losing its goddamn mind.

Get it before it vanishes. Quiet's theme is damn good. Not only is Stefanie Joosten made out of sex and win. But she can sing to.
