M&M fundamentals would work fine on tablets, or even fucking phones, it has an incredibly small # of buttons and a low amount of meaningful shit going on in the UI, and the tone is light as a feather. I have never been "immersed" in M&M - it's a completely gamey game. The shit that would kill this is making it a microtransaction machine.

This is a very good point! The M&M games aren't exactly complex mechanics-wise and would work on tablets and mobiles. If they go that route, though, I'm not sure they can resist the song of the microtransaction siren.

I'm not sure how a microt shop would work, cosmetic changes to... portraits? Or buy new SUPA equipment?

Most likely it will be a DLC fest than a microt fest.

Although I did like Grimrock, besides the RT jiving around monsters in circles, it had decent puzzles and somewhat ok character progression.

So, looking forward to this until they announce stupid new age gaming shit.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
It'll be terrible.
This is what we should believe, to save us disappointment. And if not... well...

I think the end of the world is coming.

:retarded:

Goddammit.
Am I browsing Codex in my dream again?
Party based, turn based, grid based M&M game made by one of the Big Bads??

Even Prosper's dream can not be this absurd.
Let me back to my usual dream where every new game is shit!

The "NEW RULES" part of the trailer is a bit worrisome, but still who would have thought any of this possible in the beginning of 2012? Truly we live in interesting times.

And YAY for the grid.

Given how allergic AAA developers tend to be to a whiff of anything that doesn't scream "next-gen" and "modern", just putting the words OLD SCHOOL in a launch trailer is kind of weird. I guess Kickstarter alerted publishers to the existence of unexploited moneypits? That's the only way I can rationalize this, otherwise I just have to assume...

Hold on. This makes perfect sense. 2013. Torment 2. Project Eternity. Wasteland 2. All of this stuff makes no rational sense, but then we DID TURN ON THE LARGE HADRON COLLIDER. Clearly CERN opened a gateway to another dimension where turn-based is mainstream and real-time corridor shooters are sneered at as a nerdy niche.

Incidentally, as a bit of a reality check:

All the monster models in that video are exactly the same as unit models in Heroes 6. I don't mean that in the sense of "adapted from", I mean exactly cloned, to the point that it looks like a zoomed in, first-person view of a Heroes 6 map. That + random european shovelware developer doesn't particularly bode well. Still, I am so starved for an old-school blobber on the PC (how sad is it that consoles have had better blobbers for the last decade?) that I wouldn't even mind a shovelware blobber with Heroes 6 models if it just got basic gameplay right.

MM6-8 also reused assets from HOMM3. I don't find that to be such a big of a deal. In fact if it means saving some money in order to reallocate them some-place else in the project then I'm all for it.

That doesn't look like Heroes of Might and Magic 6, though.

Less money wasted on graphics = more money used on mechanics, reactivity and making the world bigger.

A Codex interview from the devs on this with probing questions to figure out if they get M&M fundamentals would be extremely great, nudge nudge

What does "grid based" actually mean?

In this case, that the movement during exploration uses a bi-dimensional grid instead of free movement. Like in older M&M games.
Which system, I might add, sucks! I never understood what's the appeal of grid based movement. I can tolerate it, Grimrock is awesome as it is, but if I had to choose, I would choose free movement, and only using grids during battles.

Well, it may help mapping dungeons, although I doubt that M&M X won't have an all-seeing automap.
