Be there or be square, this time, dude.

:rpgcodex:
I dunno, it's so close to release at that point it would be better going in blind. I'll probly skip it. I'm really vibing with Rise right now so the wait isn't painful anymore.

A typical meh interview. He mentions how they want the monsters to be more flexible and that they had to do prototyping, but does not give any deeper insight on the actual processing of making these monsters.

He did say it though.
Unlike World monsters now can form packs, moreover they got much more free hand to design monsters compared to World which mostly featured staples of MH + some new but very conservative designs.

My only concern for Wilds is that it seems to be Switch2 game as game looks in some places worse than World. On other hand RE engine has pathtracing mode that can be turned on at will even if developers will not deliver it in game. (You can enable it in DD2)

Isn't Wilds MH7? World would be 5 and Rise would be 6?

Wilds is 6 mainline game.

Monster Hunter (PS2)
Monster Hunter Dos (PS2) - game world has seasons
Monster Hunter Tri (Wii) - underwater combat
Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) - vertical gameplay
Monster Hunter World - overhaul of environments, ecology stuff.
Monster Hunter Wilds - monsters roam in packs/groups ?? / massive environment changes per hunt

Freedom, Freedom Unite, Rise, Generations etc. are sidegames usually portables.

In general Capcom uses mainlines to deliver focused vision while sidegames is where they experiment or go bonkers sometimes with content like Generations.

Ah cool. Thanks for the clarification.

There's no way in hell they're going to get this behemoth to run on Switch 2, or any future Nintendo machine for that matter.

Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) - vertical gameplay

It's worth mentioning that the climate-change mechanic coming in Wilds seems directly inspired by the season system in Dos. Hot, Cold, and Breeding seasons are directly analogous to the Fallow, Inclemency (basically the region-specific natural disaster), and Plenty in the new environments. So as usual, each mainline game stands directly on the shoulders of what came before it.

I find it interesting that you don't consider Rise to be a "true" mainline game.

The only reason it makes sense for Wilds to look worse than World is that they need to keep minimum spec in check. + there were rumors like a year ago that they target Switch 2 as well as powerful phones.

DD2 was nightmare for PC rigs true but that was mostly due to how game open world worked and how it was super CPU intensive. Switch2 is rumored to have pretty nice spec for Nintendo with decent CPU and mediacore GPU that will be helped with DLSS/FG and it won't be running high res to begin with.
Either way, Switch 2 announcement from rumors in next week. By that time we will know if it will be launch title or not.

Because it's not. Literally. MH Wilds is officially 6th mainline game.
Also Rise sucks. Only MH game i never finished. Base game was a bit interesting but once master rank expansion hit i just couldn't deal with those shitty maps and overall downgrade of mechanics from World. Everything I love about Worlds like it's ecosystem, intricate maps, environmental interactions, monsters responding to environments was gone in Rise. Plus wirebugs completely changed gameplay into something i didn't like.

I dig Rise now. That took some work. I basically had to put effort towards enjoying it which is a big problem. But it did pay off finally. If it wasn't for Wilds coming out in a month I probably never would have bothered with it.

Not really digging the near monochromatic look of the environments. Like they are going for a modern cinema aesthetic, which I don't care for.

That's just the Oilwell Basin. Have you seen the other locales?

They use a lot of color correction/post-processing effects to sell the Seasons system. So what you might be seeing is the colors looking drained in the Fallow, like here:

Nu Udra (Oilwell Basin Octopus) Full Hunt...

Personally I'm skipping this one, I don't want any further spoilers. It's such an unusual design for the series (we haven't seen an octopod-like creature since MH2) that I want to go into it completely blind. Apparently it can regenerate lost limbs and change areas by slipping through impossibly small gaps in the terrain. Beyond stoked to see this freak's gear.

...and Final Preview (Trigger warning: Woman)

There are a lot of indians in this game.

They should release the character creator early like they did for DD2. That shit was brilliant. I wish all games would do that.
