I'm currently in the process of attempting to finish Wizardry 8 for the first time but it has just become sooo tedious near the end. Should I get this game instead? I've never played any Might and Magic nor any blobber before Grimrock and Wizardry 8 so I'm curious if it won't ruin my growing appreciation for these games.
M&MX is... less tedious I guess, since it's a lot easier. Near endgame it's kinda popamole, even. But it's a fun game.
But I'd rate Wiz8 a lot higher in almost every aspect.
Ok... I mean, I can see how Wizardry is absolutely awesome mechanics-wise, I can't get enough of the turn based combat...or so I thought, but the random encounters coupled with shit journal and horrible view distance make for so slow backtracking and quest solving that I'm sick of it. (IS THERE A MOD TO INCREASE THE VIEW DISTANCE?)

MM - I don't like the new UBISOFT setting, it lacks style and the retarded humor of the earlier HoMaM, is it the same with MM? Also the art direction looks kinda shitty.

It's a good game for fuckssakes, get it already. It's got an almost unanimous Codex Seal Of Approval - how many post-1998 games can claim to have that?

Still lots of fun, level 21 and explored most of the map, got several relics.

For the life of me I can't find the Air room in the Elemental Forge. I have the shard, I heard that it's somewhere in Level 1, but all I see is the Earth and Dark areas, and a random pressure plate in the corner of a study that doesn't seem to do anything or have any friends. Halp?

Use X-Ray spell or equivalent.

Place a portal on T-reng base

Generally when you play game second time, you'd see it doesn't have that much backtracking you thought. You walk Arnika > Arnika Road > Trinston > Marten's Bluff, and after that you probably have portal spells avaible.

I was bitching about setting quite a lot, but when playing the game, it did not bother me that much. The intro is boring, but what happens in the intro has little to do with the game. Same goes for most of the lore in the books you find. I think some designers wanted the epic lore in the game, others - wacky one, so the setting is a like a rope getting pulled into both directions.
Sometimes the way they mix new setting with old retarded style made me smile, like Naga Bank with nagas in it talking about banking or Angels manipulating world politics. But it's clear it was hard for them to create a consistent setting and tie narrative to it.

It's level 1 alright, but UP, not down. It's the level you enter after riding the griffin. The pathway right to air, left to light. you need to open doors to there.

It is at 2nd floor, you need to find a secret door and press on pressure plates inside that room. Balcony to air and light rooms will be opened.

I didn't know it had the codex seal of approval, but that could also mean I'll get bored to death halfway through the game. I'll try it out then!

It's actually level 3. You go to the side midway, and you can get to the Air/Light rooms.

There is definitely some derpy humour in MMX, I got several good chuckles during the game. Also, it's not a story-focused game - not by a long shot - but the plot is much better than I expected from a MM game (there are even some twists and surprises). The art style, I think, is somewhat generic but decent enough.

I see - I looked but I must have missed it somehow. Thanks guys.

Crusader is stuck doing not a whole lot as shops keep not spawning swords, I'm stuck on a standard +Dam Silksword. On the other hand, bladedancer has mana steal boots and decent damage daggers and maxed Dagger (just without GM training), meaning hundreds of damage each turn.

MMX is set in Ubisoft's new universe (Ubisoft's requirement) and uses graphic assets from HoMM 5-6 (for consistent look and to save money). You can tell the devs put in a lot of effort to make an enjoyable game, so if you enjoy turn-based combat I think it's worth playing. Be warned that a lot of players have slow performance issues.

Maybe, but know one thing: apparently, respawns in this game only happen after 200 days (can anyone confirm this) and you'd have to be seriously slow to ever see a respawning foe. I took my sweet time and was done after 125 days, so once you clear an area in MMX, it stays cleared, unlike Wiz8.

Wiz8 is the superior game due to a better character system and the hilarious character creator, but MMX is definitely very enjoyable as well and far less grindy than Wiz8.

I had really shit performance with Homam5 and 6 and they look horrible, so I'm expecting this game to run like and look like crap. I hope the gameplay will be worth it.

It's February ffs.

D:OS is coming out, W2 is coming out, Sawyer recently stated Eternity is probably coming out this year too, not mentioning other games that aren't high-profile and can actually turn out pretty awesome (Dead State?, Legends of Eisenwald?).

Dead State isn't high profile? The Early Access is selling better than MMX ever did.

MMX was sold via uplay too, i got a cheaper copy that way . Of course none can see my achievements and how good i am at the game but that was a sacrifice i was ready to make. Hard to tell if dead state is selling more, i am already seeing three threads asking for refunds . In all fairness the same did not happen when MMX was released, just have to look on page 30 on steam forums.

The cheapest copies of MMX were sold as Steam gifts, with prices falling to $15 on launch day.

And I'm extrapolating Dead State's sales numbers based on the Bayesian Average of indie zombie games released within the past year. DS is poised to sell at least 2 millions copies during EA.

I 've never seen it going so low, not on european steam at least. But big discounts on online shops for the uplay only versions.

Well it seems that Radiant Weapon does not give you 100% chance to pass through blocks. And MoH is just an icing on the cake.
What I like about Flawless Assault is that with mana leech you can spam it, constantly dealing tons of damage in unison with your second melee guy, while your spellcasters can do whatever they want. We're talking at least ~500 damage per attack (I used two-handed sword) and/or 100% chance to stun with Master Maces, can Radiant Weapon do that? So Flawless Assault > DPS Guy hits > casters do their own stuff..

Just completed Adventurer run, time to make new party. Probably, on Warrior.

So, Mercenary or Defender? Mercenary's specials are sexier, but Defender gets Axe GM.

Also, should I avoid Membrane as a bug/exploit?

Also, can you (or somebody else) comment on choice of Druid/Shaman/Runepriest for second caster? Druids' special looks like it would synergy wonderfully with mercenary's.

Any thoughts about GM Focus for meleeing mages? Are focus attack automatically hit? Do they scale off Might? Are they doing noticeable damage?
